FLUXLIST: FLUXSTAMP Project
Hi All, Some final notes on the stamp kits, which were mailed yesterday, and which most should be getting within a week: I editioned the stamp sets, so they are numbered in an edition of 36 at the bottom of the page. They are yours to use as you wish. Some of you might want to just use them on mail art, some might want to keep them intact and frame them - John Held, Jr. has a beautiful collection of framed stamp sheets. Their are two sets of two stamp sheets. The first two are dry gummed - like stamps "used to be" if you wet the backs, they stick. These sheets have a title on the upper right. The other two sheets are not gummed, but they are printed on white ultramatte paper and thus have better resolution than the gummed sheets. These sheets have a title on the upper left. If you do want to keep the stamp folder intact, the second sheets, with the better resolution, would be ideal for color copiesone can just get copies made, then cut around the individual stamps and past them on mail art , with a good application of glue stick on the back. Or, if you decide to use the second set as stamps, again, the application of glue stick on the back, or whatever adhesive you prefer. The folder is organized with other ephemera in translucent plastic corners. Feel free to rearrange as you wish and remove any of the plastic corners, or not. I also affixed plastic corners to the sheets at the top to keep them from sliding around and bending in transit. The night before I mailed everything out, I decided to make a stamp with my "mug" on it, and I used a frame of a rubber stamp, "Post Flux" that John had given me. As I enthusiastically decorated outgoing envelopes with art stamps, etc., I noticed the bottom of the "Post Flux" stamp frame I had used bore the numbers, 7 and 11. And yesterday, the day I mailed them, was 7/11. So, I guess we can call it a commemorative envelope. Dam, I should have mailed them at 7:11 but, I confess I mailed them at 6:30wasn't thinking. All the envelopes are garishly tarted up except for Italy and Venezuela (due to possible hostile postal workers). Input from you on how the stamps are canceled when they arrive would be appreciated. Did they cancel just the "real" stamps, or the art stamps as well? Also, I'm interested to know if they were postmarked 7/11/00. Oh, and if I made any mistakes, don't let me know. Just fix it on your end. : ) Best, PK

Hey Lil' Artist Kids With Rosey Cheeks Sitting Primly In Your Chairs, You Are All So Cute, But Sum of You are Kicking Your Feet, (I get a bit squishy below, but, really, it's not the academy awards) I have the stamp sheets gridded for printing, am going to investigate local printers next week and try to find some gummed paper stuff to print on. All said and done, there are two sheets of stamps. John Held, Jr. (Speaking of Whom, This makes good reading:) http://www.googleplex.com/Johnheld/index.html has most graciously agreed to perf them once I get them printed, without charge, up to 50 sheets of each. He will keep 10 sheets, so, I figure with 24 artists we we will each get 2 sheets of each of the 2 (that's four sheets in toto each), if I reimburse him for 6 sheets, which would be overage of his gratis and run about 30 bucks, U.S. I have learned a lot about antique stamp perforating machines on this journey, and I thank Anna Banana, Steve Smith and John Held, Jr. for contributing their knowledge - I think they've got the only ones around. (Here's the academy awards credits, squish) I also think I will go to San Francisco and wash John Held's feet in chocolate/cinammon soap and burn incense in front of his toes. Bless Him. Contributing artists for whom I shall need addresses for in the next 3 weeks to mail same to (assuming all runs like happy bubbling waters over the smooth river stones...) Other options, if you would rather just print them up on your own printer, I could zip them to you, or I have a CD burner now and could mail you the data, if you just want to print and cut them yourself. Now, now . . . John Held's butt does not come amiss. A welcome bit of info--as is the fact, which I always suspected, that P. is a redhead. AK allen bukoff wrote: better proof to me would be a close-up image of a perfed sheet of stamps...instead of pictures of John Held's butt Proof of perforation 01 July 2000 http://www.geocities.com/pk_harris/seven.html

PK wrote: Proof of perforation Nice to see the act of perforation. I've heard about, but never seen, one of those machines before. In fact I used to think it would be cool to have a perforator but I now realise that you need a very big space to house it. Thanks for a view of the process, Patricia. cheers, Sol.

