 Good catch. The really primitive stop support in the turbine engine
 model didn't set the fuel flow value. This is fixed, such as it is.
 Real start/stop support is on my list, and will probably be done with
 some Nasal such that it can be hacked on a per-engine basis.

Andy, (or whoever is maintaining the b1900d), I hate to do this to you,
but I think I have spotted another bug to do with fuel and engines.

When you run out of fuel the engines continue to run, despite

/engine/engine/out-of-fuel[0]='true' and
/consumables/fuel/total-fuel-gals|lbs|norm[0]='0.00'

But the both engines are still running.

I hope this is clearer..

 it would be nice to have access to all the special function in one place
 that is accessible through keystrokes.

That's not hard. The bo105 and c150 have such a dialog (albeit without
assigned keys, which would be very easy to add).

 Maybe it would make sense to just have the comms stuff under the `-key
 and then at the bottom of that menu hang the whole aircraft specific
 menu as a standard practice.

I wouldn't be happy about a comms (communication?) dialog with added
aircraft specific stuff. Bo105 weapon reload? Door removal?. Aircraft
specific stuff should IMHO be in an extra dialog.

 At the least it would be nice to always be
 able to get the POH by hitting the same keys. Thoughts?

The bo's and c150's dialogs are currently on the Tab key. Unfortunately,
that's the same as Ctrl-I and thus overwrites the Instrument settings
dialog key binding. Intentionally. I think that wasting Tab for the
instruments wasn't a good idea.

* Melchior FRANZ -- Tuesday 08 November 2005 10:14:
 The bo's and c150's dialogs are currently on the Tab key.

Both dialogs are defined entirely in Nasal, which may look a bit scary
for Nasal beginners. It's easier to use a regular gui xml for such
aircraft specific dialogs. Just put them into the aircraft dir and
from the *-set.xml file load them into the property tree:

  sim
 ...
  model
  foo!-- that's our aircraft name :-) --
  dialogs
  dialog include=settings-dialog.xml/
  dialog include=material-dialog.xml/
  ...
  /dialogs
  /foo
  /model
  ...
  /sim

Then you put something like this somewhere in Nasal context:

  settings_dialog = nil;
  INIT = func {
  dlg = props.globals.getNode(/sim/model/foo/dialogs/dialog[0], 1);

  # let's add a button, just for fun
  dlg.getNode(button/legend, 1).setValue(Boo!);
  fgcommand(dialog-new, dlg);

  # dialog must contain namefoo-settings/name!
  settings_dialog = props.Node.new({dialog-name: foo-settings});
  }
  settimer(INIT, 0);

and as a key binding you define for example:

  key n=5
  nameCtrl-E/name
  descOpen settings dialog/desc
  binding
  commandnasal/command
  scriptfgcommand(dialog-show, foo.settings_dialog)/script
  /binding
  /key

Josh did a great job of the 3D model. The whole thing looks good and
flies OK. I wasn't totally sure about the alignment of the 3D model with
the reference points for the FDM, but hey, it may not be perfect but
it's perfectly usable.

I'll be quite happy for the Colditz Glider to be part of 0.9.9

It will benefit from a catapult launch system (apparently the aircraft
carriers have such a thing now?). I tried using a short-duration
low-powered rocket in the FDM to achieve a similar effect, but never
managed to get the coefficients right.

Help yourselves at

I can't put in CVS myself: (no permission).

If it does go into CVS (or anywhere else) please delete the
subdirectories 'Docs/' and 'Images/' because they contain all the
research materials I pulled together in order to build the thing in the
first place and are not GPL. Similarly, thumbnail.jpg in the top
directory isn't mine either. Everything else is by me or Josh Babcock
and we're both happy that it's GPL.

FYI: The 'Images/' directory is every photo of Colditz Castle that I
could find on the web. I was wondering if there was enough information
there to do a reasonable 3D scenery mockup of the castle to be added to
the default FGFS scenery of that corner of Saxony. Never got past the

[Flightgear-devel] howto compile on SuSE 10.0 running gcc 4.0.2 and freeglut 2.4.0

2005-11-08 Thread Torsten Dreyer
Hi everybody,

just tried to get latest CVS compiled on a fresh install of SuSE 10.0. It has
gcc 4.0.2 and freeglut 2.4.0 installed. It compiles, but does not run due to
the known

freeglut (fgfs): Failed to create cursor
freeglut  ERROR:  Function glutSetCursor called without first calling
'glutInit'.

stuff. Trying to compile freeglut 2.2.0 brings up a lot of compile errors on
freeglut_callbacks.c.
The reason for the errors is in freeglut_internal.h in the definitions of the
macros FETCH_WCB and INVOKE_WCB

I modified these like this in freeglut_internal.h:

#define FETCH_WCB(window,cbname) \
((window).CallBacks[CB_ ## cbname])

#define INVOKE_WCB(window,cbname,arg_list)\
do\
{ \
if( FETCH_WCB( window, cbname ) ) \
{ \
fgSetWindow( window );   \
((FGCB ## cbname)FETCH_WCB( window, cbname )) arg_list; \
} \
} while( 0 )

After that freeglut compiles and a rebuild of plib, SimGear and FlightGear
brings back my FlightGear.

Looks more like a freeglut-thing, but maybe someone on this list also cares...

Cheers, Torsten

The easier way is to just install the SuSE 9.3 rpm of freeglut. It

Sorry, I think this is far behind my scope as Windows does not give
any stack info back as FG is a Cygwin process. And I have to kill
Cygwin with the Windows taskmanager as it freezes too. And my
knowledge about Cygwin is very limited :-(

May be some other Cygwin user can test whether it is an individual
problem (then forget about it) or a general one?

It's a general problem Georg but it's not visible if the memory is not
reused or marked as free by the debugger.

NewGUI::reinit ()
{
   mapstring,FGDialog *::iterator iter;
   vectorstring dlg;
   // close all open dialogs and remember them ...
   for (iter = _active_dialogs.begin(); iter != _active_dialogs.end();
iter++) {

   dlg.push_back(iter-first);
   closeDialog(iter-first);
   }
}

closeDialog will indirectly destroy *iter, so you can not do a iter++
after that.

 Is is certain that reftag is set in this case?

Yes. The modification to opTop is a pop, the stack contents have
already been pushed at that point. I just scanned through the loop
again, and don't see anywhere that an object gets copied onto the
stack incorrectly -- the only way it's done is to copy the whole naRef
at once, which copies the reftag also.

Even a garbage collection wouldn't cause this behavior, as it would
clean up the pointed-to object and not the reference on the stack.

Note, by the way, that reftag is not guaranteed to be present -- if
the naRef is a number, you will see the (non-NaN) top half of the
double instead. The behavior you are seeing is consistent with
a number being stored in the local variable hash in the slot where
you used to see an object. No idea why that might happen either.

On my wishlist for baltimore: martin state airport, harbor place,

clinton st. ? marine terminals, maybe the usfg building or md
national bank building downtown. One of the largest churches in the

On my wishlist for dc: (in addition to yours):

GAI (montgomery county airpark), the college park airport
RFK stadium, georgetown/howard universities -- nothing against
american or george washington universities, I just don't know how
recognizable they'd be), the naval observatory, the power plant in
alexandria, the national theater, the kennedy center, the watergate,
the national zoo, RIO center (exit 9 off I-270) is probably nicely
visable from the air also There's also sugarloaf mountain or great
falls, md or great falls, va. Georgetown park or chevy chase
pavillion might be good markers, too, but maybe when we modal
american shopping malls 8-) tysons corner (the malls) might help find
dulles airport visually grin

the georgetown and dalecarlia sp? reservoirs might help avoid the
restricted area around the us vice presidents house (at the naval
observatory)

anything at all, esp. if it's on jeppesen plates or the baltimore or
washington sectional or terminal area charts.

oh, well, I can dream, can't I?

Probably accurately displaying the borders of parks and forested
areas could help with VFR, no? (this is not to imply that the borders
are not accurate, I don't know but it might be worth looking into)

I don't know what your schedule is, but it's probably
moving a lot faster than mine will be.

My schedule is remarkably unreliable 8-(. I hope that eventually I

I think the Statue of Liberty is a nice thing to have. It's a nostalgic
thing for those of us who had seen the Flight Simulator II on Atari ST and
Amiga. the first home personal computer program ever to apply to the FAA
for an official PCATD status. Even a very crude, low-poly version would be
great.

