2015-07-15 Thread Fabiana Simões
Hi Foundation,

Just a quick reminder that, if you're planning to come to Gothenburg
to attend GUADEC, you should make sure to register at
https://registration.guadec.org/ as soon as possible.

The venue can accommodate a certain amount of people, and we need to
make sure we don't go over that limit. Besides that, we'd really
appreciate if you're able donate a registration fee to help make
GUADEC happen.

Thanks so much! And see you all in Sweden.

Question for candidates: transparency and accountability

2015-05-25 Thread Fabiana Simões
Hi everyone,

I'd like to hear your thoughts on implementing transparency and
accountability on the Board.

How transparent the work of the Board should be to Foundation members? What
should be communicated and when? Do you think we have been transparent
enough in the last term? If not, how can we improve things and how high in
your priorities would be to do so?

In terms of accountability, it's been unclear to me since joining the
Foundation how much different Board members contribute to the Board's goals
and tasks. Do you think the meeting notes provide enough visibility and
context to the work being done? By the end of a term, how can the
Foundation have a fair understanding of one's contributions to the Board?

Thanks,
Fabiana

 Hi Oliver,

Nice bid. I have some doubts regarding to some prices in page 7.

The prices to get to Kasttrup Airport, Copenhagen seems extremely low.
 For example:

 * Beijing, China: EURO 290 Euro (12+ hours)
 * Boston, USA: EURO 145 Euro (13+ hours)
 * Montreal, Canada: EURO 364 Euro (12+ hours)

I tried to get some prices with kayak.com, but all of them where more
than US$1,000. I know that some cheap airlines does not appear there,
like AirBerlin or AirTransat. But one gets to Berlin and the another to
 Amsterdam.

Where did you get these prices? Which Airline? Are they round-trip
 tickets with airfares?

Are these prices part of a Swedish conspiracy? ;-)

Apart from all that has been mentioned, speaking for Brazil, delivery

Re: internal engagement

2014-03-03 Thread Fabiana Simões
Quite honestly, I never expected broader discussions about the project
to take place in this list. I believe those should welcome anyone
interested, and not only Foundation members.

To a large extent, I always expected this to be an active
communication channel between Foundation members and the board. The
meeting notes and agenda are great, but they give very little insight
about the milestones and major accomplishments we're hitting (and
aiming to hit) as a Foundation.

To answer your question: I do care, but I know little about what the
Board is doing or should be doing to initiate any discussions I find
pertinent to this mailing list. It also strikes me that the Board
never has anything to ask or communicate to us besides the elections
announcements. I think more openness and dialogue would give us some
food for thought, and seed discussions.

On 1 March 2014 17:52, Sriram Ramkrishna s...@ramkrishna.me wrote:
 Greetings, foundation members!

This list has been pretty quiet and I'm wondering how best to talk
about things going on in GNOME internally that would capture people's
 imagination.

For the most part, we've been talking mostly about new members and
 welcoming them.

But, I feel that we don't really talk much about the project here from
a general perspective. There is a lot going on, but this list doesn't
really reflect the work going on within GNOME.

So, let me ask all of you a question. When you signed on as
Foundation members, what kind of discussions or involvement did you
hope to see? What should the various team communicate with you?

We've tried a lot of things to help communicate out ot the project,
but it's been met mostly with silence and participation has been low
with irc meetings that the board has come up with. So something is
going on. Are you busy? Do you not care? What is your enthusiasm
 level?

I'm being blunt because we should have a blunt conversation. If you
don't want to tell me on-list, you can tell me off list. I think most
of you know that I take a soft touch both internally and externally in
GNOME. You should not be afraid to tell me what you are feeling.

The engagement team has spent a lot of time working on our external
engagement, but I think it's time we focused on internal engagement.
 Organizational health so to speak.

My goal is to have an engaged foundation. I want and need your
 active participation.

If you have a hostile response, or something fairly controversial I
would prefer that you email me off list, and I will summarize it on
the list. One thing I want to do is control the conversation without
it going into the hinterlands. We need to have effective
communication. Whatever we can't solve we will take it up at GUADEC
as a BOF or as part of the general GUADEC meeting. Whatever problems
we have, we will solve it as one team. Together. So use your
judgement, as we are all adults.

So, let's spend the weekend and casually talk about GNOME!!

Call for Participation: Study on user reporting of Usability and UX Issues

2013-06-21 Thread Fabiana Simões

Hi,

I'm a Masters candidate at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil, and am investigating how to support Free and Open
Source Software (FOSS) users in reporting Usability and User Experience
issues. This research aims to align the information needed by designers
working on FOSS projects with the information provided by FOSS users in
their reports.

I'd like to invite you to participate on a study where you will be
requested to report Usability and User Experience issues using an
specific form. The goal of this study is to evaluate and improve this
form and this form only, observing how well it is able to communicate
what are the kinds of information needed.

Your *participation in the study involves reporting any Usability and
User Experience issues you experience with software*. You are not
required to use any specific software for this study. You can report
issues experienced with your computing environment of use, and with any
desktop, web or mobile applications.

In case you accept to participate in the study, you will be welcome to
report Usability or User Experience issues using a provided form
whenever you observe an issue or have an unpleasant experience with a
piece of software. The study will run until the*July 6th, 2013*. The
form is available in English, but you are welcome to fill it both in
English and Portuguese.

*
**If you wish to participate in the study* (or have any questions about
it), please, drop me an email at fabianapsim...@gmail.com and I will
forward you further instructions.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks Max, Emmanuele and Andreas for the replies!

Having the minutes of the Board meetings is certainly helpful. Problem is,
IMO, that the granularity of the information there is way to high to inform
the broader progress and accomplishments of the Board.

That's a great idea as a way to keep an open communication channel with the
Foundation. However, I'm not opposed to the idea of the report as an
additional resource. With these reports every 2-3 months, one would only
need to check a couple of emails (wiki pages, blog posts or whatever form
they take) to be able to have an idea of what the Board is up to and, in
elections time, make an informed vote. Additionally, if the reports are
indeed desirable, it's the role of the Foundation Members to make sure the
Board make they happen.

If something like a e-mail with a status report from the board to

That sounds like an excellent idea, except calling it a status report is a
 guarantee it won't happen regularly.

If you're announcing things to members, they're not involved. If you're
