[Flexradio] Audio Levels from Sound Card

2007-01-19 Thread daves

This is something which I've been meaning to ask for a long time now,
and kinda keep forgetting to do so
When running the Audio Test in the Test Menu, I find that one channel
is louder than the other
I wonder if this is a sound card issue, or if there is some way of
equalising the audio levels in the left and right channels
I've looked in the Delta 44 setup, and don't seem to see an obvious way
that this can be done
Perhaps left and right audio levels equalisation could be some how
programmed in PowerSDR ?
Any thoughts on this one

Re: [Flexradio] Audio Levels from Sound Card

2007-01-19 Thread Ken N9VV
Dave, I am not sure about any adjustment, but there is an excellent
display of the ADC-L dBFS and ADC-R dBFS values in the Rx Meter at
the top right of the PowerSDR Console display. Check those levels and
you will find that they are +/- 1db of each other. Perhaps the Audio
Test is giving you a difference in level, but that the actual I and Q
signals (ADC-L and ADC-R) are properly balanced.

As far as I know, the output levels should be the same. Check the mixer
settings on the Delta Control Panel and you may want to check your
cables as well. It could be in your speakers too.

Note that the ADC L and ADC R values measure the input.

[Flexradio] Linux SDR TeamSpeak questions

2007-01-19 Thread Roger Rehr
Hi, All, I sent this to the linux-dttsp list and then realized that not
everyone who was present for the EXCELLENT TeamSpeak last night is
necessarily subscribed to the linux-dttsp list.

I apologize for the redundancy for those who are subscribed to both lists.

For those who asked me about [1] Linux SDR-1000 hardware control and
[2] BeBob [FreeBob] on the TeamSpeak session last night [great session,
guys...Thanks!] I note the following:

1. My dttsp webpage has information on using HamLib to control the
SDR-1000. I am listening to the SDR-1000 as I type this, using HamLib
to set the frequency and Preamp and attenuator levels. It works fine
and the steps to using it are detailed at:
http://www.nitehawk.com/w3sz/dttspw3sz.htm , item 16. Exact URL is:
http://www.nitehawk.com/w3sz/dttspw3sz.htm#16

I have not tried to control transmit yet with HamLib. I haven't played
with Frank and Bob's code since Thanksgiving. At that time it was not
functioning properly for me, and I never heard about any subsequent
updates. So I have stayed with HamLib as it works nicely with no need
for 'fiddling'.

2. Last October I got my Firebox working under Linux with the SDR-1000
and SDR-Shell, gbeppe, etc by using BeBob variant FreeBob. This was
not a simple task due to the fact that Ubuntu uses its own versions of
many Linux Packages, and these versions did not satisfy the
dependencies of other packages needed to run FreeBob. As of last
October there were inkings of a version of jack that would contain
FreeBob capability out of the box. I haven't looked into this here
since I have been busy with work, and don't know what if anything has
transpired in this regard. So my somewhat arduous 'formula' may be
very much out of date at this point. But it worked for me, and I am
listening to the SDR-1000 using SDR-Shell via the Firebox as I type
this. My info is again on my webpage at:

http://www.nitehawk.com/w3sz/dttspw3sz.htm , item 15. Exact URL is:
http://www.nitehawk.com/w3sz/dttspw3sz.htm#15

Hope that helps!

73,

W3SZ

Re: [Flexradio] What does Vista Really Mean?

2007-01-19 Thread Jim Lux
At 08:15 AM 1/18/2007, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
A Wall Street Journal reporter with (as far as I know) a reasonably level
headed reputation has weighed in on Vista:

I particularly note that he calls out that Vista will require a
substantial PC upgrade, at least if you using its newer features.

I would expect that the vast majority of current XP users won't
upgrade on the same computer to Vista. Rather, they'll just happen
to buy a new computer with Vista already installed on it, and given
the gradual increase in performance over time, the relative demands
of Vista on a new machine in 2007 will similar to the demands of XP
on a new machine back in 2003.

As to what kind of horsepower would be needed to run PowerSDR under
Vista, compared to running it under XP, I have no idea. As the
first few Vista machines come out, I suspect someone will try it and see...

[Flexradio] Help with Power Amp Calibration

2007-01-19 Thread Doug McCann VA3CR
I just purchased my unit and it was delivered Friday.

Serial # 0646-0679

When running the test the following happened:

Test Run 1:

160 Metres tried 8 times and stopped.

Message: Calculated gain is invalid...

I checked all the connections and settings which looked OK

I rebooted PC and Turned off the SDR-1000

I turned off the Edirol FA-66

Test Run 2:

Now it works OK until 15 Meter Ext/Adv SSB

Indicator shows 70%

Message: Calculated gain is invalid...

Test Run 3:

Tried again without reboot and

160 Metres tried 8 times and stopped.

Message: Calculated gain is invalid...

Test Run 4:

Now it works OK until 15 Meter Ext/Adv SSB

Indicator shows 70%

Message: Calculated gain is invalid...

Every test SWR on external meter is showing 1.1:1

Power out on external meter is varying with tests but never exceeding 100
watts

Re: [Flexradio] Help with Power Amp Calibration

2007-01-19 Thread Mike Naruta
Just taking a guess here Doug, can your power
supply provide 20 to 25 amps of current without
voltage sag? Measure the voltage at the SDR-1000
terminals.
