Found it Dale, thanks.

If you're talking about the sidetone frequency, you can set it right
from the main PowerSDR screen. It's just to the right of the Speed
slider.

Ok Keith.

Tnx for your input here. Will look for the program you mention.

/Erik

Hi Erik

Normally

OS -> PSDR -> DDUtil -> RCP programs like HRD or MIXW or DigiPan

You should allow ten seconds between each. This can be automated with a
program like BatchRun. Searchable on the net as btrun430.exe.

Assuming the carrier is at 9996, change the frequency in the
calibration form and the VFO-A to 9996 and run the calibration test.

There is nothing special about WWV other than the carrier is at a
particular frequency. And carrier at a known frequency can be used.

Then change the calibration frequency value to 9996000. Two things
matter and are required for the calibration to work:

 1. It must be a steady carrier;
 2. It must be at least as accurate as the radio, which implies an
accuracy better than about 1/2 Hz.

Re: [Flexradio] frequency

2011-07-15 Thread Erik Jakobsen

Hi Ignacio

Ok with RWM and how it does the trick. I found the schedule here:

http://www.irkutsk.com/radio/tis.htm

/Erik
A problem with the Russian standard frequency stations like RWM is
that they usually don't transmit a continuous carrier but at some
short periods. Most of the time they key the carrier on and off with
the 1 pps or 10 pps pulses, quite difficult to use then for fine
receiver calibrations so you must wait until the carrier is steady
on. I used to have a schedule but Is lost it some time ago.

Ok Tim. I'll keep fingers away, as there's now issue on my site with it :-)

/Erik
Once you have run the frequency calibration, you can use these
techniques to fine tune the frequency accuracy, but you will find that
the frequency calibration routine will get you very close. This KB
article was written when the frequency calibration routine was not as
accurate as it is now.

   1. tune in WWV or CHU

And with the radio in which mode ?

It doesn't matter. The calibration routine changes the radio
mode to suit its own purposes.

   2. Setup>general>calibration
   3. Select WWV frequency
   4. press START
   5. go look at the clock offset in setup>general>hardware

[Flexradio] Click_Tune

2011-07-15 Thread Erik Jakobsen

Hi.

I'm a bit int doubt how to use click_tune.

A screenshot of how I see it is shown here:

http://www.urballen.dk/click_tune.jpg

Please tell me where to fire the yellow, to get it placed ok.

As can be viewed, the TuneStep is set to 50Hz.

Re: [Flexradio] Click_Tune

2011-07-15 Thread Erik Jakobsen

Thanks for reply and information Tim.

I had that idea about the 50Hz for Tune Step.

On RTTY -as I show on the dump- would you click in the 'valley' between
the two mark and space signals ?.

I ask, because I think I have tested all possiblities without getting
the right method.

/Erik
Click Tune is dependent on the Tune Step and mode. Depending how
close you click tune to the signal of interest, it will tune to the
strongest signal withing the frequency range of the Tune Step setting.

If you are tying to Click Tune SSB signals that are ~3K wide and the
Tune Step is only 50 Hz, you will probably not get Click Tune to
properly tune to the SSB signal's suppressed carrier frequency. SSB
signals need a Tune Step value of closer to 500 Hz to 1 KHz. I place
the yellow cross-hairs near the suppressed carrier part of the SSB
signal where the signal strength is the strongest to Click Tune SSB
signals.

Zack,

Might be the memory.xml file is bad...Go to Windows Run ,
type %AppData%and click Run.. This should take you to your
Appdata folder, then select the FlexRadio Systems folder. In that
folder there is a memory.xml and a master.xml file.Rename the
Memory file to something else, may be memoryold.xml.. Restart

correct it, how about sending your old file back to me at

Re: [Flexradio] Worst case scenario

2011-11-24 Thread Erik Jakobsen

Neal, you did that, cause you also is a human being as we all are :-)

Sorry for the grin

/Erik

Why is it we always go for the worst outcome first?

