[Flexradio] Mute doesn't work with VAC
With my 5K I'm using VAC to route audio to my onboard sound card. I have the powered speakers connected to line-out on the sound card. Am doing this in order to hear audio from both the 5K and from online streaming (YouTube, etc). It works just fine except for one thing: the Mute button on the console doesn't work (which doesn't surprise me). Is there another way to obtain the Mute function (short of hitting the Stop button)? I guess I could forget about VAC and run a cable from the 5K speaker output to line-in on the sound card, but would prefer to keep using VAC. [Flexradio] Any way to fiddle with PA bias settings?
In performing some two-tone tests at different power levels on my 5k I've discovered some interesting things concerning IMD products. Using the BITE utility I can measure bias currents for both the driver and PA Final, but do not see any way of changing them. (BTW, my PA bias is nominally 2.3A which seems high to me, however I seem to remember Tim saying that it has been increased to "improve voice quality"). Anyway, I'd like to experiment with different bias levels. Is there a way to do that? 73, Rod KQ6F ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/
Re: [Flexradio] Must turn on PSDR twice
I too have this problem. I believe it's related to the default Sample Rate that comes up on startup in Flexradio Global Settings (blue icon on the desktop). If the default doesn't match the sample rate last used in the main program (in Setup/Audio), it takes two starts to get them in sync. In my case I always run at 96k but the default in Global Settings frequently (but not always) comes up 48k. Then it takes two starts. If the default comes up 96k it takes only one start. I'm running W7. Don't know if that has anything to do with it. I've mentioned this before to Flex Support but apparently they don't see this happening in the lab. 73, Rod KQ6F ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/
[Flexradio] v2.3.5 and W7?
I had trouble installing v2.0.22 on my W7 machine (late model i5 core, "right" Firewire card, etc). Neal Campbell had to finally bail me out by taking over my machine via TeamViewer and working his magic. I still don't know exactly what he did - it all went so fast. Re: [Flexradio] [Flex radio] Power up problem
The 48K sampling rate shown in the Firewire control panel is the default setting on power up. PowerSDR, during the initialization, will instruct the the Firewire driver to re-set the sampling rate to the one configured in Setup. We have seen occurrences where this communication between PowerSDR and the radio does not complete properly resulting in the behavior. We have notified the developer of the Firewire driver of this problem and hopefully it will be resolved in a future release of the driver. -TimTim -If the sampling rate in the Firewire control panel was STORED instead of defaulting to 48K every time, wouldn't that resolve the problem?Rod, KQ6F ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/
Re: [Flexradio] [Flex radio] Power up problem
Tim - This startup problem occurs immediately after my machine is booted up, so there's no opportunity for hibernation. Also my power management is set to High Performance. The problem seems to be caused by initial difference between the default sample rate in Flex Radio Global Settings (48K) vs the 96K I've selected in PSDR. It takes two startup tries for them to get "in sync". If instead of 96K I select 48K in PSDR, there's no problem and it starts up on the first try. Am running W7, 64 bit. There are at least two others having the same (or similar) problem, so it's not just me. 73, Rod ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/

Jim - You didn't mention your sample rate but am guessing it's more than 48K. I run 96K and have the same problem as you. [Flexradio] 5K PA and Driver bias readings
I have the preliminary 2007-2008 service manual for the 5K and am running the BITE tests. It states that the bias currents for the driver and PA should be 200 ma and 1.4A, respectively. The actual values I'm getting are considerably higher than that: 1.0A and 2.264A(nominal). These values are confirmed with an ammeter placed in series with the +13.8v power supply. Am guessing they are correct and that they've been intentionally increased since the original service manual was published. Is this the case? [Flexradio] Fault trouble with Alpha 8410
Am having problems operating a SDR-1000 in ESSB mode into my new Alpha 8410. The amp frequently faults on voice peaks in spite of a much reduced drive level. I looked at my peak power into the amp using a fast peak-reading wattmeter (LP100A). Most of the time the power peaks are in the 10-15 watt range, but on some words the peaks are much higher, 30-40 watts. I turned up the mic gain to get 0 dB ALC readings and turned down the drive to compensate, thinking that would resolve the problem. It helped but didn't completely do the trick. Next I decreased the ALC attack time to 1 ms. That doesn't help either, nor does changing the ALC Decay and Hang times. The Alpha fault-detection circuits are very fast acting. I complained to them about it, but to no avail. They seem to think it should be that way. As a matter of personal preference, am running an earlier version of PSDR (v. 1.12.1). Eric Wachsmann FlexRadio Systems "*Tune in Excitement!" ^(TM)* On Mon, May 4, 2009 at 5:45 PM, Ray Andrews wrote: Stig, You may have misinterpreted the FLEX-3000 specifications. The spec says, "Flat Response 10 Hz to 3.650 KHz (SSB)". This means that the audio response is flat within that range and no guarantees are made outside of that range. It does not mean that the TX audio is limited to 3.65 kHz. The actual transmit filter width that can be set is entirely controlled by the software. Therefore, it is the same for the FLEX-3000 as it is for the SDR-1000 and the FLEX-5000. If you increase the transmit filter width to greater than about 3.1 kHz, the software will give you a warning about compliance with all applicable rules & regulations. However, you can ignore the warning and increase the filter width to whatever you desire. The Federal Communications Commission, the government agency that regulates the Amateur Radio Service in the United States, has recently ruled that ESSB is "not in accordance with good amateur and engineering practice" on the crowded HF bands. Therefore, US amateurs are not supposed to use ESSB on HF.
