We noticed this years ago, and our solution was to include two images in the
file, one for online viewing, and one for print.

We included a jpg (I think) for online FM viewing, and a PDF for print and
PDF production.

When the image embedded in the resulting pdf is zoomed, the resolution is
excellent, not so with at jpg.

Re: [Framers] PDF Images are Pixelated when imported into FM11

2018-03-15 Thread kou...@kouroo.info
My memory is not as good as it was when I was in my 70s, but this sounds like a
problem I had once upon a time. As I remember, the cause was that some Adobe
programmer had his copy of FM set to low-resolution because, while he was
programming, there was no need for full-resolution images. But then when he or
she put the revision out to the world, he or she failed to remove that
low-resolution setting.

My memory is that there are two places in the software in which the resolution
of an image can be lowered, one place being for the users and the other place
being reachable by the Adobe programmers, and it is the latter that controls
the former rather than the former the latter.

My memory of this is that the problem got resolved like overnight when someone
pointed out to this Adobe software engineer, that he or she had yet again
fucked up.

A contributor created some flowcharts within Word. By the time I get them, the
squares and arrows are all over the place, so I asked them to give me a PDF of
each image.

All the PDFs appear with suitable resolution, and some, when imported retain
the resolution (viewed at 400%). Just some, appear low and there doesn't seem
to be a reason between them.

Re: [Framers] PDF Images are Pixelated when imported into FM11

2018-03-15 Thread Rick Quatro
It's not quite binary. If the PDF you are importing was created with High
Quality Print or Press Quality settings then it should display nicely in
FrameMaker. If it was created with Smallest File Size or some other lesser
quality settings, then it may look bad in FrameMaker.

So, if the output is fine I recommend letting it go.

Since FM format is not your deliverable, then it doesn't matter how FM
actually renders the image to your screen.

I wonder if somehow FM is using N EPS version of the image and displaying
the Tiff preview or some equivalent?

Cheers.

Re: [Framers] PDF Images are Pixelated when imported into FM11

No., not at the specific step in the workflow

If it can't, it can't. This is a binary issue;

Yes | No

Maybe it doesn't to you or to me, but you and I don't count.

If what I'm looking for doesn't exist, then I just need to know.

So, if the output is fine I recommend letting it go.

Since FM format is not your deliverable, then it doesn't matter how FM actually
renders the image to your screen.

I wonder if somehow FM is using N EPS version of the image and displaying the
Tiff preview or some equivalent?

Cheers.

Re: [Framers] PDF Images are Pixelated when imported into FM11

2018-03-15 Thread TW Smith
Hi,

I don't actually know. I rarely import PDF into anything. I see PDF as a
destination format, so I would import the file from which the PDF is
created, be it EPS, png, or what have you.

I guess one use case might be to show a form or something. In that case I
would import the PDF because importing Word, et al., would not have the
desired effect. However, in that case, I might be stuffing a 8.5*11 inch
image into my 6-inchtext column, so I would expect the screen display to
reflect that downsizing and omission of pixels.

[Framers] PDF Images are Pixelated when imported into FM11

2018-03-15 Thread john . x . posada
Hi, guys...when I import PDFs into my FM 11 document, the image that I see is
often pixelated.

I think this is attributed to low rez for viewing, but I don't remember what
changes to make to show a normal resolution image.

Thanks
