Com0Com works with Windows 10 you just need to use the unsigned earlier
version, not the latest release. I installed it on two machines after
moving Windows 10.

Are there any flexers living to meet during my vacations?
Are there any possibilities to make a cw QSO from there to DL?

 That would be great!

Jim,

You need to send Flex your Mars license and they will provide you with the
patch and instructions on installation. The help ticket is the starting
point, don't know why your getting random characters on that. I have a Flex

First, I'd submit a help ticket but I can't read any of the darned
 scrambled characters to sign-up.

Second, while my primary use of my Flex-3000 is amateur radio, I am also a
member of our state's emergency services, and with that we have both MARS,
State and Federal HF allocations (and licenses) I would like to be able to
use SSB and ultimately PC-ALE methods.? Technically possible of course,
except that of course I can only access those frequencies in
 SWL/receive-only mode.

Is there accommodation/firmware for non-ham applications?? If so, how can
 I obtain that?

 Jim -

Yes there is, and you need to work with Flex Support to get it. It will be
in the form of a small software utility keyed to your specific 3000. Of
course, Flex has to verify you licenses. If have seen mention of the
details, but don't remember much, other that Flex builds it for you
 specific radio.

[Flexradio] CWskimmer and Flex 5000A

2013-11-14 Thread Larry Bryan
I'm looking for some feedback from those of you who have been/are running
CWskimmer. I asked this question of the author but got pointed back to this
community.

First, I'm new with this program and have only been using it for the past
week or so but it has proven valuable for working though the T33A/K9W/XR0ZR
pileups. However I don't understand something on the operation.

Having tuned the CW station properly so that his signal is visible in the
middle of the green filter bar, I pull the ruler down so that the green
bar is at the bottom of the waterfall window. Now going to split mode I
wait for an indication of who the DX station is working and the click on
the station to get the proper split.

This works properly, but why does the green filter bar move from it's
previous location at the bottom to somewhere up the screen? The receive
frequency in the window stays correct, VFO(B) changes to the proper split
and I work the guy, but it's confusing to have this bar moving all over the
waterfall.

I thought it was because I was using VAC2 so I created a profile for VAC1
but it does the same thing. Can someone explain?

Settings are:
SoftRock-IF
Sample Rate 96khz
CW pitch 600
Audio IF 9600
Soundcard WDM
Channels Left/Right =I/Q
0 Samples

[Flexradio] CWSkimmer

2013-11-06 Thread Larry Bryan
I decided to try CW Skimmer with my Flex 5K I have read the postings on the
Flex site as well as those provided by Afreet software. I got it working in
the 3-Khz mode and then moved on to the SoftRock-IF mode.

The issue I have is that the CW Skimmer waterfall and the Flex 5k
panadapter do not follow each other in frequency. I had a CW signal tuned
in on the Flex at 600hz but the CW skimmer display had nothing at that
frequency.

The other issue was I had VAC1 set for Fldigi using MME VAC Lines 1 and
line 2 I have the skimmer set up for direct I/Q WDM-KS VAC lines 3 and 4. I
wanted to be able to run both at the same time.

CAT is working. Since I'm new to this I'm looking for suggestions.

Re: [Flexradio] CWSkimmer

2013-11-06 Thread Larry Bryan
Hi Ron, Jerry and Bill,

Thanks for the input. I'm continuing to work with the program, but there is
some interaction with the second receiver in my Flex 5K. For example, I
tuned in WWV 10khz and set both receivers to that frequency. Then I moved
receiver A to 24.899 and shut down RX2. The skimmer however still had WWV's
pattern on the waterfall. RX2 was still set to 10khz and even though it was
off, it was still sending to CWS. Not until I set RX2 to the same as RX1
did I loose the WWV pattern. This is why I'm not seeing signals where the
are supposed to be I think

I do have Spur Reduction off and I have the I/Q boxes check per the
instructions. I again read through the posting on the Flex site as to the
settings. The big difference is that in that example VAC1 is set for CWS
and I/Q. Here I have VAC1 set for normal use and VAC2 set for CWS or I/Q
direct.

Still searching for answers.

I do not have any issue with VAC 4.13. Your issue may be the way that
your cables are set up. There is a registry file that you can download
and use to define 7 VAC cablesfor VAC 4.13
 http://support.flex-radio.com/Downloads.aspx?id=396

The reason for 7 cables is that if you have a 1500 and an 5000+RX2 you
can use up to 6 VAC cables at the same time.

The 7th cable is for PCs that do nothave a sound card or you have it
disabled in the BIOS. Windows will designate a sound device as the
default and you do NOT want any of your radio digital mode VAC cables
designated as the default. So the 7th one is added as a dummy sound
device so you can make it the default and never have to worry about
Windows mucking with your VAC cables.

(snip)I wonder sometimes what motive some people
have in spreading rumors like that.

