[Flexradio] Low DPC PCIe NIC?
Hi, A non-ham friend has been having issues with his computer's Firewire, similar to those which can happen to the Flex. He does video and audio editing for some of the churches and schools here. Applying the techniques and software discussed here, we have found, after updating the drivers, BIOS, system and NIC power options, etc, that it is working much better. However, it still gets hammered when there is network access, though now it seldom fails to recover. That is solution enough. He just disables his internet when editing. However, since the NIC is on the Dell motherboard, we have been wondering if a PCIe card might solve the problem? They are cheap enough to try. Google knows all, and I have looked back through these messages and the KB, but are there any _current_ Ethernet card recommendations? He is using WIN7, 32 bit. Re: [Flexradio] Low DPC PCIe NIC?
A lot of video editing software will recommend a particular Firewire card chipset for use with their products. It is not a coincidence that they are usually TI or Lucent cards. I would check to see what chipset is used on the Dell. I suspect it is going to be a JMicron (know to be poor performers) or VIA. I would think adding a TI based PCIe Firewire card would make a difference, as it does with the Firewire based FLEX SDRs. Tim Ellison On 4/13/2012 10:35 AM, Alan P. I too have seen where network access can cause long DPC latency and I have found that updating the NIC drivers often solves the problem. First you should go to the website of the manufacturer of the NIC chip and load their driver rather than the one supplied by Dell. See if that improves things. You can also try another NIC plugged into one of the PCIe slots. I would make sure that I get one that uses a chip from a different manufacturer. But you should also look at what is running and causing network access. Often it is not the network access itself that is causing the problem but rather what is doing the network access. Background tasks that do software update or virus checkers that run to scan data arriving from the network can cause long DPC latency. You may find that disabling your anti-virus software or getting different anti-virus software solves the problem as well. In fact, I have not run any anti-virus software on the computer that runs my radios for several years now and have not been infected. I keep my machine behind a good firewall and I do no surf the web or use email from the radio computer. But I keep the internet connection working even when PowerSDR is running. WSPR automatically updates the central database and my logging program automatically logs to eQSL. So I want to have full-time Internet access. Brian, We did try the non-Dell drivers, and they were probably the most significant factor in improving the issue. Dave does this service on the proverbial shoestring, so one computer has to fit all. My own system, being a Neal Special, works fine from this standpoint. 73s, Alan WA4SCA -Original Message- From: br...@lloyd.com [mailto:br...@lloyd.com] On Behalf Of Brian Lloyd Sent: Friday, April 13, 2012 9:59 AM To: apbid...@mailaps.org Cc: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re: [Flexradio] Low DPC PCIe NIC? [Flexradio] RF in earphones when transmitting
To all, I would like to download some advice from this knowledgeable group. I have a Flex 3000 with an ALS 1300 amplifier, and Heil Pro Set Elite headphones. Everything works great, except on 40 meters where I get RF in my headphones when I transmit at full amplifier power. I have tried changing the lengths of patch cables in the shack, and also upgrading them to a thicker cable, but all to no avail. I seem to be getting out just fine, but the loud static in my ears when I am speaking is distracting. Any ideas how to make this problem go away? Is your MON button disabled? Re: [Flexradio] RF in earphones when transmitting
I had a similar RF problem with a Heil headset mic. The RF came back at me through both the speakers and the headphones. Since this was the only RFI I've ever seen in my shack, I used a good ol' Mix 31 split ferrite and wound the mic cord through it several times, as was already recommended. Since the ferrite is heavy, and the mic cable is very puny, I also put the Heil mic adapter cable through it for both support and additional RF suppression. It worked fine. [Flexradio] MultiRX Question
OK, bear with me. I have researched this question, and I believe the answer is NO, but I thought I run it past the list anyways. Using MultiRX, can I monitor two different frequencies on two different bands at the same time? So, let's say VFO A is on 7.200, can I listen to 14.280 on VFO B at the same time. This is RX only, not TX, of course. Thanks for the time. Justin KB1TFH On Apr 13, 2012, at 12:18 PM, Jim Jannuzzo wrote: I had a similar RF problem with a Heil headset mic. Re: [Flexradio] MultiRX Question
Justin, The answer is no. You cannot even receive a 2nd signal within the same band if it is too far away from the VFO frequency. The receiver data stream from the A/D converter contains a range of frequencies centered on the VFO frequency. The width of that range is determined by the A/D sampling rate. MultiRX can only receive a signal that is within that range of frequencies. Good rule of thumb: If you can see it in the panadapter at some zoom level, you can receive it with MultiRX -- otherwise, not. 73, Ray, K9DUR http://k9dur.info ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/

Re: [Flexradio] SDR1000 and Port audio error
32 or 64-bit Vista? It isn't going to work with any 64-bit operating system. If you are using the USBIO interface, it isn't going to work either. You may have an audio driver incompatibility issue. Your best bet is to try and get it running with 1.18.6 first. If successful, then load and try 2.3.5 Tim Ellison, W4TME Product Management, Sales Support FlexRadio Systems^(TM) 4616 W Howard Ln Ste 1-150 Austin, TX 78728 Phone: 512-535-4713 Ext. 223 Email: t...@flexradio.com mailto:t...@flexradio.com Web: www.flexradio.com http://www.flexradio.com logo On 4/13/2012 9:47 PM, Ross Biggar wrote: After having my old SDR1000 sitting on the shelf looking at me longly, I have attempted to set it up with 2.3.5. [Flexradio] SDR1000 and port audio error
Thanks Tim, that was a very quick reply. I am using a 32 bit machine. For some reason 1.18.6 starts and the stops with Windows saying it has a problem. However a very very old version of powersdr seems to run, I say seems to, because it sees the SDR1000 ok and is receiving data. I will try again on another computer with a clean install of 1.18.6 and see what happens.
