Re: [Flexradio] Transverter question - flex3000

2011-09-15 Thread Tim Ellison, W4TME
The FLEX-3000 does not have a dedicated low power 10m output like the
FLEX-1500 and FLEX-5000, so you will have to take precautions not to
over drive the transverter. Otherwise you can use the transverter form
with the FLEX-3000

[Flexradio] TRANSVERTER QUESTION

2011-09-15 Thread Steve Tripp (K1IIG-1)
With my 5k, is there a way to use 144mhz as an IF for my transverters.
Presently I have to manually reduce the power out to do so. I wish to have the
power selected in the "transverter form" so I can reduce power to drive various
transverters OR do I have to convert everything to a 28mhz IF? I tried building
this in the transverter form but it always reverts to power set on 2m.

Tnx for any info

Re: [Flexradio] transverter question

2009-05-04 Thread Roger Rehr

Gary et al,

I use 70 microwatts from my flex 5000 [and my FT1000MP and my K3] to
drive my transverters. Outputs measured multiple times with a couple
of HP probes as well as a Boonton...all agree within a few percent. I
know this well because I swap the rigs in and out and I always set the
output to this level so I don't need to readjust all the transverters

For those transverters that have taken more oomph, I use a MAR-x to
boost the signal.

This was sort of 'midrange' output for the 1000, which was the index
rig here and so determined the 'standard' level.

This is not the max that the 5000 will put out. But the points I am
making are:
[1] you don't need a lot of power out [use a MAR-x if its too low for
your xvtrs]

[2] the flex is not alone in terms of the level of its power out
[3] 0.5 watts out is in my [limited] experience unusual for a
transverter port on a modern rig.

I'd suggest measuring what you actually get out of the flex with a
good hp or boonton meter.

I can't give more details at present as I am separated from my notes
and equipment at present due to work demands.

I want to use it to transmit also to use for my main system. I do

have RX only checked or the PTT checked. When I check the Split RF

The Panadaptor drops 10 DB. The SDR radio and the transverter keys
up

when I click tune. If I turn the SDR radio drive to 100 %. I get .2
watts out of the transverter. That is not normal. Now if I put a 3
DB pad on the HF port and set the radio to 1 watt. The transverter
will put out full power. The transverter has a pot to control the
input of the RF. I have to turn it so I don't over drive the
transverter. This is the same transverter that Dave, W5UN also uses.
I use to transmit with it using the SDR-1000 and it worked fine then.
Any help would be appreciated.

The output from the transverter port is very low 1.0 mW.

Also make sure that PowerSDR isn't configured for RX only (or PTT

The Panadaptor drops 10 DB. The SDR radio and the transverter keys up when I
click tune. If I turn the SDR radio drive to 100 %. I get .2 watts out of the
transverter. That is not normal. Now if I put a 3 DB pad on the HF port and
set the radio to 1 watt. The transverter will put out full power. The
transverter has a pot to control the input of the RF. I have to turn it so I
don't over drive the transverter. This is the same transverter that Dave, W5UN
also uses. I use to transmit with it using the SDR-1000 and it worked fine
then. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: [Flexradio] transverter question

2009-05-04 Thread Gary Crabtree
Tim
I download the new version 1.18.0. The latest firewire_driver and also
firmware 1.3.0.0. My LT 2 S MK transverter is set up to run split. I
have used it for years for receive only and works fine. Now I want to use
it to transmit also to use for my main system. I do not have RX only
checked or the PTT checked. When I check the Split RF box in XVTR Setup.
The Panadaptor drops 10 DB. The SDR radio and the transverter keys up
when I click tune. If I turn the SDR radio drive to 100 %. I get .2
watts out of the transverter. That is not normal. Now if I put a 3 DB
pad on the HF port and set the radio to 1 watt. The transverter will put
out full power. The transverter has a pot to control the input of the
RF. I have to turn it so I don't over drive the transverter. This is the
same transverter that Dave, W5UN also uses. I use to transmit with it
using the SDR-1000 and it worked fine then. Any help would be appreciated.

The output from the transverter port is very low 1.0 mW.

Also make sure that PowerSDR isn't configured for RX only (or PTT disabled).

EBay is a good place to look, for lack of anything better - that's where I
got my 8-port SMA switch for less than $50 (and I know that some folks
will cry foul and say I paid too much, but I got exactly what I wanted,
when I wanted it, for a price I could live with - after all, they're about
$1300 or more new these days). You just need to keep looking until you
find what you want at a price you're willing to live with.

> How are you controlling the switching network?

Working on it (back-of-the-napkin phase):

I plan to adapt most of the elements of K8ISK's "MOASU" transverter
switching unit from "The World Above 50 MHz" column by W3ZZ in the March &
April '08 QSTs. To that design will be added additional non-RF relays to
accommodate integration with VE2ZAZ's 6-step 'The "At Last!" Radio TR
Sequencer' from March 2007 QST (the MOASU uses a 4-step sequencer).

It will be controlled via the PC parallel port by way of K5FR's "DDUtil"
(Data Decoder Utility) - assuming that I'm interpreting how DDUtil ties in
with PowerSDR correctly. I'll also add a manual bandswitch for the odd
occasion when I want to try the lashup with something other than the
5000A.

If all goes like I think it should, things should mimic what Mike, KM0T,
has done with his SDR-1000 plus UCB setup.

[Flexradio] Transverter question

2008-04-11 Thread Edward J White
Hi Gang:
This question is for the people using the FLEX-5000A with transverters.
What are you using to switch the REC and XMT (28 MHz) to each
transverter? I know Mike is using a multi SMA relay one in and several
feed outputs.
What I plan on doing is using separate REC and XMT out of the 5000A to
some coax switches (2) to the input REC and XMT of the transverters.
Where can I locate two switches to do the job?
How are you controlling the switching network?
