I can hear 160M amateur signals there with the BCB reject filter in. When I run both the 830KHz low pass filter and the BCB reject filter in series, ALL the false signals and images go away. Nothing left but actual signals from 500 KHz down to about 250 KHz where images from below 500 KHz begin to start up. I think another low pass filter at around 275 KHz would allow reception down lower yet. With all these filters, I think a down converter is probably best in the end. I used a Palomar up converter with Drakes in the past and it worked really great. I am going to try and find another one for my 1500. Should be a great combo. I can only speak from the experiences I have with my 1500 and my previous general coverage receiver, which was an AOR AR-7030+. I used the 7030 many times with beverages from 500 to 1500 ft long and have only used the 1500 with lowpass filter and a Wellbrook wideband active loop. In my brief experience with the Flex 1500 + lowpass filter + loop combination I'd have to say that it compares very favourably favourably with my 7030 and a beverage as far as being able to hear things goes. There's no comparison when it comes to filters and noise blankers; the Flex wins hands down! This doesn't seem to apply to other Flex models, so I guess I'm just lucky.
