Re: Is there an easier way?

2010-10-19 Thread Roger Shuttleworth
Hi David

Further to what Nadine has said:

1. You can use conditional text in FrameMaker to "condition out" your
screenshots before converting to Help. We use conditions such as BookOnly or
HelpOnly, along with different coloured condition indicators. Display only the
appropriate conditions before creating the Help.

2. To handle your cross-reference formats, you can use a dummy template. In
that template you define the cross-ref format with the same name as in your
regular template, but edit the format to contain only the Heading. Then when
you are ready to create your help, import cross-ref formats from the dummy
template into your documents. You can do that on a book-wide basis in a single
operation.

I'm afraid I don't understand your second question...

Hope this helps.

Subject: Is there an easier way?

Hi everyone,

This may be a procedural question. I write my manual (approx. 400 pages)
using Frame 7.2. It includes lots of screenshots and cross references.
To create my Help (.chm using ePublisher Pro), I make a copy of the
entire book folder, strip out most of the screenshots, and have to
change the cross reference format from Heading and Page to just Heading.

  I have 2 questions:

1)Is there an easier way to change the cross reference format
  (perhaps globally), and

2)Is there a way I can change the files the cross references
reference from the original book to the Frame Help files?

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to make this easier and less
  labor intensive?

  Thank you,

  David Millis

Installing TCS 2.0 in Windows 7, 64-bit

2010-10-19 Thread Joseph Lorenzini
Hi all,

I thought this question had been answered but I didn't see anything in the
framemaker archives. Beginning of next year, my company is going to force me
to upgrade from Win XP Professional, SP3, 32-bit to Win 7, 64-bit. Has
anyone installed the Technical Communication Suite 2.0 (including FrameMaker
and Robohelp) into win 7, 64-bit system? If so, did you experience any
problems? I know FrameMaker 7 and Robohelp 8 are both individually supported
on Win 7 but I am concerned about the integration features. I generate help
systems by link FrameMaker books into Robohelp. I am wondering if that will
be affected.

Sincerely,
Joseph Lorenzini

1. Redefine the cross reference formats in one file and import them across
all the book files. ImportFormatsSpecial is a great utlity to make short
work of this.
2. Use conditional text to include or exclude screenshots.

I like using the SolidWorks eDrawings and often prefer it because too many
times the engineers are either too busy to give me the drawings or the views
I need. It has been far easier to ask for .easm files that have been saved
for eDrawings. Then I open the file, rotate it to show what I need and hide
those elements that I do not need. Then I print the result to a PDF, which I
can import into Illustrator if needed.

Thanks everybody for lots of advice and suggestions.

We don't have access to Solidworks itself, only the 3D e-drawing (.easm)
that is supplied by the project engineer. We use the Solidworks eDrawings
Viewer to manipulate the model to get the illustration that we need.
Unfortunately, if we want to export a vector, its 'all or nothing'
- which is probably why the resulting image renders so slowly on screen.

I agree that in a perfect world the engineer would create all the
illustrations we need as 2D PDFs directly from Solidworks; or we would have
another Solidworks licence so that we could do it ourselves. In our
imperfect world, we have to make do with the eDrawing.

I've concluded its best to use a bitmap wherever possible, and a vector only
when absolutely necessary.

Jo

the same.

Anyone knows what's going on and how to solve this?

2010-10-19 Thread Spectrum Writing
You can change the cross-reference globally in eP. You don't have to do it
in Framemaker. It changes just the x-ref format in the .chm output, not in
the FM source. Also, you don't have to manually strip out your screenshots
either. You can either conditionalize them the FM source, or you can set a
paragraph tag such as FigureAnchor for the anchored frame that they are
contained in and set the output for the tag to no output in eP. All this is
available from the Styles interface in eP. What version of eP are using and
yes, I would join the wwp-users group on Yahoo as recommended as well.

RE: Is there an easier way?

Hi, David:

I recommend that you post this to the Yahoo WebWorks user group, too:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/wwp-users/messages?o=1

Which version of ePub are you using?

I recommend that you set the cross-reference format in ePublisher.

If you don't want most images, but you want some, set up a marker in your FM
files for the images you don't want, and then set up ePublisher not to generate
them. How to do that should be in your ePublisher online help.

You shouldn't have to copy your FM files to create the online help. If you
want, you can create a different book for your online help that uses the same
chapter files. For instance, you might want your chapters to appear in a
different order, or you want to create additional FM files for your chm.

Hope that helps to get you started,

Nadine

urgent : Framemaker 8 reg error after installing updates ...

2010-10-19 Thread Wim Hooghwinkel - idtp
Hi,

I have a class tomorrow on Framemaker 8. On my laptop (Win Vista) I
installed FM8 and added all the updates - but then FM won't start and gives
the error: 'registry information is invalid or missing'. After re-installing
the same.

Anyone knows what's going on and how to solve this?

Thanks..
