RE: create arabic pdf
I'm not sure, but I think the commercial lib xmlpdf (www.xmlpdf.com) might be able to handle some of this stuff :) :) toke -Original Message- From: nafise hassani [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 26. december 2004 06:29 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: create arabic pdf hi Anybody knows how to Create PDF with Arabic words? Seems FOP-0.20.5(cocoon use it in its pdf serializer) cannot handle Arabic glyphs/ligature properly. It can only display the Arabic characters but the rules to ligate them together cannot be displayed. also it show chars from left to right but arabic is a right to left language suggestion?? __ Do you Yahoo!? Other than that, the best solution would seem to be to contribute to the open-source work. Neither of the issues that you mention is easy to solve, and it is likely to be some time before an open-source solution is available. If you need a solution today, I think you have to look at the commercial implementations. BTW, in my previous posting I used the word "bidi" where I meant writing-mode. The answer is the same. To handle the ligatures properly requires (I think) the use of the OpenType GPOS tables. The commercial implementations are your best bet right now. I think that RenderX handles the bidi issue, but not the ligature issue correctly. Re: create arabic pdf
Hello, I don't know if FOP has this capability, but a search on "Arabic" in our archives [1] ("Hebrew" may help as well, as that's another R-to-L language) is giving several links that may answer your question. Also a Google on "FOP Arabic" (without the quotes) gives thousands of hits. Let us know if you're able to get it done, and which link(s) helped you the most.
