I'm like you Dan, sometimes I want to listen to a 2khz or wider swath
for weak sigs.  I temporarily click it into ssb, take a listen.  If I
hear something I want to check out, I adjust the frequency as required
to get it into the range of my 600 hz pitch, put it into cw and go from
there.

Now this is a different issue.  Thanks for
  describing it in detail.

CW filters, like DIGx filters are dependent on "center frequency.
For CW it is the Pitch Frequency (or the click tune offset for
DIGx).  The filter's low and high cut values will always auto
correct so that the the filter's center frequency is the CW pitch
frequency (or the DIGx click tune value) no mater what you set the
  high and low cut skirts.

So in the filter definition form, if you set the low and/or high
cut settings to say 1000 and 400 respectively, you are defining a
600 Hz filter 1000-400=600).  But if your CW Pitch frequency is
600 Hz, this newly defined 600 Hz filter will not have a center
frequency of 600 Hz (the pitch frequency), so PowerSDR auto
corrects the high and low cut values so that this newly created
600 Hz filters will center itself on the CW pitch frequency and
the new high/low cut values are 900 and 300 Hz.

This is the behavior you are observing.

It does not behave like this for phone modes.

I didn't know what radio you had, but that doesn't really make a
difference. 99% of PowerSDR works the same for all radios and the
information on those common features is redundant in all manuals

So for your specific radio, refer to pages 65-67
http://support.flexradio.com/Downloads.aspx?id=342

2. that is the procedure i have used for some timeand it does not
work..any more...

 since 2.0.16, anyway..

I just verified that it does indeed work with 2.0.22, 2.1.5 and 2.2.2BETA
Do a database reset and test if before importing any data. If it does
not work, then open a Helpdesk ticket (http://helpdesk.flexradio.com)
and one of the support engineers will set up a sked to do a Crossloop
session into your PC and see what the issue is.

Now this is a different issue. Thanks for describing it in detail.

So in the filter definition form, if you set the low and/or high cut

filter 1000-400=600). But if your CW Pitch frequency is 600 Hz, this
newly defined 600 Hz filter will not have a center frequency of 600 Hz
(the pitch frequency), so PowerSDR auto corrects the high and low cut
values so that this newly created 600 Hz filters will center itself on
the CW pitch frequency and the new high/low cut values are 900 and 300 Hz.

This is the behavior you are observing.

The software may eventually get there, but to really be a CW radio the
hardware has to do QSK.

Dan,

Are you right-clicking on a filter button & selecting "Configure"?

==yes==

 When you
do that, any buttons you customize using the form that appears will "stick"
between operating sessions.

==not here...change bands, modes, nearly anything...the width is
correct, but the high and low are shifted down 400 hz ( to the other side of
zero beat )

Dan,

Yes, you can re-define any of the 12 filters for each mode. Right-click on any
filter button & select "Configure" from the menu that appears. This will
display a form where you can re-define ANY of the buttons for ANY mode.

Huh? Sure they do. You can make any permanent filter you want for any mode and
it will stick around. You just have to do it for one of the fixed filter
values, not the two variable filters.

[Flexradio] Flex makes a great CW radio

2011-09-05 Thread Jeff Singer
The annoying CW sidetone "squelch tail" heard by the operator on several
bands, especially six meters, remains a significant flaw that can even be
seen on the radio's scope. Flex has acknowledged that a problem exits.

I could not be more thrilled with the new beta Tracking Notch Filter, but
Flex CW still needs work.

[Flexradio] Flex makes a great CW radio

2011-09-05 Thread W8HW
Flex makes a great CW radio. Flex has had its challenges with CW, but has
worked hard to make a top shelf unit for the number one mode. With that in
mind, an invite to anyone that loves CW. If you would like to get involved with
CW rag-chew or CW contesting, take a look at this link (below) and see if it is
something that you maybe interested in. Join us for QSO around the 28's
example 7.028, 14.028 etc. Do NOT have to be a member, just love ham radio and
CW. It is great fun and a wonderful way to increase you skills. Why not tonight?
