FLUXLIST: Brian's list
I've been away. Now I'm back here. Had a cell phone for three days once. Returned it. I don't want to be that accessible. I have a driver's license but almost never drive. I walk or take mass transit. I read and hoard books (and I work in the publishing industry). I don't like the idea of "E-books." Too clean. I see deer shit out the window/ Never played a video game (except Pong). Addicted to television. Nonstop visual stimulation. Don't really know how many emails I get daily. Twenty? Thirty? Keep some. Addicted to methamphetamine for just over two years(long ago).Still addicted to tobacco. Invariably involved with alcoholics (sometimes active, sometimes dry), although I myself don't metabolize alcohol too well. Took loads and loads of pills. Acid in college. Dope in college (I've always found the opiates dull). Pot in high school. Cocaine in college and f or a few years after. Now, it's down to tobacco and the occasional Xanex. Pathetic, really. I have to interact with people every day, but I don't much think about it. Some friends took me to Atlantic City so I could photograph Giant Jersey Butts and other boardwalk attractions. It was ghastly, I loved it! There's a statue of Bert Parks (he used to host the Miss America pagent for many years). He's holding out a crown, and if you stand underneath it a hidden speaker starts blaring "here she comes, miss america..." It's great. I have no gambling luck whatsoever. In fact, I may even be a jinx to other gamblers, so I don't gamble. I like some slot machines, though. Just came back from Wildwood New Jersey (down the shore). The longest, trashiest boardwalk. The googiest motels (we stayed at the Casa Bahama - all aqua/pink/yellow A frames). It's just wonderful. And I hate the beach. BG

I work very close to Canal street, the land of 1,000 industrial plastics suppliers (oh, alright, three). These shops carry a dizzying array of smallish, inexpensive boxes in a variety of sizes and colors. Almost all the colors are transparent (save the black and white).I don't believe any are more than $5.00 and most are considerably less. Re: FLUXLIST: badgergirl
Sol, Actually, Badgergirl is a name that was bestowed upon me during my brief sojourn into the NYC pagan community. Well, the badger part was bestowed upon me (because I'm low to the ground, bad tempered, and generally hungry Or so I'm told. I added the girl (as opposed to woman, womyn, or suchlike) to piss off the gynocentric crowd. Which I did. Particularly when they'd condemn me for my use of girl and I'd tell them that, really, I preferred to be thought of as a tomato, but it didn't scan too well with badger. This brought them close to violence and meat eating. Of course the ability to upset self-rightous dullards isn't much of a superpower. I can also make myself disappear, but only at the office. Re: FLUXLIST: Re:Artist/Fluxlist?
Carol, No, all this is supposed to be fun, you see. It's like a carnival for the military and their fans. Also, bear in mind that Manhattan is a fairly narrow island, it wouldn't take a fighter jet more than 8 seconds to fly across it's width. No foolin,' people are coming in from all around to see these ships and talk to the navy and airforce guys. It probably is kinda fun for the sailors and aviators who get to kill a week in NYC and be the center of all sorts of strange admiration. They do look kinda cute in their fancy dress sailor suits. Some fun. M Also: I got my really swell address book a few days ago. It's by Norman Sherfield and has the flatest dog I've ever seen. But,we could do the Major Arcana only, this would also save a lot of discourse on suits (cups, coins, swords, rods). Or we could have the discourse, discard the discourse, and STILL only do the Major Arcana. Or, we could not. Over and Out (cold) M How about theme
FLUXLIST: Scoring with Allen
Presented for your deletion: A list of things observed to have passed before (or around) Allen Bukoff while he observed his dots in NYC (with the addition of two Allen interactional events). 6:39 - Enormous young man rushes by. 6:41 - Pregnant woman on cellphone dressed entirely in black. 6:42 - Fat man in forgettable outfit. 6:45 - Observant Jewish man looks fetchingly over his shoulder towards Allen. 6:46 - Herd of slow moving patriots. 6:47 - South American guy in blue cap walks into shoe store. 6:48 - Dean and Deluca truck nearly obscures view. 6:49 - Allen suddenly moves to the right! 6:50 - Exceedingly cartoon-like man on bicycle. 6:52 - Interestingly shaved head man bounces uptown. 