Where we at: Hello shiny faced little fluxstamp girls and boys looking up expectedly (Roger, quit fidgeting) Stamps are all printed up, look great, taking them to John Held, Jr. today to perf. (hopefully today). He has agreed to let me in his door despite my sordid reputation, what a guy. Choosing sum music now to listen to on the way up, one pick for sure, Dodgy Derek's Desert Drive-In Dunk-A-Donut Stand by "The Killer Rabbits." "Hawaiian Helluva Hola Holiday" is a fave - like the way the pronounce "Hebrides." Maybe some Gonzo Dog Band, maybe Python's "Final Ripoff" including another fave, "Eric, the 'alf-a-bee" By, me

To the fluxstamp folks...at last!!! Your stamps of wondrous art are being printed and you shall have them within the next 2 weeks (the goal, anyway). Seems to be a "2" kinda thing. There are 2 sheets of gridded stamps. I am printing 2 sheets of each on dry gummed paper and 2 sheets of each on ultra matte white paper. (This will give you 4 sheets of each, I think I've got the math down although I am still reviving on morning coffee.) The latter achieves brilliant resolutionthe former is good resolution, not as good as the ultra matte, but you have the option of licking the back, as some of you may be wont to do. They will all be perforated and the ultra matte sheets will be super for making your own color copies, should you wish John Held, Jr. is going to perforate them pro bono, in exchange for keeping some of the sheets, so I may just whip them on up to him since he is only 2 hours away. Of course, I can't do that until one of the next 2 days of the 2 day weekend of the next 2 weeks. Addresses, please? Alan Bowman (have yours - still the school one?) Ana Capuli (yours I have) Brad Brace Owen Smith Don Boyd (got it) Allen Bukoff Roger Stevens (have yours, but, moving?) I will get info from him first then grid the stamps - may have to ask some folks to edit, but will try to get it all in. We'll see. m

Hi All, I (think) all the fluxstamps are up on the slightly pokey geocities website, in no particular order. By the end of the month I will have them placed, gridded, printed and perforated. http://www.geocities.com/pk_harris/ I've copied this email to some of the many artists and artfans that might be interested in viewing these artists' stamps that have come from all over the globe, and, hey, out there, print them up, paste them on your envelopes or whatever else you fancy, with other arty bits - voila, mail art! For you Fluxus folks that submitted work, let me know if I left anyone out, if anything needs to be changed, if those whom I designed for do not approve of the fonts, colours *sniff* or whatever - email me your thoughts or wishes. Your pard in philately, PK

Cool project, Patricia. Thanks for doing this. Re: FLUXLIST: FLUXSTAMP Project
Hi all, I've just asked Patricia to remove the images currently under my name in this project as when I now see them on the screen I feel that they look awful. So please disregard what's there now.Thanks. I have sent replacements. It occurs to me that many of you may in the future or already have felt that way about work you have sent me to display on the web. If you're ever unhappy with anything of yours that I display..like at the i-zone gallery etc. please do let me know..there is nothing worse than seeing a work of yours on public display which you're not 100 % happy with. Anyway I'd like to publicly thank Patricia for doing this project and putting up with my fuss. cheers, Sol

Hi All, Cutoff date for stamp submission is manana, 5/5, Cinco de Mayo, becuz, well I guess we all need deadlines. If your stamp is "in the mail" for scanning it is not a problem. What I will do is put what I have on the website I set up on Photoshop contact sheets, which is what I did before, it's not the actual placement on the contact sheets that will be the end result. I will give participants the option of pulling an image or advising me of anything displeasing. I'll let you know when they're all up. Then I am giving myself a deadline of 5/15 to arrange them myself on a grid that can be perfed, rather than the contact sheet which Photoshop does automatically on whatever file one specifies. If any stuff needs to be edited out at that time, I'll give the stampee the option of what goes. After I have them properly gridded, I'll look at printing options, check with the guy in SF about perfing, etcetera. Best, PK