I have been building and testing a computer today and everything was going
smoothly until it just turned off. Would not power up no matter what!

So, I unplug everything from the motherboard and bring out the PSU tester,
which shows a bad power supply. So, I plug in the bench PSU and try the
computer, no luck. So I put the power supply tester on the bench power
supply and it shows dead.

This is too much stuff dead but my first suspicion is that the PSU tester
isn't good so I throw it away and look for my spare one (not found).

Then I look down and see the power cord is not fully plugged in. AHA!

So I unplug the bench PSU and get the PSU tester out of the trash. Plug
the original PSU back in, hit the power button and nothing happens! So I
plug the PSU tester into the original PSU and still no reading. Well, maybe
the original PSU really did die!

So I am looking in inventory for a replacement PSU and see I have none
available (the bench PSU is very underpowered for anything but testing).
But, I figured, at least confirm the motherboard isn't dead so I plug in
the bench PSU and hit the power button, nothing.

Usually at this stage its a sign I need to walk away because frustration
will start to blind me. So I push back my chair to leave and then see the
power cord for the power outlet on my test bench has worked its way out of
the power socket.

Why didn't I check that at the beginning and save myself an hour of
frustration and picking my PSU tester out of trash twice???

At least its up and working normally again!

What type of ATOM ?

Thanks to everyone who helped. I got time to go over to N3AO last night
and we got his headset working.

My Heil Proset set is Tango Uniform. I think there is a break in the cord
as neither element works. This induced aggro which led to an improper
setting in the aggro environment which prevented the perfectly good headset
from showing it was working.

The 5000 is working perfectly in all modes on my Intel ATOM computer.
Since N3AO, N3KN, N1SMM, and I will be doing contesting and some serious
algorithm testing, I am moving the new AMD II-X4 over there to use.

When my refurbished AMD II-X4 arrived from Tigerdirect it was DOA.

When I found out they had depleted their stock, I looked at Walmart and
found this

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Acer-1TB-PT.SGM02.002/16608489

It was the same price, brand new, with better graphics

I will report after the contest this weekend.

The second is a gray 1/8" mono plug for the mike, and I DON'T see where to

There is no jack of that size on the front of the '5000, and I need help

Re: [Flexradio] Can not get new SDR and 1500 working

2012-04-07 Thread Erik Jakobsen
I would use Revo Uninstaller to do uninstall, because it also removes
leftovers.

73s Erik OZ4KK

Help, I recently received my new Flex 1500 and I can not get the SDR software
out of Demo mode?
I had previously installed SDR 2.3.5 in demo mode prior to receiving my 1500.
I tried using that version first, it was downloaded from Flex site, it would
not come out of demo. I uninstalled it, installed from the new CD, same
problem. I did that couple times, restarted computer etc. The software tells
me to change from demo mode in the setup form, but I looked everywhere, no such
from available in the program. Did uninstall via Windows 7, and also via the
SDR CD, only thing I get is demo mode and no way to change it. My 1500 drivers
installed automatically when I connected it. Followed instructions in start
up. Spent lots of time on this.
Please help with suggestions. Thank you 73

Re: [Flexradio] Alternatives to Skype for remote audio?

2012-06-11 Thread Erik Jakobsen

Place what you write at the flexradiowiki :-)

/Erik OZ4KK

Hi Rich,
I have gotten "TeamViewer 7" VoIP audio working after many try's and the
audio is really quite good on HF. You have to turn it on at both ends which
is NO problem because I use TeamViewer for the remote access control anyway
and I just have to click the audio connect button on the Radio side as well
as the (Local) remote side.

I need to do a write up on it so I don't forget how to do it and when I get
some time of course, I can pass it around if anyone else is interested.

The Audio for me is MUCH better then Skype which I have used for several
years and doesn't have all the extra crap.

If you turn down the Refresh Rates under the Setup, Display tab it will help
with bandwidth.

