Re: [Flexradio] FLEX-5000 spontaneous disconnection from PC
Alan, Have you gone back to the previous firmware to see if you still have the issues? There's no problem with dropping back from version 0.1.1.2 to version 0.1.1.1 to see if that changes anything. As to Gerald's response, that was my error; I got it mixed up with something else. In any case, it did sound like a firewire issue, and it sounds like your reinstall took care of it. I'd suggest, just for kicks, trying the previous firmware version to see what happens. 73, Dale WA8SRA Alan NV8A wrote: > I didn't see a comment from Gerald, so he may have sent his message > only to you and not to the list (I hate lists where the default is to > reply to the sender rather than to the list). > > I reinstalled the FLEX-5000 driver, and now I get only the two > double-dings (instead of four) after switching on the rig, BUT I have > still encountered the spontaneous disconnects, e.g., when clicking the > 10M button while on 28.255 changed the frequency to 28.400, and at > least once while moving the mouse (actually a trackball; computer mice > are another of my pet hates) scroll wheel with steps set to a mere 1KHz. > > I think I'm going to have to reinstall Windoe from scratch anyway, > as the AUTORUNS program (mentioned in another thread) shows so much > junk, including programs and drivers that work only with the two > previous sound cards I removed. Re: [Flexradio] FLEX-5000 spontaneous disconnection from PC
I didn't see a comment from Gerald, so he may have sent his message only to you and not to the list (I hate lists where the default is to reply to the sender rather than to the list). I reinstalled the FLEX-5000 driver, and now I get only the two double-dings (instead of four) after switching on the rig, BUT I have still encountered the spontaneous disconnects, e.g., when clicking the 10M button while on 28.255 changed the frequency to 28.400, and at least once while moving the mouse (actually a trackball; computer mice are another of my pet hates) scroll wheel with steps set to a mere 1KHz. I think I'm going to have to reinstall Windoe from scratch anyway, as the AUTORUNS program (mentioned in another thread) shows so much junk, including programs and drivers that work only with the two previous sound cards I removed. One of the programs I've tried to uninstall complains that it can't find the necessary hardware; duh! that's why I'm trying to uninstall it: because the hardware is no longer there. Maybe a fresh install will take care of this FLEX problem -- although I still don't recall it happening before the firmware upgrade. 73 Alan NV8A On 10/24/07 11:32 am Dale Boresz wrote: > I agree with Gerald's comment, that it sounds like a firewire-related > issue. Re: [Flexradio] FLEX-5000 spontaneous disconnection from PC
Alan, I agree with Gerald's comment, that it sounds like a firewire-related issue. The double set of dings sounds a little suspicious, although I have on occasion heard that same thing myself but don't experience any tuning issues, so I can't say whether it has any relevance or not. You may already be doing this, but I would make certain that the Flex-5000 Control Panel (firewire driver control panel) settings are as follows: -- 'Buffer Size in Samples' should match your PowerSDR Settings > Audio > Buffer Size settings. Also, make sure that your buffer settings are not too low. They should be greater than or equal to the 'Minimum Buffer Size' setting on the firewired driver control panel. -- 'Operation Mode' should be set to 'Safe Mode Level 1' One other thought is that you should make sure that the Spur Reduction "SR" button on PowerSDR is engaged. It's my understanding that frequency changes incur much less overhead when SR is engaged. 73, Dale WA8SRA Alan NV8A wrote: > Dale: > > It took a long time to make it happen again this morning, no matter > what size tuning steps I used, but at last it happened when I clicked > the 6M button while on 60M. Re: [Flexradio] FLEX-5000 spontaneous disconnection from PC
Dale: It took a long time to make it happen again this morning, no matter what size tuning steps I used, but at last it happened when I clicked the 6M button while on 60M. But it has certainly happened sometimes when making much smaller frequency changes, e.g., within the 20M band. I don't recall that it's ever happened while using the scroll wheel with 1KHz steps. It has happened both with PowerSDR 1.10.3 and with 1.10.4 SVN1679. I have also noticed that now when I switch on the FLEX-5000 I get four sets of "dings" (whereas I think I used to get only two before); now I get low-high, low-high, pause, high-low, low-high -- as though something connects, disconnects, then reconnects. I just tried again with SVN1679 after deleting the .mdb file and found that after a few jumps around in 20M (by clicking the 20M button repeatedly but not rapidly) the FLEX-5000 disconnected. Also I noticed that when I first fired up PowerSDR after deleting the old database there was a series of rapid "double dings" -- but I can't recall the precise sequence of low-high and high-low. 73 Alan NV8A On 10/23/07 11:02 pm Dale Boresz wrote: > Which method were you using to change frequency, and how fast were you > changing frequency when this happened? Hello Alan, Which method were you using to change frequency, and how fast were you changing frequency when this happened? Were you dragging the mouse on the panadapter display, or tuning via the mouse wheel, or via the keyboard arrows, or via the Shuttle Pro? What were your tuning steps set to? 73, Dale WA8SRA Alan NV8A wrote: > I am certain that this has happened only since I installed the new > firmware that was released last weekend: > > Sometimes when I change frequency the sound will cut out and the display > will freeze, then a second or two later I will hear a "ding" as though I > had unplugged a device. [Flexradio] FLEX-5000 spontaneous disconnection from PC
I am certain that this has happened only since I installed the new firmware that was released last weekend: Sometimes when I change frequency the sound will cut out and the display will freeze, then a second or two later I will hear a "ding" as though I had unplugged a device. Clicking the "Remove hardware safely" icon shows no FLEX-5000 connected, and if I power down the FLEX then power it up again, I hear the "dings" as it reconnects. The PC has an AMD dual-core 64 X2 3800+ with 1GB RAM. The Firewire card is an Adaptec using an Agere chip and has IRQ 17 all to itself; WinXP Home says the device is working properly.
