Re: [Flexradio] No power out

2010-02-15 Thread Dudley Hurry

Lee,

You need to give some details as to what you are running besides just a
Flex 5000.

OS? SP?
What kind of computer, (dual core, AMD?)
Motherboard or brand

PowerSDR version
Firmware version
FireWire version
AND what mode are you trying and are you using an amp?

Any other details that you would like to share.

nature of personal computing. Things change behind the scenes that we
are not told about. I suspect an automatic update to Windows or
Firefox brought this on.

Experiments have clearly shown that it's easy for my computer to run
low enough on RAM resources to cause PowerSDR to misbehave. Recall
that my computer is equipped with a Pentium Dual Core running at 2.4
GHz with (only) 2 GB RAM and Windows XP Home Edition. If I run Firefox
AND Ham Radio Deluxe (IP Server& Logbook) and an email client. Within
just a few attempts to transmit, I encounter the "no power output
failure." Sometimes the radio will literally lock up and I have to
pull the power supply to reset the box. I've ordered another 2 GB of
RAM but it won't be here for several days.

If I don't run Ham Radio Deluxe, the "no power output" problem occurs
rarely.

That is not the case here. I *NEVER* run any of that stuff, except
occasionally I run fldigi to transfer a message on MARS.

So what could I do to make more memory resources available to
PowerSDR? The obvious first answer is to uninstall or disable any
System Tray items that aren't needed. Any program that loads into
memory to perform a function that isn't really needed had to go.

What else could I do? Surely I should be able to "optimize" Windows XP
to run as lean and mean as possible. I did some research and found an
article at the Microsoft Support site that addresses this objective
specifically.

I tried the Guided Help, but still have the problem

This article is very informative. It provides a link to something
Microsoft calls "Guided Help" which will walk you through the process
of adjusting Windows XP to use less RAM to function. If you don't want
to use the Guided Help executable, the article includes step-by-step
instructions for making the changes yourself. The result is more
memory for PowerSDR and the other apps I want to run. I made the
suggested changes.

So with the removal of a few unnecessary programs and tweaking Windows
XP to run a bit leaner, I am now able to run PowerSDR, Firefox and HRD
without the "no power output" problem at all. Life is good. Of course,
when the RAM upgrade arrives hopefully I can put a few things back the
way they were...more or less.

This is the end of the road for this issue. Hopefully my findings will
be of value to others running similar configurations.

Good luck!

Memory is not the only resource. It is easy to do a memory utilization
analysis you determine if you need more RAM. Adding more of it, probably will
not make a lot of difference since you already have 2 GB and XP can only
effectively use 3 GB. With the programs you described that are running, none
are extensive memory hogs. Adding more memory usually can't hurt unless you
add more than the OS can address.

I would highly recommend that you run DPCLAT and see if there is a direct correlation
between long duration DPCs (in excess of 2000 us) and the "no power output
failure" condition since you can reproduce the failure scenario. I suspect that
there is a direct correlation. If there is, then you have to go on the great hardware
hunt to see which hardware device in the PC is causing the problems. Video, NIC and
chipset drivers are usually the main offenders.

Hi Tim,

I'm a CW Op so have no use for Mic/ALC/MOD monitoring hence I was
interested in the SWR reading.
It's not a problem as I always have an SWR meter inline, I was just
interested to find out how it worked ;)

I am most impressed with the filtering on the F3K, a little
disappointed with the QSK and the poor Auto Notch,
although I've not played with the ANF settings yet as I'm not sure I
fully understand them, more reading required.

I must say that the F3K is much better at pulling out the weak CW
signals than either my FT1000MP or Tentec Omni VI ever were!

Cheers!

Hi Larry,

It's a feature that is only available when the TUN button is depressed!

Cheers!

Re: [Flexradio] Flex3000 No SWR Reading?

2010-02-15 Thread Mike Tatum

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the explanation, it does indeed work as you describe.
It would be more obvious if the SWR selection was only available when
in TUN mode rather than being selectable in any mode.

Cheers!

Mike.

[Flexradio] New SDRDataTransfer Setup Data Avalable

2010-02-15 Thread Ray, K9DUR
Updated setup data for the SDRDataTransfer Utilty is now available. The
preferred way to update the setup data is to use the facility built into the
utility itself. It is now current through PowerSDR v1.18.5 and through SVN
#3537.

This update includes correcting an error in the data which was preventing
SDRDataTransfer from transferring the equalizer settings. Thanks to Bill,
AB4BJ, for letting me know about this problem.

[Flexradio] UCB-DDUTIL transverter control

2010-02-15 Thread Steve Nance
Hi Bob,

Sorry for the delay but just received your message.

Yes, DDUtil will drive the UCB just fine. Below is a link to the docs
describing how to do it. If you are not a DDUtil user I suggest you read the
Design Concept and Setup sections as well.

http://k5fr.com/ddutilwiki/index.php?title=Setup#ExtCtrl_Tab

If this doesn't answer your questions please direct them to me directly or
the DDUtil Yahoo Group. I only receive daily digests from the FlexRadio
reflector.

I am in the process of building one of the K3TUF UCB board kits and I hope
to use it with DDutil to control numerous transverters down the road with my
5K.

I am a bit confused on the setup and would like to corespond with someone
who is running this type of setup with their 5k.

Looking at the old versions of PSDR it looks like you could specify any or
all of the 16 relays with a UCB setup screen but I don't see it in 1.18.3 it
seems that only the transverter setup screen has any UCB info on it and it
is not clear to me what relays would be actuated by these settings.

Also looking for reccomendations on a transfer relay that could be easily
controled by this setup with multiple RF taps, at least 4 and up to 8.

[Flexradio] RX1 Preamp still affects RX2 Panadapter and S-Meter in 1.18.5

2010-02-15 Thread Clay W7CE
According to the release notes for 1.18.4, the effect that the RX1 preamp
has on RX2 should have been fixed, but I still see the problem (PowerSDR
1.18.5, Firmware 1.3.0.8 Firewire 3.5.0.7171). On 20M with RX2 set to RX1
Tap, turning the RX1 preamp on and off affects the RX2 S-Meter and
Panadapter by about 15-30 dB, depending on the state of the RX2 preamp. The
final S-Meter reading seems independent of the RX2 preamp setting. More
importantly, the received noise level on RX2 increases to about S9+10 and S9
signals become unreadable.

Clay W7CE

[Flexradio] new V/U module and second reciever RX2

2010-02-15 Thread bobt
A general question ? I have a vision of chasing DX while at the same time
monitoring the local repeaters with RX2 and the new V/U module. The question
is anyone doing it yet ? is it possible and/or worth while.

Ron and the Group,

I also upgraded from 1.18.3 to 1.18.5 and noticed the same problem. I also
noticed that when changing to a different band that sometimes (not all the
time) I will hear a double click on a relay inside the Flex box. Performance
wise (other than changing frequency and/or band) appears to be the same between
.3 and .5. (I did not load 1.18.4) I went back to 1.18.3, the issues were not
there.

I started with a new database. Equipment SDR1000 with Delta 44, 100 power amp,
XP Pro Ser Pk 3, HP AMD 38000+, 3 Gb memory.
