[Flexradio] Flex 5000 support
Hi, I saw this ad on QRZ. http://forums.qrz.com/showthread.php?403443-Tech-special-flex-radio-systems-flex-5000a It seems to indicate that Flex will no longer support/repair a 5000. Is this correct? If so that sure isn't my idea of taking care of customers. Re: [Flexradio] Flex 5000A and RFI
I think the idea with the inverter technology compressors is that they vary the compressor speed to maintain the temperature instead of cycling the compressor on and off. The Mitsubishi unit I have runs the fan continuously and the compressor drops to very low speed to maintain temperature. It's how they are able to achieve 20+ SEER ratings. I have two of the Mitsubishi split heat pump/AC units installed in the building with my shack. I tried turning them on and off and can't see any difference in noise levels. Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Manual
I must be missing something here. I've owned my Flex Radio for one week. I question the fact I can't seem to find any documentation that is reasonably current and the answer is...write it myself? Jon...kf2e -Original Message- From: Duane Reese Sent: Sunday, May 26, 2013 12:08 PM To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Manual Jon/George, As Neal said he is always glad to have volunteers to help with the WIKI. As for the manual, all the updates have errata lists and it should be an fairly easy task to take these lists and incorporate them in the manual and the WIKI. A good community project would be to make a list of all the errata and then ask for help in incorporating them into the current manual. I f one of you take the organization and management of this project I would be glad to help with one or two of the errata lists. Breaking it up would get other volunteers and you could coordinate and collate all the responses into a update? Re: [Flexradio] Owners Manual
Yes, the documentation is really poor. Not only are their documents all dated, even the online resources give the appearance of neglect. It must impact on the number of support requests they get. For a radio that is computer centric most of the computer info on the site is out of date as well. I looked for the fireware cards on their recommended list from 2008 and none of them are still available. [Flexradio] Owners Manual
Is there a newer version of the owners manual for the 5000 than the v2.0 on the Flex website? It's almost three years old and I'm sure there have been many changes. Re: [Flexradio] The Dirty Little Secret of Firmware
The issue with flex radios as they currently exist isn't that you won't be able to get a case if you somehow destroy yours. It's that Flex will stop supporting the software. If the software isn't actively developed it will soon not run on current computer technology. What happens when Microsoft drops support for firewire? What happens when today's version of PowerSDR won't run on Windows 10? Will Flex still rewrite it? That's where the obsolescence with a computer dependent radio comes in. Will we all keep old computers and operating systems around so we can still use our PowerSDR based radios? This is my worry. I believe the Signature series overcomes this somewhat by moving the computer back into the radio and making it browser based. [Flexradio] Newbie Follow-up
Guys, Several people have responded telling me the 5000s are still available. Maybe I'm missing something but when I click on the buy link for any of the 5000 versions it says "Not for sale". It doesn't seem to me that going into Dayton they would say not for sale unless they were discontinuing them. That is what has me worried about buying into old technology. Maybe I'm just paranoid? or missing something? [Flexradio] Newbie Question
Hi, I'm new to the group and pretty new to flex. I have a 1500 that I have had for a couple months and have had a really good time with it. In fact, I've had it long enough that I would like to upgrade. This brings me to my dilemma. I can't really afford the new 6700 and was at first looking at the 5000. Then I noticed they no longer seem to be available from Flex. I looked and it seems they are still selling the 3000 but I'm wondering for how long. I'm worried that since they have completely changed the way the software works with the 6000 series that the 3000 is soon to be obsolete as well. Has Flex addressed this at all? DO they provide any sort of road map for their product development? Finally, can anyone offer me any advice? Thanks, Jon...kf2e ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/