I have used Skype in the past. However, Skype is designed for high
quality telephone conversations and it tries to eliminate background
noise. A certain amount of noise is inherent in our usage and any
attempt to eliminate it, instead of improving it, causes pumping. Thus,
I use IPSound by SM5VXC which just plays it like it is. Thus, I find
that IPSound works much better than Skype for our purposes.

Re: [Flexradio] PowerSDR 2.4.4 Flex-1500 and 60m

2012-09-17 Thread Erik Jakobsen

Had the same here. A database reset cured it.

73s
Erik OZ4KK

(Corrected header)

Hello,

I think my Flex-1500 is behaving strange on 60m.

I have European Flex-1500, region 1, and it is opened for TX at 60m, 5.250 -
5.450MHz. RX and TX works OK.

But PowerSDR is saying only "Out of band" in this segment, but is saying
"60m general receive" outside this segment.

This must be wrong! (I have not imported any old databases.)

I also will complain about the bandstack registers on 60m band.

When repeated click 60m band button I only get 2 channels, 5.380 and 5.371.5
(or so).

(On version 2.3.5 there was Channel 1,4,5, and general)

I would like it to behave like any other band, get the frequency you like,
not preset channels.

Can this be changed?

Seems as if “Out of Band” is displayed regardless of frequency entered on both

the display, everything seems to behave as normal.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Re: [Flexradio] 32 or 64 bit ?

2009-07-05 Thread Erik Jakobsen

Thanks to all for your inputs.

Tim!, do you mean to use a dual boot system ?.

/Erik

The PowerSDR software and the FLEX Firewire driver are 100% compatible with either
the 64 or 32-bit operating systems. Some third party software is not fully
compatible with 64-bit operating systems or Vista (32 & 64-bit) in general.

64-bit XP was basically a Microsoft experiment for trying out 64-bit on
Windows. Continued support of it is minimal at best.

Since you have only 4 GB of RAM, a 64-bit OS will not buy you any performance
benefit (PowerSDR is a 32-bit application).

The FLEX Firewire driver, while it works on Win7 RC versions, it is not
certified for that operating system, but I assume that a driver update after it
is released will be.

If the hard drive is large enough, partition it in half, load 32-bit XP on the
first partition and start using it. When Win7 x64 is released, load it on the
other half of the hard drive. Oh yeah, add a few more GB of RAM when you load
the 64-bit OS. It will probably need it, as Microsoft operating systems love
to consume RAM.

Hi Dudley.

The culprit was, that I by a fault had a wrong FireWire driver
installed. After I got that fixed, I got the Audio and the 2 MIDIs
installed.

Thanks for the input here :-)
73,
Erik

Erik,

Something happened that has caused the FireWire driver to need to be
re-installed, either moved the radio to a different FW port,
replaced the FW card, or updated the FW driver. But in any event,
under XP you will see three (3) Found New HW wizards come up on the
driver install, Audio, and (2) MIDIs.. Vista does not give you any
of these indications.

[Flexradio] Flex 5000 A and Fldigi

2009-08-11 Thread Erik Jakobsen

Hi.

I try to set up Fldigi on my F5KA radio, but I have issues.
Here is the latest part from the fldigi-alpha mailinglist, where I have
asked for help.

--- device #9

Name= Virtual Cable 2
Host API= Windows DirectSound
Max inputs = 8, Max outputs = 0
Default low input latency =0.000
Default low output latency =0.000
Default high input latency =0.000
Default high output latency =0.000

 8000.00, 9600.00, 11025.00, 12000.00,
16000.00, 22050.00, 24000.00, 32000.00,
44100.00, 48000.00, 88200.00, 96000.00,
192000.00

This is Virtual Audio Cable masquerading as a DirectSound device. This
is the input device that gives you the error.

This is the same device accessed via the MME API.

Please try again with the MME devices for both capture and playback,
i.e., not the "Virtual Cable 2" devices that are under the "Windows
DirectSound devices" submenus.

