[Flexradio] Can't sign in to community/ FLDIGI problem

2016-06-22 Thread Gordon P. Howell, Jr.
I tried to make a post this evening and every time I sign in, my sign in
doesn’t take with no error message, bad password or anything else. Just tells
me I am signed in but the system won’t let me post my query.

I’ll try here.

Does ANYONE have a procedure for configuring N1MM+ and SMARTSDR to work with
FLDIGI. I have tried numerous times tonight, after having to do a complete Win
7 reinstall when DDUtil began behaving badly. The reinstall was tortuous but
fix the problem, as Steve suggested.

Each time I tell the N1MM digital interface to use FLDIGI, and the FLDIGI
window appears, N1MM goes into lockup mode. I am using COM6 in SMARTCAT as the
radio interface for N1MM, and it connected just fine before I began configuring
the digital part. Thinking that I needed a separate CAT interface for FLDIGI,
I added COM7, and specified that in FLDIGI. Standalone it runs just fine. But
it completely locks up N1MM.

I’ve dumped it and reinstalled more than 3 times tonight.

Has anyone tried another method than what I am using?

FLEX 6700, SMARTSDR 1.7.30, WIN 7 Home, completely up to date since I had to
reinstall all the updates and it took more than 24 hours for everything to
download and settle.

Thanks

I have a like new 1500 that needs a new home. Comes with the original box and
nothing else, unfortunately, which is the way I bought it at the Shelby Hamfest
about 3 years ago. I am the 2nd owner, and it hasn’t been on the air more than
twice since I bought it, so it’s time for it to go. I had it up and running at

I’m going to put this on eBay if no one on the list is interested. They seem
to be going for $1,100 to $1,250 bare bones. I purchased this one new several
years ago and it has been to Field Day once, out for another activity a few
times and is mint. S/N 0610-0457. Will come with a 2 foot Granite Digital
fireware cable and power cable. $1,075 firm and I will pay shipping to CONUS.
Alaska or Hawaii will need some extra shipping, no non-US sales.

Please respond off list to wa4...@arrl.net if you are

Well, looks like no one is interested.

Price lowered to $1575, same terms. I’m going to post this on the community
reflector as well, and if no interest if a few more days, I put it on eBay.

I tested the radio and all works nicely.

[Flexradio] Why not a "best guess" on ship dates?

2013-06-19 Thread Gordon P. Howell, Jr.
I've been looking at all the comments from people, some saying their radios are
going to ship, others just wondering if they ever will. I fall into the second
category. I had hoped my 6700 would be here in time for FD, but in looking at
the order numbers received so far, I am at least 150 away, despite having
gotten on the signature list on May 22, 2012. My number is 3790.

Perhaps Tim or one of the Flex folks could comment on why there cannot be some
sort of listing, perhaps by by invoice number, or perhaps just noting that the
next XXX radios that SHOULD ship by XX date and note that the list is subject
to change.

I am not asking for anything set in concrete just an estimate so I might make
arrangements to be at home when Matt calls. Or perhaps the notification method
is backwards, send me an email so that I don't have to be sitting on the
keyboard at just the right time to get notified. I CAN call you back. Or,
with your email confirmation I can call the credit card company and make the
necessary arrangements on receipt.

I don't want to sound like I am throwing any rocks at Flex, I am a fully
committed user with 1500, 3000, and 5000 radios in my shack. Flex is a unique
company in this day and age and I have been impressed both with the engineering
and the customer service. I can understand the difficulty in ramping up a new
production item, however I think FlexRadio needs to be a bit more sensitive to
those of use who are still waiting and have been for more than a year. Without
the loyal customer base that they have, sales would not be so great, so please,
guys, take a little time to give many of us a rough idea of when we might
expect to get excited.

Perhaps that is too much to ask with everything else going on in Texas, but it
sure would be nice to have a firmer idea when the tunnel will end. I know you
are concerned that such a list would cause people to get even more riled up
when you didn't make a proposed date, but I think that just saying what I have
noted above would be somewhat comforting and not likely to generate a storm of
calls and emails over and above what you are already getting.

This wait process is at least as bad as the other one that I am in the middle
of -- a call from the University of Virginia Transplant Center notifying me
that they have a liver for me and get my backside moving North -- NOW! Still
waiting on that one too…

Thanks for listening Tim, Greg, Gerald, Matt and all the rest.

[Flexradio] Flex 5000A sidebands reversed?

2012-12-11 Thread Gordon P. Howell, Jr.
Has anyone had the situation where upper sideband button is apparently lower
and lower is upper? I loaded 2.5.3 today with no errors and when I brought up
the radio, it became apparent that the sideband buttons (and that's all of
them, CW,Digital, any that use sideband as opposed to AM or DSB) were reversed.
I ran 2.4 and the radio exhibited the same behavior.

This 5000 is a newer one that I bought from another list member to use in a
club contest station and it has not been on air since Field Day. I sold my
original one and am using this one until the 6700 is released. The other one
did not have this issue with 2.4.

Sort of bizarre. Anybody got any ideas about how to fix this problem?

Thanks

[Flexradio] Flex 5000A for sale

2012-12-05 Thread Gordon P. Howell, Jr.
I want to sell one of my Flex 5000's to help pay for the 6000 series radio I
have on order.

