Earlier I mentioned skins close to the Default with buttons that
change color and simple modifications to existing skins. With Ted's
original question in mind I decided to modify the Default skin. A
look at the images in the folder led me to conclude all the skins
ending with -1.png are the buttons indicating activation. As
before I looked in other skins and chose IK3VIG Blue for its full
colored blue activated buttons. I had to do the rest from within
Linux. Someone probably will tell us how to do it in Windows. That
is copy all the files ending with -1.png from IK3VIG Blue to my new
copy of the Default skin.

From within IK3VIG Blue/console (and from memory):

cp *-1.png ../../New\ Default/console

So far, with my 2 minutes of testing it looks like my copy (cp)
transferred all the right image files and I have what Ted was asking
about. That is, the Default skin with buttons that change color.

Re: [Flexradio] PSDR 2.0.22 and NR operation

2011-03-30 Thread John Sweeney
Dave,

I think the NR is far more effective r on this version 2.0.22. Along with
many other items.

If you have audio crackling with the NR, many parameters can effect that.
In addition to the settings of sample rate and buffer size for the firewire,
try reducing the NR Taps in DSP Options. Also, Buffer Size for RX to 2048,
rather than the more aggressive 4096 setting. Reducing the Taps would
be the first choice, but then not quite as aggressive NR.Changing the RX
buffer to 2048 changes your filter skirts. It is all matter of
trade-offs as to what is most important for the current needs and
conditions. I change these parameters all the time on the fly as needed,
just like changing AGC-T or AF or bandwidth for a particular signal.

The improvements for 2.0.22 far outweigh reverting back , in my opinion.

Re: [Flexradio] PSDR 2.0.20 RC2 Button Color

2011-03-30 Thread Ted Trostle
Try this...

Changing Skin Button Color in Default Skin

1. Using Windows Explorer, make a new temp folder

2. Then go to
C:\users\username\appdata\roaming\Flexradiosystems\powersdr\skins

3. Copy the skin of your choice that has the button color desired to the new
folder made above

4. In the NEW folder rename the skin to a name of your choice. Open the
“skin” Console

5. Repeat #2 and open the Default skin Console

6. Copy the file Console.png and paste it into your newly named skin’s
Console.

7. Go back to the Default skin console as in #5

8. Copy the file picDisplay.png and paste it into your newly named skin’s
Console

9. Copy your newly named skin into the PowerSDR skins folder, ie
C:\users\username\appdata\roaming\Flexradiosystems\powersdr\skins

10. Then run PSDR, SetUp\Appearance and select your new skin

won't even talk about the terrible results after the 1500 appeared--these
were all gone! Splendid audio, controls that once again work! A really
beautiful console! The Flex5000A is once again a true marvel of technology
for the ham! I can hardly wait for the completion of work for enhancement

Hello Dennis -

I found (On Win7) that if you have the font size greater that 100%, the
display of the Flex is distorted, on startup. Simply go to
setupappearanceSkins, and re-select the one you want. That seems to bring
back the screen to normal.

Good luck.

Re: [Flexradio] PSDR 2.0.22, XP skins problem

2011-03-30 Thread Neal Campbell (K3NC)

Hi Dave.

Make sure you did not change the Text Size setting to anything other than
the default in Windows. Some people who buy larger resolution monitors will
increase the text size so they can read text better and it screws up the
display of PowerSDR!

Hello,

I'm running an XP machine with all the latest updates, core2duo, Nvidia
graphics accelerator, two screens and so on. screen always looked good on
1.18.5 but now with 2.0.22 I noticed the box outlines are not where they
should be (as in the screen shot Tim sent last night.). on my screen the
box outlines cut across the middle of some of the buttons and some of the
buttons seem to have extra lines in them; nothing like the screen shot from
Tim.

It looks to me like I have a font setting on my PC that is incorrect causing
some sort of graphic overrun or something

I'll try and do a screen capture if the issue is not resolved by tonight.