If this works we'll have to assume that VAC doesn't work well under
DirectSound, or that there's a bug in PortAudio's DirectSound backend.

I think what Brian achieves by forcing the sample rate is to avoid the
problem where fldigi tries to set a sample rate of 0.0 (the default rate
reported by PortAudio for VAC/DS). The toggle to "File I/O" and back
must be a way to reinitialise PortAudio. If you save the settings and
restart fldigi you shouldn't have to do this.

I'm not sure why PortAudio reports 0.0 for the VAC DSound device, or how
fldigi should handle this.

Does anyone here on this list have any solution(s) to the issue(s) ?

Well, VAC pretends to be an audio device because this is what it
does... I don't know why it's giving you trouble, only that your
previous email contains an fldigi log that shows an error while trying
to access the "Virtual Cable 2" DirectSound input device.

Do you mean still using the VAC, or make a change in the set up in the

http://www.urbakken.dk/windowsdirectsound.jpg

I'm not quite sure what to try.

PowerSDR uses PortAudio, like fldigi, (though I believe they have their
own version forked from PortAudio mainline many months ago).

Concerning VAC, the PowerSDR manual says that "with most digital
software MME will work well". So I suggest that you go with MME both in
PowerSDR and fldigi.

In fldigi, the PortAudio capture and playback menus contain devices
names that appear twice. The device that appears in the main capture or
playback menu is the MME device, and the corresponding DirectSound
device in in a submenu.

BTW, PowerSDR supports PortAudio backends that fldigi does not. We
cannot build ASIO support into the win32 fldigi binary because the ASIO
license is totally incompatible with the GPL. The WDM-KS backend I
could never get to work and in any case it requires a huge SDK download
from MS (unless one downloads the headers from somewhere else, not
good).

I mention this because I don't know if VAC is capable of speaking to its
client programs via different backends, e.g. MME to PowerSDR and
DirectSound to fldigi. To be safe use the same backend (Driver) in both.

If this works we'll have to assume that VAC doesn't work well under
DirectSound, or that there's a bug in PortAudio's DirectSound backend.

We'll see it when I have it explained what to do :-)

This is Virtual Audio Cable masquerading as a DirectSound device.
This

is the input device that gives you the error.

Because of it's masquerading ?.

Well, VAC pretends to be an audio device because this is what it
does... I don't know why it's giving you trouble, only that your
previous email contains an fldigi log that shows an error while
trying to access the "Virtual Cable 2" DirectSound input device.

Do you mean still using the VAC, or make a change in the set up in
the SDR itself, here ?

http://www.urbakken.dk/MME.jpg

and
http://www.urbakken.dk/MME2.jpg

and try running this or ?

http://www.urbakken.dk/windowsdirectsound.jpg

I'm not quite sure what to try.

PowerSDR uses PortAudio, like fldigi, (though I believe they have
their own version forked from PortAudio mainline many months ago).

Concerning VAC, the PowerSDR manual says that "with most digital
software MME will work well". So I suggest that you go with MME
both in PowerSDR and fldigi.

In fldigi, the PortAudio capture and playback menus contain devices
names that appear twice. The device that appears in the main
capture or playback menu is the MME device, and the corresponding
DirectSound device in in a submenu.

BTW, PowerSDR supports PortAudio backends that fldigi does not. We
cannot build ASIO support into the win32 fldigi binary because the
ASIO license is totally incompatible with the GPL. The WDM-KS
backend I could never get to work and in any case it requires a
huge SDK download from MS (unless one downloads the headers from
somewhere else, not good).

I mention this because I don't know if VAC is capable of speaking
to its client programs via different backends, e.g. MME to PowerSDR
and DirectSound to fldigi. To be safe use the same backend (Driver)
in both.

If this works we'll have to assume that VAC doesn't work well
under DirectSound, or that there's a bug in PortAudio's
DirectSound backend.

