Aligning paragraph text, setting font-family

2003-12-05 Thread Manjush G. Menon
hi,
I want to 'justify' all lines of a paragraph, but not the last one.

Now when i give

fo:block
font-size=12pt font-family=Arial space-after=0cm
text-align=start text-align-last=relative
white-space-collapse=false white-space=normal linefeed-treatment=preserve

xsl:value-of select=body/

/fo:block

the following happens:

* The whole text including last line is justified
* The following error is shown

[ERROR] Unknown enumerated value for property 'text-align-last': relative
[ERROR] Error in text-align-last property value 'relative':
org.apache.fop.fo.expr.PropertyException: No conversion defined

Also, when i give font-family=Arial in a fo:block, it shows

[ERROR] unknown font sans,normal,normal so defaulted font to any

Iam using Win2k and the font is there by default

Please help me

Thanks

Nada! Fop only uses base 14 fonts by default. To use Arial, you need to
build a font metrics file (in xml) for the font using TTFReader (part of the
Apache FOP distribution), then register the font with FOP by modifying or
setting up an FOP configuration file. See the documentation on fonts (
./build/site/fonts.html ).

Unfortunately, the parser people have more or less standardized
on the notation that line endings are characters, and encoding
problems are detected at the stage before, so that line count is
not available. You might want to feed your file into an identity
trasformation run through Saxon, the XML parser bundled with Saxon
reports the byte offset.
thanks a lot for the tip.

Re: Appending a PDF file to another PDF programmatically

2003-12-05 Thread mathieu . fretiere
I may need to append a PDF file (or several PDF files) to the end of a PDF
You might do this with the XEP API by renderX ( see
http://www.renderx.com/ ). You can include a pdf into another pdf with an
fo:external-graphic tag (if I can remember). I don't know if it's a really
good solution (i.e. if you can place your included pdf exactly wherever
you want, if there are scaling issues...).
Unlike FOP, XEP is a paying API (requires a server license in the case of
a web application).

Set Height and Width in pixels for rendered image

2003-12-05 Thread Gergely Hajdu
Hi,

I am using FOP-driver together with these packages :

com.multiconn.fop AND
com.multiconn.fop.codec

I am generating TIFF-images by the following code :

// Set up parameters for the renderer
tiffRenderer = TIFFRendererFactory.newTIFFRenderer(  );
TIFFRendererParams params = new TIFFRendererParams(  );
params.setDeflateLevel( Deflater.BEST_COMPRESSION );
params.setWriteTiled(true);
params.setCompression( TIFFRendererParams.COMPRESSION_PACKBITS );

// Set parameters to renderer
tiffRenderer.setRenderParams( params );

// Create output location for the created TIFF-image
RandomAccessFile cachedTiff = new RandomAccessFile( outputFile,rw );
OutputStream out = new SeekableOutputStream( cachedTiff );

// Run the driver and render the TIFF-image
driver = new Driver( new InputSource( ftl_templates + fileSeparator +
.tif ),out );
driver.setRenderer( tiffRenderer );
driver.run(  );

My problem is that the rendered TIFF gets quite big. Uncompressed it is like
4MB,
approximately ( 3 * 3 pixels ). What I would like to do is to set
some kind
of height and width to the rendered TIFF, so it is like 1024*768 pixels (
height*width).
I would like to write something like :

tiffRenderer.setHeight(1024); // TIFF-image height in pixels
tiffRenderer.setWidth(768); // TIFF-image width in pixels

Is there any way to do this ? Of course the src-code to doing maybe looks
different than
I wrote, but I hope you understand what I want to achieve.

Regards
/Gergely

SVG scaling issue (when rendering 2 SVGs of same height)

2003-12-05 Thread mathieu . fretiere
Hello,

I'm trying to render a pdf containing external svg graphics and I
encounter a scaling problem.
I know this topic was already discussed, but I want to know if there's
something new.

