I'm trying to get everything configured for my new 1500. It's been
about a year since I've done any work with PowerSDR and the associated
peripheral programs so my memory is a little foggy on setup and optimum
settings. Also it seems to me that I've seen more than one version of
setup instructions for VAC over the years with different values and
recommendations in each. What are the most up to date and correct setup

2013-01-18 Thread ric5
Hello all,
I have question I'm also trying to set up VAC myself for the first time. I
downloaded VAC 4.12.0.4972 (DEMO VERSION). I cannot get it to work. It works
fine in receive mode but NO transmit. VAC 1 is the only option I can select
on Power SDR. I went thru the set up 5 times thinking I messed something.
I'm using this with my Flex 1500, the VAC2 button is blacked out on my Power
SDR ver 2.4.4. but VAC 1 you can select and works. Running Fldigi 3.21.66
receives fine just cannot get to transmit !
Any tips from anyone ?

That is lucky for you then.

DO NOT USE ANY DEMO VERSION OF VAC!! YOU WILL END UP TRANSMITTING A
VOICE IN THE DIGITAL PORTION OF THE BANDS IF YOU DO!

You **MUST** purchase and use the non-demo version of VAC. Just do it. It
will work.

 It works
fine in receive mode but NO transmit. VAC 1 is the only option I can select
 on Power SDR.

That is because you haven't configured VAC to have VAC2.

Yes. You missed opening up the VAC control panel and creating a second
virtual audio cable.

Have you read this:

https://fedorahosted.org/fldigi/wiki/Documentation/HOWTO/PowerSDR

It is a bit old but if you follow the steps it will get you where you want
to do ... AFTER YOU PURCHASE VAC.

Calibration, or index of co-operation, was never an issue, or even used,
with HELL. That's why a receiving HELL system prints two lines with the
same text simultaneously.
That way a slanted text has always at least one complete instance of text
visible.

[Flexradio] VAC Setup for Flex1500

2013-01-18 Thread George J Molnar
For KD4JRX,

When setting up VAC, it's important to remember:

You need TWO VAC's set up in the software control panel - one for transmit, one
for receive. These must match up with the appropriate input/output lines in
PowerSDR (Setup, Audio tab, VAC1).

VAC2 in PowerSDR is not used in the Flex 1500 series.

To transmit, you'll also need a PTT line - typically done with a serial
control, like VSPManager. If you press MOX when your software is
transmitting, do you get output? That's a good test for your VAC
configuration.

Finally, yeah, you really must buy the VAC license. It's well worth it. Having
a periodic voice stamp in your audio, transmit or receive, is a bad thing.

Good luck!!!

Has anyone else noticed that there is an additional preamp on 40M and 30M if
you use the keyboard CTRL P command?

This is especially noticeable when you have the AGC-T set to about 60% or

40 M only has 3 levels... ATTN-OFF-PRE1
But if you use the Ctrl-P there seems to be an additional level (Pre2

Thanks,
I was aware of the KB article and I guess the Flex wiki is still out
there too but it had seemed to me some of the optimum setup parameters
and which Windows drivers to use had changed as PowerSDR has evolved.

Using Ctl P and cycling through the settings with the P key whilst holding
CTL

you can find that additional preamp setting on 60 40 and 30m bands

Has anyone else noticed that there is an additional preamp on 40M and
30M

if
you use the keyboard CTRL P command?

This is especially noticeable when you have the AGC-T set to about 60%
or

70%.

40 M only has 3 levels... ATTN-OFF-PRE1
But if you use the Ctrl-P there seems to be an additional level (Pre2
perhaps).

Strange..

Re: [Flexradio] Most up to date setup directions for VAC and PowerSDR?

2013-01-18 Thread Michael Walker
Hi Michael

It really has nothing to do with the drivers. The process is still the
same.

The drivers operate at a different layer.

 Thanks,
I was aware of the KB article and I guess the Flex wiki is still out there
too but it had seemed to me some of the optimum setup parameters and which
Windows drivers to use had changed as PowerSDR has evolved. Just wanted to
make sure I had everything in the most up to date configuration.

The 5000, 3000, and 1500 all have different preamp and attenuator
 combinations.