We'll see it when I have it explained what to do :-)

I think what Brian achieves by forcing the sample rate is to
avoid the problem where fldigi tries to set a sample rate of 0.0
(the default rate reported by PortAudio for VAC/DS). The toggle
to "File I/O" and back must be a way to reinitialise PortAudio.
If you save the settings and restart fldigi you shouldn't have to
do this.

I understand.

I'm not sure why PortAudio reports 0.0 for the VAC DSound device,
or how fldigi should handle this.

Maybe it's totally a fail to try to get Fldigi to run with Flex
radios ?.

I don't see why fldigi

No. CW Skimmer works best with PowerSDR when "raw" or direct I/Q data is fed into it. MixW requires post processed audio, so the VAC settings in PowerSDR are different.

Re: [Flexradio] [SPAM] Flex 3000 - host error after applying full power output

2009-09-03 Thread Erik Jakobsen

Hi.

Also here there is a good article on RF grounding:

http://www.para.org.ph/membersarticles/DU1ANV/Grounding%20Systems.htm

73s-Erik-OZ4KK

>From what you have described, you have an RF problem that is faulting the
Firewire interface causing the unanticipated host error. The problem is most
likely RF on the coax shield (common mode currents) due to the unbalanced antenna
(G5RV) you are using. The SWR will show to be low and the impedance presented to
the radio something very close to 50 ohms, but the RF level still high on the
shield of the coax. This RF has to go to ground (low potential) and it is doing
so through the Firewire connection to the computer and then probably to the AC
safety ground. Eliminate the RF on the Firewire cable and your problems will be
solved. There are many people running 1500 watts with this radio in high RF
environments so the problem is not inherent to the FLEX-3000.

Since the SDR is a radio system consisting of hardware and a computer, you have
to look at the computer as the other half of the radio. This is not the case
with a traditional radio. You have to make sure both the radio and the
computer are not susceptible to stray RF

You can validate the RF issue by connecting the radio to a dummy load and
transmit at full power. If the radio works fine, then the antenna is
definitely the problem and that is where you need to start troubleshooting. I
do not suspect the Firewire card in the computer as being the problem.

There are several of ways to fix common mode RF currents. You can attack the root
cause, eliminating the common mode currents on the coax before it gets to the radio
& computer by:

Checking for bad coax, especially the connectors for breaks or poor shield
connections.

Use a common mode choke to shunt the RF to ground from the coax before it enters the shack.

Ground the shield of the coax before it enters the shack.

Ground the radio to the computer using a low impedance ground strap
http://kc.flex-radio.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50370.aspx

Or you can try to mitigate the symptoms by trying to keep the RF from making it
all the way to the computer by using mix31 ferrite beads on both ends of the
Firewire cable and using a better shielded Firewire cable.

I do have a rather floating question regarding the 3000 and general SWR issues and an error I have been getting "unanticipated host error".
This error forces me to restart computer, and in one instance pretty much to go back and reinstall all drivers and SDR from page one onward of the quick guide.

I did some back reading on this error and it seems to mostly stem from some Firewire error.

The computer is a full sized HP tower, but I am using the internal 1394 port
now, as I can at this time not access a full sized Firewire card this
computer does not have PCIExpress slots and the is the size of card BestBuy has
on shelf stock.

I am curious. I have been able to load my G5RV OK on the antenna tuner (Z
match, which has worked OK for all bands on all previous rigs... ) ON 80 M and
this evening on 40m it seems...

It appears that even with a low SWR match on the tuner for 20m so far...once I
get the load OK on test, that given any increase in power beyond around a 10
watt tuning level I end up getting the unanticipated host error and PowerSDR
crashes and computer needs a reboot.

OK.. but I have seen nothing in the back archives re. that error and tuning up, SWR, etc. Only re. the Firewire host.

Or am I dealing with some inherent problem with the 3000 to work into a tuner
load that while is seen as approx. 1:1 is not some sort of perfect 50 ohm load?