I put two SVGs in a table, in the same row, in two cells. These SVG have
the same height, but different widths. But in the pdf they have a
different size.
These SVG are quite plain (rectangles). They were created with Adobe
Illustrator, they contain a path element. If I use a svg containing a
rect element, the problem disapears. If I use a bitmap graphic too.

I've tried to change some attributes (width, height...) of the
fo:external-graphic tag but it doesn't work better.

I've joined the two SVGs, the xsl-fo file and the resulting pdf (it's not
too big).

Any idea ?

Thanks.

Re: SVG scaling issue (when rendering 2 SVGs of same height)

2003-12-05 Thread mathieu . fretiere
It may comes form your view box in svg documents : one is 56. width,
the other only 16

Thanks, that's right.

It works if I use a SVG like this (without viewbox) :

?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8?
svg width=56.249 height=150
path fill=#309E2D d=M56.249,150H0V0h56.249V150z/
/svg

But... I still have a problem...
My svg files are created with Illustrator. But the rendered graphic size
(in the pdf) is dynamic (depends on the application user's choice).
As there is no scaling mechanism for SVG graphics, I must change the width
and height attributes of the svg tag, and convert them into mm, and use
the viewbox attribute, in order to let the proportion of the graphics
unchanged.
I don't know what to do.
I could try embedding svg but I'd expect memory problems.
I could use bitmap graphics but would lose quality and increase pdf size.

There is no way to pass parameters to the XSLT processors in the
FOP command line. You either have to run the XSL transformation
standalone
 http://xml.apache.org/fop/running.html#check-input
the run the resulting FO through FOP, or use your own wrapper.

AFAIT the image is resized too fit the cell. Unfortunately for
you, the table cell hight matters (automatic resizing tries
to preserve the aspect ratio), and I guess the height is
determined by a neighbouring table cell in your case.

Re: SVG scaling issue (when rendering 2 SVGs of same height)

My svg files are created with Illustrator. But the rendered graphic size

As there is no scaling mechanism for SVG graphics,
No. The SVG is always rendered at the dimensions given in the
SVG itself, clipped to the viewport if necessary.
I must change the width
and height attributes of the svg tag, and convert them into mm, and use
the viewbox attribute, in order to let the proportion of the graphics
unchanged.
I don't know what to do.
Tamper with the SVG.

Including PDF graphics?

2003-12-05 Thread Justus H. Piater
Hi,

It seems that FOP cannot include PDF graphics. To me this is a serious
shortcoming, as there does not appear to be a way to include existing
EPS or PDF graphics in a FOP-generated document, and show the result
in acroread.

What's the opinion out there? File an enhancement request?

Justus

FOP can include EPS graphis, but Acrobat reader wont display them
(that's mainly a restriction of AcrobatReader, not FOP, a PS printer
will print them even from Acrobat Reader).
What's a PDF graphic? A recursivly embedded PDF?

Bug with keep-together?

2003-12-05 Thread Abhijit Junnare
As FOP has keep-together implemented only for table
rows I am formatting some content in a table. Now I
have different margins for first page and rest of the
pages. I have some content which has keep-together set
to always and it should print on first page if it fits
in its entirety or should start on second page. It
does exactly that but the problem lies with the table
width. I have set the table-width for this
keep-together table to be 100%. I have 1in margins for
all sides on first page and 0.5in margins for the rest
of the pages. Now when the content is more than what
can be accommodated on the remaining part of the first
page, it prints to content on second page BUT it has
1.5 in margin on the right side. It is not exactly
margin but the table width is calculated as 100%
considering the 1in margins and so the rest of the
space on the right side is left blank when this table
is printed on the second page (0.5 in margin).
I can say for sure that table width is calculated as
per the first page because except for this table the
content on second page has 0.5 in margin on all right
and left sides. So is this a bug? Should I specify the
table width something other than 100%?

That's a bug with percentage resolution rather than with
keep-toghether. The percentage is resolved with respect
to the area where the table starts and is not recalculated
if the table spills into an area with a different width.
The same happens with basically all other percentages,
including widths on comon blocks.
You just have to avoid spreading blocks whose width involves
calculating percentages over blocks with different area
widths.
