[Flexradio] article on agc
Hi Bob, Eric and Gerald, I am writing an article about the nature of SDR-1000 and the philosophy behind FlexRadioSystems i.e. to offer the software to everyone, the contributions the users provide in describing what they want or even augmenting the coding and so on. A good example is the AGC. I will refer to Phil's concept (which has a significant educational value) and describe the implementation in PowerSDR. For this step I ask for your help. I don't want to show lines of codes (maybe I am wrong and you suggest to show a few decisive lines ?) but I want to describe where the processing takes place. I want to draw a pictureshowing the structure of the software - the "digital signal chain" from the mic to the soundsystem output. Can you please provide some information to make this happen? Thanks a lot. Have a nice weekend and a successful townhall meeting! vy 73 - Klaus, DK7XL

[Flexradio] Forum In German Language
Dear friends, this message is dedicated to our German SDR-1000 community. We should reestablish the German forum and I amseeking for some comments to implement improvementsduring that process.
[Flexradio] Preview 4 WAVE recorder
The WAVE recorder is just wonderful - during our exhibition in Hannover this weekend hams got deeply impressed by the radio from listening to the wave-files. However, transmitting causes trouble: the signal pickup up in TX-mode from the prerecorded baseband is just 11 KHz b e l o w the signal that should be sent - 11 kHz sounds familiar ... it's the offset of our radio in the RX chain. The retransmitted spectrumlooks compressed over frequency at the display - Idiscovered this by observing thereduced shift from a teletyper (factor 2 or 3). I verified this with Heino, DJ5ER, with his SDR-1000. Delta44; 3-board-stack 73's to all of you - Klaus, DK7XL
Re: [Flexradio] PowerSDR Beta v1.4.5 Preview 2
Mike, Bob and Eric, thanks for the information, Mike.My software is running now (with a little trick regarding the absence of the RFE-board) - however only with the Delta44. On my LaptopPowerSDR is not working withExtigy when ASIO is selected by default. With MME or WDM it runs (option unsupported soundcard). A friend of mine (DJ5ER) made the same experience using SB live!24bit - it also refuses to run with ASIO under Preview 2. 73 - Klaus, DK7XL mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]schrieb:On29Oct200510:22GMT,Klaus_LohmannwroteEric,Bobandothers,firstofallthanksfortheverypromisingnewfeaturesinthenewrelease.Thanksforgrowinguptheincorporatedtestfacilities!IlovetheseBITEfeatures...IcanconfirmandenforcethestatementfromMike:1)TXbyPTTrunsonetime.RecoverytoRXcausesfailuremessage.PlayingwithMON/MOXbringsuptheRXagain.PTTthennolongeroperative.TXwithMOXpossiblebutunstable.RecoveryfromTUNtoRXnotpossibleexceptthroughshutdowntostby.2)SwitchingfromPANADAPTERtoSPECandbacktoanyMODEshowsadisplaysimilartoTX(Iassumeit'stheSPECTRUMdisplaynarroweddowntothePANADAPTERspan)3)Importingthedatabasefrom1.4.5.rel.1causesthesameproblemswithfrequenciesbelow3.775MHzthanbefore.4)DSPbuffersizeisgreyedoutAllobservationsmadewithbothdesktopandlaptop.73-Klaus,DK7XLMike,thisisBETAsoftware-inthisstageourtaskistohelptheprogrammers(likeamidwife)duringthebirthofnewsoftware...andIamsureyourcontributionswilldoso.mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]schrieb:ProblemwithnewBetap2Everythingseemstoworkokbutwhenitransmitteitherwithmypushtotalkswitchorusethemoxeverythingworksgreatthefirsttimeiuseit,thenthenexttimeitransmittihavenooutputonmywattmeter,thoughtmywattmeterwasactingupsochangeditout.Nohelpifireloadp2ittransmittthefirsttimeagainandthennothing.Welltheniloadedupmyotherversionsofthesdrandtheyworkfine.Theconsoleshowsitisputingoutpowerandthepanadaperisshowingithasaudiobutitdoesntreallyputout.Anyhelpwouldbegreat.mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]MIKE___FlexRadiomailinglistmailto:FlexRadio@flex-radio.bizhttp://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.bizKlaus,IuninstalledmyAudigy2zssoundcardandputaDelta44cardinandthetransmitproblemwentaway.Dontknowwhatwaswrongwiththeaudigysoundcarditriedtwodifferentaudigy2cardsanduninsalledandreloadingthedrivers.didnotchangeanythingbutputindelta44card,samehardwareandsoftware.alsosameaudiocables.3.00processorandgigofmemoryMikemailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]MIKE