Reality is.. I am on a city sized lot all I can run with for 80 and 40 and 30 m too I suspect is a VEE variant with ladder line and tuner and a balun... I will have a tri band Yagi beam back up later in the fall after I have the damaged antenna replaced, but I do need to run the wire antenna for 80, 40 and 30 pretty much.. as well as for the other two WARC bands.

I just want to get some idea before I go ahead and move my wife's computer to my shack (as it accomodates my over the air HiDef WinTV personal video recording to hard drive card...) and then have to buy a new smaller one for her that does not need to have all the card space I need for TV PVR and FireWire.

I really DO like the 3000 so far.. and I am already plotting to somehow acquire a 5000A if I can find one :) for its better specs and I already MISS having the bandscope function when using my Elecraft K3.

Just really concerned about what antenna situation, RF SWR

The Help directory is not in C:\Program Files\FlexLoader, but is in
C:\Program Files\FlexLoader\FlexLoader Libs

Here the Help directory has to be moved one step back.

73s-Erik-OZ4KK

Jordan,

The Flex Loader is for keeping a good local repository of the
different firmware versions, and to help assist in loading the
firmwares, a firmware management tool..
All the current drivers and PowerSDR versions are located on the Flex
Home page, on the left hand side..

http://www.flex-radio.com

But you should install the Flex Radio driver (FireWire driver for the
radio), connect the radio, power up the radio, verify that the Flex
Radio Driver is communicating with the radio, then install and run
PowerSDR.. Try to install the Driver, "Run as Administrator" this
helps if UAC (User Access Control) is left on in Vista or Win7..

QST to all Flexers,

PowerSDR v1.18.3 is now available for download from the FlexRadio web
site. (http://support.flex-radio.com/Downloads.aspx?id=294)

This is a maintenance release of PowerSDR and contains no new
features; just fixes and improvements to existing features.

Note: For FLEX-5000 and FLEX-3000 users, the FLEX Firewire driver
v3.4.2.6300 is recommended for this release.

Note: For FLEX-5000 users, firmware 1.3.0.8 is recommended for this
release.

Note: For FLEX-3000 users, firmware 1.2.5.6 is recommended for this
release.

1. Fixed image settings not being restored properly following a load
of the EEPROM (primarily after switching radios in production).

2. Fixed PanaFall cursor time showing 15-30 sec instead of 0-15ish.

3. Added color controls for RX1/RX2/TX Band button color indicators.

4. Fixed FLEX-5000 RX2 Ant N/C selection to work properly with
firmware v1.3.0.8.

5. Write checksum issues to log file for troubleshooting analysis.

6. Fixed bug when defining new XVTR band and manually tuning to that
band, then clicking a band button would cause an exception.

7. Added an additional preamp run state for the FLEX-3000. Pre1 is for
15m and above. Pre2 is for 10 & 6m. The preamp is not that effective
below 15 meters and should not be utilized unless the band is very quiet.

You have installed firmware in your radio that is not compatible with your
software. In addition, you have loaded a Firewire driver that will not allow
you to load a 1.x.x.x version of firmware.

You have loaded experimental device drivers and firmware for your radio. If you
are not participating in testing experimental software, then you should only be
using the versions of the software that are listed on the FlexRadio Systems
home page as the current software.

This information is discussed primarily on the FlexEdge reflector where topics pertain to
discussions of "leading edge" experimental, alpha, and beta [SVN]
software/firmware and hardware/system configurations.

For more information about the FlexEdge Reflector, please see the following web
page:

To sign up for the FlexEdge Reflector, use the FlexEdge Reflector User
Management web page
(http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexedge_flex-radio.biz) and go to
the Subscribing to FlexEdge section.

To fix your problem, un-install the v3.5.0.7171 driver and load the 3.4.2.6300
driver
Then install the version of firmware that PowerSDR is requesting.

Re: [Flexradio] Odd RFI Problem

Here is a nice article from a Far East ham. Now it's included here in

I suggest you take a look at the Tweakhound website, where there are
good tweaks.
I did that when Neal pointed the site out for me, and it has helped.

