Re: [Flexradio] Flex 1500 Transverter Operation
Sounds like a bug. I'll submit the behavior listed below as a bug report. -Tim -Original Message- From: flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Eric Watkins Sent: Sunday, January 23, 2011 12:13 AM To: Tom; flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re: [Flexradio] Flex 1500 Transverter Operation I have observed this same operation. As a result I had to just use the PA output on the 1500 for 6M during the contest. If I switched to xvtr/com the power out went to zero. Reboot/restart of SDR was the only cure for me as well. Also using 2.0.16 on 64bit win7. SDR worked just fine on 6M as long as I didn't switch off to the XVTR port. I really need this functionality to work if I'm going to use the SDR to drive the xverter stack. I have been running the Flex-1500 for most of the evening driving an Elecraft 2M transverter. The transverter is being driven through the XVTX/COM for both transmit and receive. I have the key line coming out of the Flex going to the transverter and the transverter keys the amplifier. I switched over to listening on 6M for a little bit to see how it compares with my other radio and when I went back to 2M I tried to call a station. Everything keyed, the PowerSDR software showed modulation, but nothing was coming out of the transverter. I tried stopping and starting the software ... didn't work. Shutdown the software and the radio, brought it back up and everything is working fine now (I did not reboot the computer). Not sure where the output was going to but it wasn't going into the transverter. OS - WinXP SP3, AMD Athlon dual processor 3800, 3G Ram, PowerSDR 2.0.16. At the time, the other software running was N3FJP logging program. Not using any CAT functionality or VAC SW. Results are out at www.k5cm.com . From my limited experience, the K5CM FMTs attract the real experts. Competition is a bit easier in the ARRL events. Another nice showing by the Flex contingent. Re: [Flexradio] Frequency Measuring Test tomorrow
Yes, a nice Flex showing, except for my own 14 Hz error. Recalculated this morning and get only 158 mHz error on the 160 run. NOT my Flex 5000a's fault - must have been the pencil I used (had trouble with them in elementary school, too, IIRC). Connie doesn't give Mulligans, darn it. Re: [Flexradio] Frequency Measuring Test tomorrow
I used only the Flex-5000 and its scope no fancy outboard frequency standard or software. Several signals seemed quite spongy probably due to Doppler. I had little confidence in any of my readings, which was quite frustrating. I didn't get home from work in time for the two 20 meter runs. On those I submitted, my error was +0.188, -0.318, and -0.328 Hz . I didn't submit a 40 meter report because W6OQI's signals were at noise level here and I didn't believe the 7057000.0 I was getting. Turned out that was about right. Once again the Flex has proven to be well within specs on every frequency. One new thing I did this time to improve my results was to calibrate the 5000 with the nearest WWV/CHU transmission between band changes. Calibration takes just a few seconds. [Flexradio] Another use for RX1 loop
Probably been done before, but it just dawned on me. Why not tap into the RX1 loop to run an external receiver? Have been playing around with the VHF contest this morning with my Clegg Interceptor in parallel with the 5K on 6 meters. Fed the output of the preamp into a MCL splitter and off to each radio. This will be a good setup for monitoring for 6M AM activity while retaining the full use of the 5K and RX2. Haven't tried it yet, but I could probably also feed the IF out of the Interceptor into the Flex. Old, meets new, fun, fun! 73, Robert KR7O/YB2ARO, DM07ba/OI52ee (ex. [Flexradio] MEA CULPA - Misunderstanding FlexRadio WBIR
I am sorry. I have publicly made unfounded accusations against Flex Radio. I now know that I was wrong. Flex Radio has an amazing algorithm Wide Band Image Rejection that finds the appropriate complex coefficients for image cancellation very fast. When testing the filters in SDR softwares I misinterpreted an anomality in PowerSDR beta software. I could have reported the finding as a problem without making any statement at all about why the phenomenon exists. At the time I actually did not know. Particularly I should not have made any accusations for bad behaviour of any kind. It would have been more appropriate to report privately to Flex Radio that I have found an issue and ask how they would explain it. For details, look here: http://sm5bsz.com/lir/sim2/sim2.htm I am sorry I was not clever enough to understand that a notch could be created by a stability problem. 73 Leif / SM5BSZ ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/

The only contests I like are the FMTs. Unfortunately I was busy moving my parents into assisted living last week. No opportunity to get ready for the FMT or time to actually participate. sigh I didn't get home until it was all over. -- Brian Lloyd, WB6RQN/J79BPL 3191 Western Dr. Cameron Park, CA 95682 br...@lloyd.com +1.767.617.1365 (Dominica) +1.931.492.6776 (USA) (+1.931.4.WB6RQN) ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/

Its one thing to see an anomaly and report it as defective (even without privately communicating to Flex) but to make charges of unethical behavior because of an observed defect is just over the top. You gave delight to competitors (who happily sent links of your first report to their mailing lists) and really discredited the good work you are trying to do. It will take a while before one could read your future results without wondering your own bias in testing. Re: [Flexradio] Flex 1500 Transverter Operation
Tim, Thanks for the quick reply. I have to say that the performance I saw on 6M has me really wanting to use this as my IF rig for EVERYTHING! The ability to spot adjacent activity in the contest was a huge benefit. I'll be eagerly awaiting this fix. Thanks, Eric kr0ver At 06:04 AM 1/23/2011, Tim Ellison wrote: Sounds like a bug.