Re: [Flexradio] NR/ANF in PSDR 2.0.22

2011-03-30 Thread Ted Trostle
I too have been experimenting with NR.

I have decided that there is no silver bullet for NR or NB for that matter.

We all have different noise floors and noise content and each day can be
different. In my location when a nearby well water pump starts running, the
noise floor jumps1 or 2 db and I see spikes that were not present before.
Switching to another band it may less or even worse. I also see differences
as band propagation conditions changes.

I just do not see how single software settings can handle it all. So I tweak
the Taps, but mostly I adjust the Delay numbers (down to as low as 15 works
great for me) and keep notes on which numbers worked best at that time.

Version 2 of the F5K manual suggests that the AGC-T be optimized before
adjusting any of the controls for the NR ANF filters. That seems to be
particularly true with the NR filter. When the S/N ratio has been
 optimized
the NR filter actually does effectively reduce the noise but it also
attenuates the signal. Adjusting the filter controls (Taps, Delay Gain)
as described in the manual can affect the filter performance as band
 conditions change.

Unfortunately, the manual does not refer at all to the Leak control and
adjusting that did not seem to have much effect on the filter. Perhaps
someone can explain its function and how to adjust it?

I did not experience any of the crackling conditions that others have
reported, except when the NR ANF filters were activated simultaneously.
Then a low level crackling could be heard. Perhaps this is an interaction
of the two filters and could be minimized with tweaking of the filter
 controls.

The NR ANF filters were virtually worthless in previous versions of PSDR
but have been significantly improved in v2.0.22. Hats off to the Flex team
 for these improvements.

2011-03-30 Thread Joel Harrison

Ted,

Excellent point!

The same noise will even act differently on different bands, requiring a
different approach (settings) in which to minimize the effect.

One very good example here at W5ZN is the difference in how I must handle
the same line noise source to the NE on 160 meters as opposed to 50 MHz!

[Flexradio] Turning Flex-3000 Off/On Remotely

2011-03-30 Thread Gary Robertson
I want to turn my Flex-3000 off and on remotely while I am traveling. To
accomplish this, I hope to plug my Alinco 330MV power supply into an
internet controlled power switch like the Digital Loggers Inc, (DLI) Web
Power Switch III.

My Flex-3000 and Palstar AT-Auto are powered directly from the
Alinco-330MV power supply. While away, I plan to leave the switch on the
Flex-3000 pushed in and the switch on the Palstar AT-Auto selected to
the on position. When I turn the Alinco-330MV power supply ON from a
remote location via the internet controlled DLI Web Power Switch, the
Flex-3000 and Palstar tuner will power on. When I turn the the
Alinco-330MV OFF via the internet controlled DLI Web Power Switch, the
Flex-3000 and Palstar tuner will turn off.

My question is this - can I SAFELY power up and power down my Flex-3000
in this manner? Also, does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can
connect or disconnect my outdoor antenna from my system via an internet
connection should it appear that electrical storms may occur at my home
station?

I access my home station remotely via Teamviewer and Skype from a 13
Macbook Pro. I am using PowerSDR 2.0.22 on my Flex-3000 on a dual core
Windows 7 computer provided by Neal. Everything works great!

Thanks for the advice.

You could use a SPDT coaxial relay wired so that when it was unpowered
(from the Alinco) the outdoor antenna lead was disconnected from the
radio and perhaps use the other side to ground the radio antenna
connector. When it was powered up the relay would energeize and connect
the radio. If you also had a surge protection device outdoors where the
antenna enters the building (ICE, Polyphaser, etc.) this would offer a
fair bit of disconnected protection.

Re: [Flexradio] Turning Flex-3000 Off/On Remotely

Route the antenna through a relay that turns on/off with the Alinco
power supply. Let that relay disconnect the antenna from the rig and
connect both leads to ground when powered down.