Re: [Flexradio] FLDigi and Rig control

2009-12-24 Thread Erik Jakobsen
Your friend is Google. Brian Lloyd wrote this.
(copy pasted from the mailarchive!)

Hope ok Brian ?.

8. Install the Flex 5000 driver.
9. Install PowerSDR.
10. Make sure these are both working properly.
11. Install VAC 4.09 live version -- DO NOT INSTALL THE DEMO
VERSION!! Configure it for two channels.
12. Install com0com. Configure it for two virtual RS232 cables:
COM6<>COM16 and COM7<>COM17. Enable buffer overrun on both.
13. Configure PowerSDR Audio>VAC. Use Driver: MME, Input: Virtual
Cable 2, Output: Virtual Cable 1.
14. Configure PowerSDR CAT Control for port COM6. Click to enable CAT.
Set the ID as: PowerSDR.
13. Install ddutil. Configure it to talk to the rig on COM16.
Configure it to talk to the rigctl program on COM17.
14. Download fldigi and the PowerSDR.xml rig control description file
from the fldigi home page.
15. Install fldigi. Copy the PowerSDR.xml file to the rigs folder
inside the fldigi.files folder. (The fldigi.files folder is at the top
level for the user under "Documents and Settings".)
16. Configure fldigi soundcard configuration to use portaudio with
Capture: Virtual Cable 1, and Playback: Virtual Cable 2.
17. Select the "Rig" tab of the fldigi configuration pane. Select the
"RigCAT" tab.
* Use RigCAT selected
* Rig description file: PowerSDR.xml
* Device: COM7
* Retries 3
* Retry interval 30
* command interval 80
* CAT command for PTT selected
* click "initialize", "save", and "close".

You are up and running.

Yes, besides fldigi there are other digital mode programs. But since I
run on MacOS, Windows, and Linux, I prefer fldigi. If you are only
going to run on Windows then I suggest you also consider the Ham Radio
Deluxe/DM780 combo. If you have followed the above instructions you
can pretty much substitute HRD for fldigi. I find the logging in HRD
and fldigi adequate for my uses. (I operate digital modes almost
exculsively.) For occasional voice operation I use the logging in HRD
as it supports this mode properly whereas the logging in fldigi does
not.

Good luck!

73 de Brian, WB6RQN/J79BPL

P.S. I will try out my F5K on my MacBook Pro using the IEEE-1394b port
with an adaptor cable and report back here.

[Flexradio] BSOD

2009-12-27 Thread Erik Jakobsen
I run at the moment 1.18.3 on my Flex 5000 A.
OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

I have had some BSOD's within the last few weeks.

Yes I was, but I'm not quite sure how to see how I can gain from the
BlueScreenViewer information.
I think the pink colored files are the ones, that BlueScreenViewer think
is doing BSOD, but I'm not sure
about that.

I have 2 screenshots on my homepage showing 2 results with the
BlueScreenViewer.

Re: [Flexradio] BSOD

2009-12-28 Thread Erik Jakobsen
Hi Neal.

No I have not. There is an HP Optical mouse connected, and has been
since the install.
Oh yes, I do have a Logitech Keyboard.

Both the mouse and keyboard connects to computers here via a KVM switch.
But also the keyboard has been connected since the W7 install.

I know even that, there could be issues.

The webcam here connects via my server to the Internet.

And I do have the LevelOne USB wireless adapter for the LAN here

No problem Neal. We always learn from it. I'll uninstall and start the

But first I will live without LAN/WAN access, as there is issues you

It was in one of the bsod's Peter.

I checked the driver, and it was not the legacy one.
Now it is, and according to Driver Detective it should be ok the driver.
I will search the reflector after the word 'legacy', as I think I have
seen that
it isn't necessary to use a legacy driver anylonger.

I have a NVIDIA GeForec 7300 LE graphical card.