This is my original Flex purchase from June of 2009, and has been used twice
for Field Day, the rest of the time in my non-smoking shack. It is in
excellent condition. It has the 2nd receiver and automatic tuner. I will ship
it with power cord and a FireWire cable in the original shipping box with the
original set up manual that came with it. I am running it with the 2.4.4
software/firmware without any issues.

Asking $2,350 for the package and I will cover the first $25 of shipping in the
continental US. Buyer needs to pay any additional shipping. If you are close
by, I would be willing to meet at a location within 50 miles of my home, may be
less expensive than shipping costs. I will not ship overseas.

Please contact me off list if you are interested.

Thanks,

[Flexradio] No PTT on 5000

2012-06-22 Thread Gordon P. Howell, Jr.
Scratching my head. Bought a Heil Pro mike for the VHF station at FD, tried
out the mike through the front connector, and PTT works fine.

Moved the working mike and cable over to the other 5000 which is going to be
the phone station and have no PTT. The footswitch, which I normally use
anyway, works fine, but the front connector just doesn't work.

I reset the database, have not done a complete reset of the radio, but I guess
that is next. No PTT is not checked, All PTT is checked and the radio is not --
apparently -- in receive only mode.

Any ideas?

Re: [Flexradio] FlexMemory v2.0.1 ??

2012-01-17 Thread Gordon P. Howell, Jr.
Ray sent a reply that showed up on my email list -- here it is again

FlexMemory is an alternative memory system for PowerSDR. It communicates
with PowerSDR using CAT and provides the ability to store a nearly unlimited
number of memories. The memories can be separated into groups.

FlexMemory also allows scanning of stored memories, either all memories or a
selected group. Of course, individual memories can be locked out.

Like all of my software, FlexMemory is free (although donations are always
welcome) and can be downloaded from the Downloads page of my website. You
can also download just the user's manual to look over the software before
you download/install it.

Re: [Flexradio] Worst case scenario

2011-11-24 Thread Gordon P. Howell, Jr.
In 1979 I built a Ferguson BigBoard, CPM machine with (gasp) 64K of memory. I
also built a power supply protection circuit with solid state relays that would
turn off the supply if it was missing a voltage -- board required +5, +-12 and
+24 for the 8 inch floppy drives. BG Micro had such a supply, so that's what I
used.

Not being the finest builder -- and all this system was bare board, no such
thing as Antec at that time, finally found a case for the board and both
drives, but the power supply was external -- I had a mess of wires so I decided
to neaten things up. Disconnected the PS cabling, neatened, re-routed and
reconnected. Boy, it looked nice. Turned it on and it immediately turned off.
Hmmm. What could be wrong. Tried stuff, none of which involved verifying
where the power leads were going. Finally decided that my protection circuit
had gone bad, took it out of circuit, plugged the supply back in and watched
smoke rise from the cabinet. When you reverse all the power leads on the
output strip and apply plus 12 to the minus 12 bus, it does nasty things,
especially to that expensive memory.

I found a deal on a populated Xerox 820 with all important 4116's (memory) in
sockets for only a bit more than the cost of the memory chips and ordered from
BG Micro, but only after the new stuff was enroute did I discover that the
smoke got let out of a couple of tantalum capacitors -- my original memory was
fine after changing out the caps. But it was too late to send the parts back,
so that was how I ended up with the second single board computer. Xerox bought
the rights from Ferguson and marketed the 820 for a short period of time. A
change in the ROMS on the board made it think it was the original BigBoard.

Ah, the good old days…

[Flexradio] Field Day...again

2011-06-27 Thread Gordon P. Howell, Jr.
Wow, what a weekend. The bands were great. The Flex 3000 was great. The
Flexcontrol was even greater!! And the weather here in Central VA was
absolutely wonderful, low humidity and reasonable temps.

Thanks Stu and everyone who developed and made the FlexControl available. It
is a terrific add on.

This was the best operation out of the three that our club has done with the
Flex in the phone position. With everything carefully grounded and only a few
chokes in use, we had no computer issues at all, except when somebody failed to
follow instructions and entered a callsign into the radio GUI. Oh, and when
the one op pulled power off the Flex when he got out of the operating chair
there was some furor created but it got fixed.

Which brings me to a feature request that may be easy for you software guys, or
very hard to do, or not possible. Could a button have the option ot turning on
the point and shoot crosshairs on the radio GUI, so that the crosshairs are
controlled by the FlexControl, and another button click to change frequency to
the desired spot? Another click would be needed to turn it off and go back to
normal operation. While I think this is something that many would use as a
part of PowerSDR, it could also be a ddUtil function, if that is easier to do.
Or perhaps there is already a combination of CAT controls that could be
combined into a macro to do this function. I haven't looked at the CAT list to
see, will do that.

I found that almost all the focus issues were caused by an op using point and
click and forgetting to go back to N1MM to log the contact. If that function
could be available on the FlexControl, I think all of us would benefit.

Thanks to the Flex team for all the work. BTW, was running RC3 for the entire
contest without a software glitch, mostly phone with a little RTTY thrown into
the mix.