[Flexradio] Tuning step and HRD problems

2011-03-30 Thread Ronald G. Parsons
I just installed PSDR 2.0.22 and Ham Radio Deluxe Release 5.0 Build 2893
(released yesterday).

I noted two problems.

1. In PSDR SetupGeneralOptions, I have “Snap Click Tune” checked, but click
tuning in the panadapter tunes to 1 HZ, not the value set in “Tune Step.” Mouse
wheel tuning does follow Tune Step intervals.

2. With HRD 2893 and PSDR 2.0.22, the old CAT tuning slowness has partially
returned. Some tuning changes in PSDR get recognized immediately in HRD, but
sometimes there is a delay of 5-6 seconds. Tuning changes made in HRD seem to
be reflected in PSDR immediately.

Re: [Flexradio] Tuning step and HRD problems

2011-03-30 Thread Jim Jannuzzo

Ron,
I'm using MiniDeluxe to connect PSDR Official 2.0 to HRD logbook and DM780.
Both are version 2893 from HRD 5. There is no CAT tuning delay, the snap
click tune works FB, and the PTT is instantaneous.
As you know, HRD gives some of the same radio control functions as PSDR.
Hence, MiniDeluxe was born to cut out the HRD middleman. If you don't
need to duplicate the radio controls with both PSDR and HRD, you may save
yourself some trouble with the MiniDeluxe route. This forum told me about
MiniDeluxe, and I have become a believer.

Hello Dennis -

I found (On Win7) that if you have the font size greater that 100%, the
display of the Flex is distorted, on startup. Simply go to
setupappearanceSkins, and re-select the one you want. That seems to bring

back the screen to normal.

Good luck.

 Hello,

I'm running an XP machine with all the latest updates, core2duo, Nvidia
graphics accelerator, two screens and so on. screen always looked good on
1.18.5 but now with 2.0.22 I noticed the box outlines are not where they
should be (as in the screen shot Tim sent last night.). on my screen the
box outlines cut across the middle of some of the buttons and some of the
buttons seem to have extra lines in them; nothing like the screen shot
 from Tim.

It looks to me like I have a font setting on my PC that is incorrect
causing some sort of graphic overrun or something

I'll try and do a screen capture if the issue is not resolved by tonight.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

I have to use 2048 buffers to stop the crackling. And much more CPU
load; and 35% avg. Whereas previous version I could use 512 and have
 about 18% load nominally.

I will give it a go for a night but will revert back.

2011-03-30 Thread Gerald Youngblood
Gwyn,

I recommend that you turn down AGC-T for best signal to noise. This will
give you the most satisfactory experience. I never run AGC-T higher than
needed to clearly hear the other station without much band noise in the
background.

As you know I use CW exclusively and unlike most people I believe, I use

worried that the actual outgoing CW would sound the same, so today I
analysed the outgoing audio and found that it was perfect, which makes me
much happier. There remains the small discrepancy with the CW in the
headphones (monitored) but that is nothing to worry about. Of course the
 incoming CW is normal.

Just thought I'd share this with you.

[Flexradio] 2.0.20 rc2 and 2.0.22

2011-03-30 Thread Robert Delaney

I decided to upgrade the software today in light of the Flex
recommendations. Here is what I have found so far after starting with
2.0.22 I could not select any transverter band and then return to HF
without total loss of signal. I could only reaquire the rx signals by
restarting the radio and software.
Finding a post by Al regarding loss of signals on 6 meters after
selecting a transverter I decided to downgrade to 2.0.20 rc2.
Now this problem has gone away but I find that the 5000 does not
retain antenna selections properly more specificaly use RX1 loop on 6
meters to use the preamp and it is applied to all bands. If I unselect
it in other HF bands it is no longer checked in 6 meters.

Maybe I have forgotten a magic box to click ?
I was using 2.0.6 until today and all worked pretty well except image
reject etc. All RF routing and antenna selections were AOK.

Anyone else having trouble with antenna selections or signal loss on
the 5K ??

Suggestions?
