Thanks to everyone for the comments.

It does seem that the fluctuations in the output power meter readings are an
artefact of the sampling/averaging process that drives the meter display. I
will have a play with the multimeter options to see if there is a setting which
provides a more meaningful result when sending CW.

You can try lowering those time values and see what happens.

So, you could go to Setup | Display tab, and change the Multimeter options,

Ray hit the nail on the head. It does have to do with the sampling
cycle frequency and the RF at that point in time.

Brian,

I believe that that is normal. Without looking into the code to be certain,
I would guess that the meter samples the output at some interval & averages
the result. Depending upon how the samples line up with the cw waveform,
the average power during any one sample period will vary.

[Flexradio] FLEX-3000 FLUCTUATING CW OUTPUT POWER

2012-02-13 Thread Brian Miller
I have recently acquired a new Flex-3000 radio (running SDR v2.2.3) and have
been giving it a test drive into a dummy load. All seems well except that
the output power reading on the TX meter fluctuates from about 70W to 105W
when transmitting CW dots or dashes at 30 wpm and 100% drive. Is this degree
of fluctuation normal? Or is it an artefact of the meter design?

I note that there is no significant fluctuation when operating in the TUNE
mode or when transmitting an unmodulated AM carrier. I also note that the
problem is evident at low and high drive levels so does not seem to be
related to RFI.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks and 73, Brian VK3MI
