[Frameworks] Looking for submissions of direct-on-film work
Hi Frameworkers, I've been working with 35mm double exposure textures in stills and now I'm trying some moving image experiments, https://vimeo.com/155451413 This is a brief sample from a rough cut using some textures from Stan Brakhage's films. For the final cut we're looking for some original direct-on-film work. Open to all ideas (drawing, writing, painting, optical print work) Very low budget but small stipend if your work is accepted for final cut, thanks and please send links to carriemakesmov...@gmail.com Cheers! -- *Carrie Schreck, cool chick. * * <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< 415>730>1146 *>>> *temple ad hoc *<http://templeadhoc.wordpress.com/> * Los Angeles-based, artist-run space.* *rad/rad/rad * <https://www.facebook.com/pages/RadRadRad/272315020109?ref=hl> * Mostly mopeds, FB.* ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks

[Frameworks] Hand-processing Color Film in LA?
Hi FW, I'm looking for someone in LA who is experienced in hand-processing color C-41. I'm interested in trying a technique where I dip-dye unexposed film in India ink, let it dry then shoot with it. Obviously this will ruin any lab's chemicals when they process so i'll need to do this step myself, but only have a darkroom set up for black and white. Anyone in LA point me to a home-hobbyist who might be willing to play with this technique? Re: [Frameworks] VOBS FLV to AVI converter (PC/ubuntu)?
I wonder if you can't get MPEG streamclip for Linux? great free program for converting. maybe adobe media encoder could handle as well. there's also a program called handbrake. I'm guessing you're making a festival/screening viewer for a showcase from different contributors? I've had the best luck using mpeg streamclip to make everything .h264 4x3 (i letter-boxed anything that was 16.9). then i output all of them as one big file through final cut (you could use premier). that way you can control the time between each or add titles if you'd like. in the future, tell your contributors you need them all to submit a standard def .h264, this will save you a lot of headaches on your end -Carrie Schreck carrieschreck.com On Tue, May 15, 2012 at 7:59 AM, Herb Theriault he...@theria.ca wrote: Ffmpeg is likely your best bet, either from the command line, or one of the front ends. Re: [Frameworks] Data Recovery
I like a place called Drive Savers, I've used them on a few projects for very important footage, they are able to rescue data 99% of the time and the one time they couldn't they kindly sent it back to me with no charge. If your data is important to you it's worth hiring an expert, in my opinion. On a side note, I was on a project once where 3 days footage was inadvertently wiped, Data Rescue did the trick, San Disk was also giving out a free trial on recovery software that's worked everytime on CFs and SDs. My two cents Carrie Schreck carrieschreck.com On Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 4:07 PM, Bill Seery b...@mercermedia.com wrote: Before sending it to anyone, I would crack the case and try mounting it internally or buy an inexpensive enclosure or SATA (if it is SATA) dock and see if it spins up. I have had external drives actually go on fire and have been able to recover them. It's usually the power supply or interface that goes, though drive failures can occur. There can also be issues with corrupt directories that can be resolved with software. If you can get it to spin but can't get it to mount try Data Rescue II if you're on a Mac. I've had good luck with it. You can try it for free to see what it can recovery and then purchase it. You'll need a second drive to copy recovered files to. I would stay away from any software that tries to fix the drive like Norton or Diskwarrior. Re: [Frameworks] caffenol processing with 16mm
Hi Christine, the process I read about was coffee, vit C, AND washing soda, I'm not opposed to using all 3 but I think washing soda may be hard to find in southern california. Basically I want to shoot the hi-con and experiment with degrading it during processing to give it some nice brakhage esque texture; bubbles, scratches, i'd like to figure out a good technique for solarizing, etc. any recommendations? also do you order your 7378 through kodak directly, if so what's your contact. Thanks! -Carrie On Fri, Jan 6, 2012 at 12:09 PM, Christine Lucy Latimer christinelucylati...@gmail.com wrote: The suggestion to use sodium carbonate (washing soda) is a good one. It's MUCH more economical than vitamin C as an activator, blends faster with coffee and therefore produces cleaner results on your film. I've processed a great deal of film (motion and still) with caffeinol (my most recent hi-con process was using expired, 12 year old 7378 from my freezer, and it worked beautifully). If you don't object to lengthier developing times, you can substitute the coffee in your caffeinol mix with anything containing caffeic acid...such as black/green tea or red wine (wine is obviously more expensive, but it's a great thing to try at least once. Just as with coffee, the cheaper the wine, the better the developer.) -- Forwarded message -- From: Jason Halprin jihalp...@yahoo.com To: Experimental Film Discussion List frameworks@jonasmekasfilms.com Cc: Date: Thu, 5 Jan 2012 13:46:16 -0800 (PST) Subject: Re: [Frameworks] caffenol processing with 16mm?