Re: [Flexradio] 1.4.5 START-UP UNHANDLED EXCEPTION
Phil, Bob and Eric, here is another observation that might help to find a solution: Iuse the 3-board-stack. When I configure for a system with RFE-board I can start and shutdown the console without problems. However, when I disable the RFE board in the General Tab to cheat the system (RX is operational this way) - then the well known message appears after restart. I assume you have the 3-board-stack configuration as well. So - before you shutdown the console change the hardware configuration: activate the RFE-board. 73 - Klaus, DK7XL "PhilipM.Lanese"mailto:[EMAIL

Re: [Flexradio] PowerSDR Beta v1.4.5 Preview 2
Eric, Boband others, first of all thanks for the very promising new features in the new release. Thanks for growing up the incorporated test facilities! I love these BITEfeatures ... I can confirm and enforce the statement from Mike: 1) TX by PTT runs one time. Recovery to RX causes failure message. Playing with MON/MOX brings up the RX again. PTT then no longer operative. TX with MOX possible but unstable. Recovery from TUN to RX not possible except through shutdown to stby. 2) Switching from PANADAPTER to SPEC and back to any MODE shows a display similar to TX (I assumeit's the SPECTRUM display narrowed down to the PANADAPTER span) 3) Importing the database from 1.4.5. rel.1 causes the same problems with frequencies below 3.775 MHz than before. 4) DSP buffer size is greyed out All observations made with both desktop and laptop. 73 - Klaus, DK7XL Mike, this is BETA software - in this stage our task is to help the programmers (like a midwife) during the birth of new software ... and I am sure your contributions will do so. mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]schrieb:ProblemwithnewBetap2Everythingseemstoworkokbutwhenitransmitteitherwithmypushtotalkswitchorusethemoxeverythingworksgreatthefirsttimeiuseit,thenthenexttimeitransmittihavenooutputonmywattmeter,thoughtmywattmeterwasactingupsochangeditout.Nohelpifireloadp2ittransmittthefirsttimeagainandthennothing.Welltheniloadedupmyotherversionsofthesdrandtheyworkfine.Theconsoleshowsitisputingoutpowerandthepanadaperisshowingithasaudiobutitdoesntreallyputout.Anyhelpwouldbegreat.mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]MIKE___FlexRadiomailinglistmailto:FlexRadio@flex-radio.bizhttp://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz

[Flexradio] Sympathy
Dear friends in the United States, the SDR-1000 is a real adventure mostly driven by you folks over there in the US. I hesitate to continue normal daily routine with SDR stuff without expressing my deep sympathy for your people in the devastating zone in the Gulf region. The pictures we see via CNN are heart breaking. We hope all the displaced people are getting relief soon. Your country is known in Europe for your strong will and your boldness, for your charity and readiness to help whereever it's needed - now on your own soil. I talked this morning with Heino, DJ5ER, about SDR topics and we both felt to express our sympathy prior coming back to our wonderful center of grvity in ham radio - the SDR-1000. Re: [Flexradio] SDR EuroNET proposal
Hi Beppe and others, again thanks to Beppe for his initiative. Our German NET on Sunday at 3777.000kHz may be a little bit to early for traffic troughout Europe. If Sunday is preferred we could start the EuroNET an hour later at 18:00 UTC - the QRG is by than warmed up through the German NET. I am sure my German friends would be pleased to continue an hour later with the EuroNet. However, for me any day except Friday and Thursday would be fine. Of course any frequency as well - I am sure we will adjust time and QRG to conditions and traffic after a while. Dale's suggestion is great - this will enhance comfort and reliability as well. 73 - Klaus, DK7XL Giuseppe Campana [EMAIL PROTECTED] schrieb: SDR Friends, thanks all for reply. I did not know of the existence of the German NET on 3777Khz at Sundays 17.00 UTC, created by the friend Klaus DK7XL., good idea could be to join this group with the permission of the Grerman friends of course, because the language switch to English. Other idea is for a