Gerald

Out of all the lists I'm a member of, this one is particularly bad at the
rumor mill. Maybe because of the investment in the radio, people get their
kicks in raising the blood pressure of those who own the product. It gets
old really and if not for wanting to keep up with things that may pertain
to my 5K, I would probably dump the list. I changed to digest mode some
time ago when another fire drill was causing tons of email. Maybe you could
start a Flex Rumor list so these people can vent elsewhere!

 John,

That is a patently false statement. We will continue to service all of our
radios Al's long as it is practical to do so. We continue to repair the
SDR-1000 both in the USA and EU. That radio was designed over 10 years ago
and ceased production in 2006. I wonder sometimes what motive some people
have in spreading rumors like that.

[Flexradio] Transmit Profile Index

2013-08-22 Thread Larry Bryan
Is there a way to organize the transmit profiles? By that I mean changing
their position in the list. When I create a new profile or want to replace
one already in the list, they go to the bottom and screw up my macros which
are pointing to a specific index number. Is this something that can be done
with one of K9DUR's applications?

[Flexradio] CW Skimmer Question

2012-10-03 Thread Larry Bryan
I just downloaded CW Skimmer to see what this program is about. I set up
the program Radio tab as SoftRock-IFand the PowerSDR VAC1 I check both
boxes in the Direct I/Q option. However this morning, I found that this
kills the audio to my other programs using VAC. Since I'm new at this can
someone tell me what I have set wrong? I can't use DM780 for CW because I
have no waterfall. As soon as I change another profile, things are back to
normal.

Using PSDR 2.4.4 Windows7 Pro 32 bit windows driver on VAC1 is WDM-KS

[Flexradio] Play Button

2012-07-11 Thread Larry Bryan
I had not tried the record feature until last night while trying to chase
down RF in my audio. I discovered that while I could record, the play
button was not doing anything. Has this be disabled or is there some
process to use the play button.

I've been using Audacity to play the quick file. Also is there a way to
change the storage location of this PSDR audio file?

[Flexradio] RF on Heil Pro Set Elite

2012-07-10 Thread Larry Bryan
I was reading the information on the modification to the Yeasu cable for
the Heil Microphone's. So I pulled apart my Heil Yeasu cable and I see
there are shields on both pin 7 and pin 5. However with this headset I
obviously have no connector at the microphone to use the cut off wire that
is supposed to be inside the cable.

Is anyone using this Heil model with the Flex or do you have any input on
any change to the connector for this headset? I didn't have RF issues with
the Kenwood TS-480HX but I can see and hear the issues on the Flex.

I'm trying to get my Ameritron ALS-1300 on the air, but with the RF it's
almost useless.

[Flexradio] Heil Pro Set Elite and 5K

2012-06-16 Thread Larry Bryan
While in Dayton I stopped at the Heil booth to obtain an adapter for the
5K. I have been using the headset/mic with my Kenwood. Today for the first
time, I plugged the adapter into the radio, attached the headset and hand
remote keyer. The headset works but my hand keyer will not key the radio
and I'm not sure the mic is working either.

Anyone out there have this similar setup that can share some information.
I'm in the final stages of transistion from the Kenwood to the FLEX and
need to get this solved.

[Flexradio] Looking for help on interface between 5K and SteppIR control

2012-06-07 Thread Larry Bryan
At Dayton I purchased the DB18E SteppIR antenna and the SDA100 control
panel. During the purchase I was asked about the interface cable between
the 5000A or PSDR and the SDA100. Of course not having any chance to use
the new radio I was not equipped to answer that and SteppIR was not sure
either. So after the purchase I walked over to the Flex booth and discussed
with people there. It was difficult to obtain an answer as there were tons
of people all trying to get a look at the new radio or discuss something
about their radio.

I'm looking for someone to point me in the right direction. I took from the
conversation at Dayton that I may only need a serial cable to the computer
and DDUtil to accomplish this. I would hope someone on this forum has gone
down this path and may be willing to assist this newbe.

 Don,

You are correct. FlexEdge is the appropriate place for discussions about
 the FLEX-6000 series radios.

I would like to request everyone move those discussions there so that this
forum can cover all of the other radios.

 Thanks,

 Ron,

I also agree that it will be a great radio and I am happy that there is all
of this enthusiasm. What I would personally would like to see is a separate
group for discussion of these new products.

We all still own the now mature legacy radios and it seems a shame to have
the forums burying any 5000,3000 or 1500 question, comment or concerns.

I agree that the 6xxx discussion should flow, maybe just not on this group.

That is my two cents and my vote.

My actual suggestion would be to have a group called Flexradio5000a,
Flexradio3000 etc. so that you could parse out the email for that specific
platform or have live chat on the Flex website for any specific radios.
 That
would keep a few people busy.

 My two cents.

 Frustrated but dedicated Flex owner.

The 6000 will be a great radio. It will be the be all and end all for
 those
that can afford it. It will top the Sherwood list. It will be the envy of
 the competition.

But with all due respect, let's talk about something even more important...

When will PowerSDR 2.4 be released? Any sneak peeks?