It has a VGA connector and a DVI connector.

The VGA connects to a LCD VGA monitor and the DVI connects via an DVD to
VGA adapter to another LCD VGA monitor.

The puzzling setting the 2 monitors up is made via the NVIDIA control panel.

And it's fairly simple to do, and very nice to have working.

And the prize. The only that costs me is the grapich card as it also had
the DVD=>VGA adapter with it in the box.

Because deleting PowerSDR does not delete the application folder or the

Re: [Flexradio] F5000A & Atom 330

2010-01-20 Thread Erik Jakobsen

Ok Tim.

Do you mean the Deep Impact ?

/Erik

The Atom 330 is under powered for a FLEX-x000. Enabling DSP features such as
NR or NB in PowerSDR will cause it to have degraded audio performance. I have
not tried it with the latest Firewire drivers, but I suspect that it will not
be feasible for use as a CPU platform until there is software that supports
multirate DSP.

Yes, I built a box using a Zotac board that supported core2duo (lga775)
processors and had an pcie-1x port. Make sure the board doesn't have a
built-in Intel Atom, it'll be underpowered. Also, make sure it has the 1x
port or a PCI port, otherwise you won't be able to add firewire to it as
most dont have it built in.

I don't know whether or not you can get a board that supports AMD
processors, check newegg. Just make sure it has a pci/pcie slot for a
firewire card.

I've already got a spare 2.8ghz something AMD dual core processor, but
would
go with Intel if I had too.

Ron,

I had this same problem when using the FireWire on the motherboard of my new
Gateway Quad Core PC. I installed a PCI Express FireWire card with a TI
chipset and now everything is perfect. I can run in Normal Mode the
smallest audio buffer size at 192kHz sampling. The problem is completely
gone. Before getting away from the motherboard FireWire it was very
difficult to get it to run without audio distortion. My bet is that the
motherboard FireWire chip was sharing an interrupt with other devices.

Re: [Flexradio] Finally, root cause of high latency

I have this chipset:

Intel P45 (Eaglelake-P) + ICH10R

Is it in the same URL ?. I run Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, but it seems
not to be found there ?.

Erik OZ4KK

That driver is usually contained in the chipset driver package. You can try to
get an update from Intel. I have also seen a BIOS update resolve issues like
this.

You will probably need to ID your chipset
http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/sb/CS-009266.htm and then find the
driver update.

My Vista Ultimate, dual core, 2.4 GHz with 4 GB of RAM should be screaming.
But it has never done so.

Well, tonight I decided to try everything until I found the culprit. And I DID
find the root cause.

The Intel 82801 PCI Bridge - 244E. When I disable it latency drops down to
15 microseconds. When I enable it, latency is consistently 1000 microseconds.

Unfortunately, I also discovered that disabling this device also disables the
IEEE 1394 Firewire card.

So I have met the enemy, and it is me.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how I might resolve this prolem.

Every firewire card I have used Win 7 (release version) has picked a driver

The problem seems to be with the ohci1395.sys driver for Win7 x64 and
some Firewire host bus controllers/motherboard combinations. If it
was a systemic problem with the FLEX driver, there would be many more
instances of it being reported.

Erik,

As a potential Flex 5000 owner and current W7 64-bit user I must ask
- have
you checked that it's the FireWire driver that's causing the BSOD?

Were I to buy a Flex 5000 then I would want to write my own code to
drive
it, getting BSODs while developing code is not what I would want.

Re: [Flexradio] Revisited - firewire

2010-04-09 Thread Erik Jakobsen

Welcome, and yes it looks bad.
Unfortunately I'm not a clever programmer, and cannot write a device driver.
So untill a new one is ready, I have to run the legacy one, or try other
Firewire boards.

I too doubt, that W8 will solve the issue.

Thanks - looks bad :(

The very last thing I want to do is write a device driver. Come Windows 8
32-bits will in all probability not be an option.

Yes it does. Here is a report from one of my tests:
