Re: [Flightgear-devel] Frankfurt (EDDF) scenery SVN now available
Hi, I just corrected the building positions once more and checked everything with Google Earth. The parking positions are ok for our current buildings. However, as I already wrote, there are some changes in reality to make room for the A380. These new gates are spread across the Terminals and I have not yet looked deeper into it. However: Positions D121, D111, D101 and D91 changed. There are only 3 positions left, in addition to a bigger reconstruction of the D building. Hi, Loading the attached file into Google Earth will show you the parking positions at EDDF. This way you can check if they are correct. Unfortunately I do not have too much time to redo the ground network, if any of you can do it, I'm more than pleased. :) My idea about the performace issue is to make it scalable by the user. Re: [Flightgear-devel] Frankfurt (EDDF) scenery SVN now available
Hi Chris, I've updated the scenery last night, buildings of terminal1 add more realistic feeling to EDDF. :) I really enjoy flying there. When I was measuring parking positions, I have always put the marker on the yellow line, but I was unsure which part of the aircraft (front, center, back) should be matched. So it can happen that aircraft are parking a bit too close or too far to the building, but I expect no error in the direction perpendicular to aircraft's front/back axis. I'm going to export all the parking positions into a kml file, and load them into Google Earth, to check. I'll let you know the result. Hello, here is a short update: Today I went to EDDF to take some photos of as many buildings and things as possible, to be able to better create textures. Some of the results can already be seen in SVN. However, I have one problem: There is reconstruction going on on gate c/d and they built a new tower-like thing there. I also read there will be more A380 parkings. I was not able to take a detailed shot of this, so if anybody is able to provide me with some photos of that new construction, I'd be very greateful. Other pictures are welcome, too :-) Cheers, Chris - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. Hi, it is not and with the current Scenery 1.0.0 the ground network has to be done new for the most airports. Till end of the week maybe I can do a first step for a groundwork if wanted. Or maybe, that's for fun to me, create some more flight shedules for EDDF. But this a big work and difficult for some users, because Interactive Traffic needs a lot of perfomance and so the whole day-traffic can't be done (about 82 flight movements a minute is too much for the most pc's). I wished, it would be faster to create Interactive Traffics... Hi Chris, extract the attached tarball into your data directory. You will also need the appropritate AI aircraft (LH 737, LH 747, LH A320 LH A333). They are available on Durk's site: http://www.xs4all.nl/~dtalsma/flightgear.html Regards, Gabor On Monday 10 March 2008 12:39, Christian Schmitt wrote: > Hi Gabor, > > first of all thank you for this very useful feedback. > > > I have noticed only one minor issue so far with the buildings of > > Terminal 2DE and 1C. I tested EDDF building position with the ufo and mpmap (my favorite tool for testing building positions when I build airports)... and yes the buildings are located approx. 50 meters too much S-W. mpmap is really the definitive tool to test the building position, I usually check hangars and taxiways so users can follow accurately their aircraft movements on the airport. Re: [Flightgear-devel] Frankfurt (EDDF) scenery SVN now available
Hi Chris, Let me express my appreciate to your wodwerful work. As I fly very often to EDDF (in FG and IRL as well), this airport become one of my favourites. I have noticed only one minor issue so far with the buildings of Terminal 2DE and 1C. When you load AI traffic data and ground map for EDDF in FG you will see airplanes parking at wrong positions (behind the buildings of 1C, "in" the passenger bridges of 2DE.) This problem can come from two sources, the parking positions can be defined wrong, or the position or scale of the buildings can be wrong. Or both. :) When I was working on the ground map of EDDF I was using Google Earth to measure the positions and directions (separately for every parking slot), so I assume the parking positions are right. What I have noticed is that it looks if the buildings were displaced to the west by about the distance between two passenger bridges. To show this I have created some screenshots, which I have put in the gallery on fgfs.i-net.hu. What is your opinion? Can you check somehow if the buildings are placed at the right position? Is it hard to move the buildings to east parallel the longer side of Terminal2?