It was this very program that had inspired in me the desire to fly in the
real life one day, back when I was 13 years old. I distinctly remember the
thought: Hey, those folks in the US have the small planes to fly in
available to common people to try. Maybe in 30 years, when they have
rocket ships at the same availability level over there, we'll have small
planes available to common people like me here in the USSR! since then I
had managed to witness the USSR collapse, the iron curtain fall, and
eventually get my private pilot wings in the US...

Same with the ATC communication dialog. That's because they are dynamic.
ATCdialogs.cxx fill buttons in before displaying. If we let new_gui.cxx
close the dialog, reload the gui and re-open, then ATCdialogs.cxx isn't

[Flightgear-devel] Cessna 182 and 3D Instruments Update

2005-11-08 Thread Buchanan, Stuart
Hi All,

I've updated the Cessna 182 as follows.

- New Skylane textures to replace the old ones (which said Skyhawk on the
side!)
- Re-upholstered interior :)
- Improved 3D cockpit with new
  - yokes
  - engine controls - throttle, propeller, mixture
  - flaps
  - seats
- Updated help
- KAP140 autopilot (though the altitude hold currently doesn't work)
- Renamed files from c172 to c182
- Updated help with information from the readme

A screenshot is available from

http://www.nanjika.co.uk/flightgear/c182/c182.jpg

The tarball is available from

http://www.nanjika.co.uk/flightgear/c182/c182.tar.gz

This is designed to completely replace the existing data/Aircraft/c182
(the FDM and main model are unchanged), and given the name changes there
seems little point in generating diffs. Assuming someone wants to check
this into CVS, let me know if you need anything else.

The new cockpit makes use of a couple of 3D widgets I've created for the
data/Aircraft/Instruments-3d directory.

http://www.nanjika.co.uk/flightgear/c182/yoke.tar.gz
http://www.nanjika.co.uk/flightgear/c182/trim.tar.gz
http://www.nanjika.co.uk/flightgear/c182/flaps.tar.gz

The yoke is designed to be a generic Cessna one, but is currently branded
for the Skylane. If/when we have configurable textures, this will be more
useful.

The trim wheel is taken from the c172 model, and the flaps are again
designed to be generic Cessna, but include a neat little flap position
indicator that is independent of the lever.

As always feedback is very welcome, especially as I've never been inside a
Skylane!

Regards,

-Stuart

[Flightgear-devel] Re: B1900D fuel/engines

2005-11-08 Thread syd

Andy, (or whoever is maintaining the b1900d), I hate to do this to you,
but I think I have spotted another bug to do with fuel and engines.

When you run out of fuel the engines continue to run, despite

/engine/engine/out-of-fuel[0]='true' and
/consumables/fuel/total-fuel-gals|lbs|norm[0]='0.00'

But the both engines are still running.

I hope this is clearer..

George Patterson

Hi George . I am maintaining the b1900d , and yes I mentioned the same
problem a while back, I run out of fuel and continue to fly on if I
understand correctly,the turboprop engine code is fairly new and still a work
in progress , so Im sure it will be straightened out soon.I have thought of
trying to fix it myself , but I think the engine code is Andy's work and he
knows FAR more than I do about such things .
Thanks for the note , sometimes I get so far into the modelling aspect I miss
bugs :)
Cheers

I installed freeglut, all three packages found in the SuSE library.
Restarted and ran ./configure again for FG. It seems to have compiled
okay without complaining about glutInit, but I am now getting this
error. So I've made progress. ;-)

An archive post says that the CVS version does not have this problem.
Should I try the CVS version? I installed 0.9.8 because of the
previous error, just to see if the version was at fault.

I have lived in Arlington, VA most of my life. Much of my simulated
flying is local, so I am interested in populating the Mid-Atlantic
area. It's pretty empty now. I tend to do my simulated flying on the
Delmarva, but Martin State is my usual destination from the Eastern
Shore. Baltimore is such a complicated airport (when flying under ATC
in MSFS for example) KMTN is a simple straight in and lines up nicely
with KSBY and some of the other local airports. It would be nice to
see some improvements for that and for KSBY the airport I depart from
the most. I am unsure if I can help, I do hope to convert a model of
the Cape May Light I made for MSFS for FG once I understand the tools.
I've got to get FG compiled first. ;-)

It's not FG, but freeglut 2.4.0 (release version) causing this error. I have
tried to compile the CVS version of freeglut on SuSE 10, but got lots of
compile errors there and fixing the older 2.2.0 version was easier for me.