Tuesday 20:00 UTC, the QRG will be around 3710Khz, this time is good for middle Europe skip. Other great idea (TNX to Dale WA8SRA) is to create a NET support on HAMSDR website, for indications for Time / QRG / Band condition with a real time user list. Welcome all for all idea ! N0UU ___ FlexRadio mailing list FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Hi Lawrence and others, thanks for the information about the RadCom TT article. I was disappointed about the specualtions of the author and wrote the following letter to the editors: +++ Dear Editors, the author of the topic technical topics - caveat emptor wrote, that it would be interesting to hear from anyone who has been an early purchaser of SDR-1000 and their experience. I got the boards from FlexRadio Systems, Austin, TX, USA by October 2003. Since that time I am operating the radio on a daily basis, mainly on the low bands. I beefing it up with 100W PA and I am using different soundcards (both PCI and USB-type). Since working with SDR-1000 i.e. experimenting with the hardware and dozens of upgrades in software I discovered again the excitement of amateur radio and I enjoy being part of a community that is paving new roads to wireless communication. Your article and comments obviously totally misunderstand the nature of the SDR-1000. There is an important difference between Companies like Yaesu, Kenwood, ICOM, TenTec and so one, just to name a few of them. Indeed, here one should consider the framework you are mentioning (Buying and Selling of Equipment - TT August 2004). The nature of SDR-1000 and the business philosophy of FlexRadio (so far as I understand them) is different: Firstly, the radio is not off-the-shelf-equipment that can be operated without going into technical details. FlexRadio is offering his customers to purchase hardware from a bare system up to a complete set of additional equipment (100W PA; ATU) to take part in the development of Software Defined Radio. Having said this, secondly - a logical consequence is the nature of the software being distributed and used under the regime of GNU - General Public License. FlexRadio is sharing everything with its customers (and non-customers!) - I haven't heard about this business culture from any other company in wireless communication. In the light of this completely unique framework after sale service is provided by different means. I have not heard from anyone who complained not to receive spare parts or getting warranty service if necessary. More than ordinary after sale service is available through the Internet (and not by a permanent overcommitted hot-line). In a special forum and by a so called e-mail reflector the user community is in permanent conversation with FlexRadio and the user community to solve installation or operating problems (and successes) thus being a real part of the development team. Highly professional software engineers from FlexRadio Systems are getting permanent feedback from the user/customer - who often are highly skilled persons donating their great ideas and contributions generously. To my knowledge unprecedented in the development and after sale service of wireless communication equipment the users are asked by polls sometimes how to design and advance in software revision. The user community is truly part of the system. This is modern ham radio using state of the art techniques at its best. The electronic parts being used in the SDR-1000 hardware aren't exotic at all. I blew up the FET-switches in the QSD/QSE and the audio amplifier ICs - and got my replacement for a few Euro in Europe. At present FlexRadio is preparing an upgrade to enhance RX performance. This is in line with the engineering change orders (ECO) the users could adhere to in the past two years. Let me sum up: Your comments regarding SDR-1000 cannot be justified nor are they fair. SDR-1000 is a different approach to ham radio technically speaking and what is most important: FlexRadio Systems is establishing a totally different relationship to the users/customers exceeding everything that could be addressed when asking for after-sale-service or warranty. It is true when FlexRadio Systems advertises the SDR-1000: The Radio That Keeps Getting Better! ... + 73's - Klaus Lohmann, DK7XL
