Re: [Flexradio] Recording and playing back a frequency spectrum

2012-01-07 Thread Dudley Hurry

John,

Your question is just a little vague as to what you are needing to do..

I presume that you are wanting to record the incoming I/Q to a wave file..

Go to the Wave Menu at the top of PowerSDR,
Open the Options in the upper left corner of the Wave Menu
Make sure the buttons have Pre-Processed for RX and Post-Processed
for TX

Now when you are ready, tuned to your frequency , click the Record in
the Wave menu.

Do not move the VFO while recording, it will make it hard to follow
when you play it back. The sample rate size will determine the
bandwidth recorded.. Remember that the larger the Sample rate in the
Wave, the more disk space the recording will use.

When you click the Stop, it will tell you where and what name
(frequency/time/date stamp) .

The transmit level refers to Playback level while you are keyed up with
either Mox or PTT for audio play back over the air..

Hope this helps.

Open the Wave menu option, start PowerSDR so it is receiving signals and
then click on the Record button in the Wave form. The default mode of
the wave form recording is to record pre-processed (I/Q) data.

Depends on what you want to play it back with.

For using PowerSDR as the player, use pre-processed audio at any sampling
rate. For a standard Wave file player, use post-processed audio at a 48KHz
sampling rate.

Actually it's a bug. Try hitting AB twice and you can hear the sound plays
fine. Also if you press mox you can hear the sound normally and the bonus is
that the next time you don't need to press anything, just press play. But it's
only for one time, then again you need mox.

If you are wanting to play back a file on the air, you must press
either the MOX button on the console first or your PTT, then the Play

it locally, either reduce your power to 0 , and hit the PTT or play
back using MS Media Player..

[Flexradio] Recording of W9AD on his Flex

2007-01-08 Thread A.R.S. - W5AMI
I have a growing collection of audio clips that I eventually intend to
place in an audio archives website for ham radio. In particular AM
stations such as Dave. As everyone can hear, Dave has wonderful audio
using his Flex SDR on AM. I'm proud to see more and more Flexers
getting their SDR on AM, and just in recent months! Many don't
realize just how great the audio is using the Flex on AM, not to
mention how well the Flex receives AM to full fidelity.

I made this short clip of Dave this evening using my Flex for the recording.

No pre or post processing other than converting to MP3

[Flexradio] Recording a Wave File

2006-10-26 Thread Scott
I got plenty of help on this a couple weeks ago and after following the
knowledgebase all worked well.

Guess I may need it again.

I am using v1.6.3 SVN 701

I set wave options to Post for Receive and Pre on Xmit

Once I record and just play back to myself it plays back 11hz down the
band and it is un readable.

If I change the options to Pre processed on recieve it records fine.

But then playback over the air doesn't work.

I went back to SVN 696 and got the same issue.

So what am I doing wrong?

There is no need to have the MOM or MOX engaged. Just play the file.

Re: [Flexradio] Recording a Wave File

2006-10-26 Thread Guy Atkins
Tim,

Since we're on the subject of wave file recording and playback, have you
encountered offset frequencies when playing back pre-processed audio?

For instance, if I record the approx. 20 to 40 kHz above below (depending
on whether I'm in 48K or 96K sampling) a local MW station at 1000 kHz, I set
the SDR-1000 at 1000 kHz upon start of the playback. All is fine at that
point, and I'm hearing the 1000 kHz station at zero-beat. However, if I want
to tune within the recorded I.F. bandwidth up to the next station at 1010
kHz, it actually requires me to tune to approx. 1010.530 kHz.

This offset is required for zero-beat of every signal within the recorded
I.F. swath of frequencies, but the offset seems to vary from session to
session.

Also, it's very annoying that the offset bounces around if I change modes.
It's really tough to use this I.F. recording feature to go back and catch DX
signals if I can't rely upon something as basic as frequency accuracy /
readout.

Have you encountered any behavior like this before with the I.F. recording?

On a related note, it would be great to see a few more basic controls for
playback in the GUI, such as incremental fast forward or rewind. HD
recording software such as Total Recorder Pro and RecAll Pro are two
excellent examples of programs that have very easy-to-use interfaces.
PowerSDR's recording panel doesn't need anywhere near the amount of features
found in these two, but fast forward and rewind would help out a lot
when trying to find a particular spot in a long recording.

Re: [Flexradio] Recording a Wave File

2006-10-26 Thread Tim Ellison
This was Eric's recent answer to this question:

Sure. I assume this is because you are playing back a post-processed
wave file with audio at baseband. Further, it is not I/Q audio.

What the software is looking for is an I/Q audio stream that has an
11kHz IF. It uses a software oscillator to mix the IF down to baseband
and then does DSP to demodulate the I/Q stream. When you stick a plain
audio file into the stream, it still does the same thing. This is why
the audio moves down 11 kHz and then ends up looking like DSB (because
it is not I/Q data).

If you'd like to record things in receive mode for playback later (IN
RECEIVE MODE), then use pre-processed RX recording. This will record
the IF samples and you'll get what you expect when playing it back.

Eric Wachsmann

On Behalf Of Robert Cleve
Subject: [Flexradio] PowerSDR SVN 701 WAV records and plays back on
different frequencies

If you record a WAV file and save it for playback over the air it will
transmit on the same frequency that it was recorded on. However, when
it is played back without activating MOX or PTT (e.g., just for
listening purposes) it will shift the transmission down the band 10 or
20 KHz and display it as a double sideband waveform on the
Panadapter. This
happens on all bands. Does anyone have an explanation for why this
occurs?