6:53 - Woman with shopping cart walks against the traffic. Does not get killed. 6:54 - Rastaman with 1970s pimp jacket. 6:55 - Slow moving man in blue baseball cap. 6:57 - Woman in hat that looks like a woolen bucket and nice blue velvet coat. 6:59 - Creepy guy in reversed baseball cap moving slowly and arguing with girlfriend (sans hat). 7:00 - Couple in red stall out in front of Timberland store. 7:01 - Parachute pants and blue bandana guy. 7:02 - Allen attempts to sell 536 Broadway to a young woman who declines offer and flees. 7:03 - Tragic figure in white socks, Burkenstock sandals and baseball cap. 7:05 - Allen again attempts to sell 536 Broadway to a passerby. This time, a small business man who declines the offer and escapes uptown. 7:06 - Right leg falls asleep. 7:08 - Indistinct man in flat black leather cap and turn up jeans. 7:09 - White boy in black (notation garbled) hat and bad glasses. 7:10 - Rabbinical looking guy in black borsalino hat. 7:11 - Two guys with matching grey backpacks. One in exotic head wrap the other in bandana. 7:12 - Young woman in blue head wrap carrying a shopping bag from Yellow Rat Bastard. 7:13 - Skate rat in leopard print backwards baseball cap. These notes were taken in conjunction with a pleasant young man from Leeds whose name I've forgotten but it was something like Fabrice and hopefully he will forgive me for having forgotten because I'm just dreadful with names and besides I tried to remember really I did but at least I remembered he was from Leeds (you were from Leeds, weren't you) and that ought to count for something don't you think? NB: Allen Bukoff is now my best friend in the whole world because he gave me stuff. Clearly, like the Manhattan indians, I can be had for a handful of trinkets. M

Re: FLUXLIST: Tragedy (Not the Bee Gees Song)
Roger and all, It seems to me that the answer is education. Education as broad based and even handed as possible. The more people know about the planet they occupy, how they got where they are, etc. the happier they'll be. You know, the basics of hard science, a non-biased overview of as many arts and cultures as is possible, etc. The more knowledge people aquire the less likely they are to depend on god to tell them what to do with their lives. Surely it comes as no surprise to any of you that more people have died in the name of god than for any other reason. When you leave all of life's important decisions to a nebulous idea of omnipotence personified, well... it's not good. Had to agree. 2 I object to the coming war on the following grounds - More innocent people are about to die. I can't see what it will achieve. The Taliban aren't going to surrender bin Laden. Despite what Bush and Blair say about it not being an attack on Muslims (and I'm sure it's not) ordinary, and ill-informed people the world over will think it is - that causing more unrest and trouble. On a lesser note, historic buildings will be destroyed. Surely there MUST be a better way to rid the world of terrorism. This is what the debate should be about. Hey ho - Peace and Love Roger
Re: FLUXLIST: re badgergirl
Gee, guess you sure told me! I did, in fact, look at your sources. Not exactly the most unbiased sources of info on the middle east (yes, even Amnesty International!) in my opinion. Noam Chomsky?! Oh the pain. But of course I always take as gospel whatever Ted Koppel says... Look, I'm not going to argue with you. I've been down this road before. Why waste my time and the time of the Fluxlist folk? Arguing with people like you is like trying to argue with a drunk, there's no point. Clearly the Palestinians (who are technically Jordanian) are nobel victims, innocent dupes, incapable of wrong doing and the Israelis are the schoolyard bullies of the Middle East, picking fights without provocation and stealing everyones lunch money. Reading the accounts of people you haven't met is not really helpful. I've known many people (both Israeli AND Arab) who live, work, and survive in that difficult terrain. They would all find your opinions (and much of your source material) dubious if not actually laughable. Here's a fact for you: Jews and Arabs are both Semitic peoples and see the world somewhat differently then the West. Their values and methods of communications are organized rather differently then those of Europe et al. Perhaps the answer is to leave them to it and stop trying to inflict our Western morals and values on two peoples who probably don't need the aggravation. But the real solution, of course, is to air-condition and carpet the entire region, then watch the tensions melt. That's my final answer.
