There is a patch for glib20 in the cited thread, not committed until know, because there is some more discussion and testing of side effects in the background. Re: libc++ port's undesired side effects (was: graphics/rawtherapee: r342622 crashes on HEAD)
Baptiste, Bryan, we may want to move the port's libc++.so (and requisites) into a subdirectory so we don't lump it in a ports standard library path. See below for more, look for your name if pressed for time. Rainer Hurling wrote earlier today: > Yes, this presumption is right. [Moved here from end of Rainer's message:] > #ldd /usr/local/bin/darktable | grep c++ > libc++.so.1 => /usr/local/lib/libc++.so.1 (0x4690e000) It does not create a dependency in the strict sense. The port only states it needs libc++.so.1 (and libcairomm-1.0.so.1 to pick a random sample, and many others), and it states a run-time linker path extension (RPATH) tag. Which actual library file is used by the run-time linker is _not_ recorded in the binary but resolved in the order specified in the "ld.so" manual page, and according to that search path, it just happens that /usr/local/lib/libc++.so.1 shadows /usr/lib/libc++.so.1. Now you found out in your run-time experiment that you are able to remove /usr/local/lib/libc++.so.1, and you will then find that the same ldd command as you show below would resolve from /usr/lib/libc++.so.1 instead of /usr/local/lib/libc++.so.1. And that is the reason why I have not recorded a run-time dependency in Rawtherapee's Makefile on systems that have libc++ in a default base install. Baptiste: We might want to move libc++.so to a subdirectory from /usr/local/lib so we might detect incompatibilities between base and port libc++.so sooner. Possible locations are: /usr/local/lib/c++/v1 to mirror the include file structure, or /usr/local/c++/v1/lib, and moving headers to /usr/lcoal/c++/v1/include, to share a common prefix for CPPFLAGS -I options and LDFLAGS -L options. >>> #pkg info -r libc++-200683 >>> libc++-200683: >>> rawtherapee-4.0.12_1 >>> darktable-1.2.3_3 Baptiste, Bryan, and that appears to be an artifact of pkg, and a (possibly deliberate "regression"). These dependees should not be listed. Please abstain from hasty commits to just the libc++, we'll need to coordinate our changes in proper cadence to avoid bringing lots of compatibility baggage in, and to avoid breaking the ports that require the libc++ in some way. The port explicitly specifies a BUILD_DEPENDS, so we should not have a run-time dependency. pkg_add does not report such a bogus dependency. I think we may want to either change pkg to not record BUILD_DEPENDS, or if that is not desired, revise the install layout of the libc++ port so that the port would normally reference /usr/lib/libc++.so if present, to avoid adding the run-time dependency. ___ freebsd-ports@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ports To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-ports-unsubscr...@freebsd.org"

Yes, this presumption is right. After 'pkg delete -f libc++-200683 libcxxrt-20131225_1' I am able to use rawtherapee furthermore. So ports like RawTherapee would also work, when devel/libc++ and devel/libcxxrt would be deinstalled right after successfull installation of the port. My problem is more the other side around: Why do ports like e.g. graphics/darktable pick up the headers from devel/libc++ instead of the base ones? In darktable there is no devel/libc++ dependency specified. Installing graphics/darktable, while devel/libc++ is already installed, creates a dependency. This will jumble up the dependency list in ports/packages and should not happen. Only ports with a declared dependency on devel/libc++ should use this port. > >> #pkg info -r libc++-200683 >> libc++-200683: >> rawtherapee-4.0.12_1 >> darktable-1.2.3_3 >> >> #ldd /usr/local/bin/darktable | grep c++ >> libc++.so.1 => /usr/local/lib/libc++.so.1 (0x4690e000) > ___ freebsd-ports@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ports To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-ports-unsubscr...@freebsd.org"

This implementation has been backed out again after the release, so iconv_open returns -1 again when you request WCHAR_T conversion. The crash happens when an application doesn't test for errors and assumes the return value is a valid pointer. ___ freebsd-ports@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ports To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-ports-unsubscr...@freebsd.org"

This wanted behaviour is included in the ports Makefile for OpenMP reasons. Rawtherapee 4.0.12 is using GCC 4.8 exclusively: - base clang lacks OpenMP support - and OpenMP really speeds up RT if there are multiple processors to distribute load onto - base clang still has the pathological compile time/RAM use issue you filed bugs about when we were discussing Rawtherapee 4.0.11, and GCC 4.6 and 4.7 also crash with internal compiler errors. Since 4.8 works, I forwent filing reports because I did not intend to hunt down all those cases and waive most of the optimizing. If you want to see how clang fares compiling rawtherapee, use a 10.x system, remove the USE_GCC and force OpenMP to off (unless you happen to have an OpenMP-aware clang). signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

I have marked the port BROKEN on OSVERSION >= 1100000. If someone wants to use rawtherapee on 11, he'll have to do some digging/debugging; and the port build is still possible by adding TRYBROKEN=yes to the make command line, and possibly WITH_DEBUG=yes on several of the requisites and on rawtherapee itself, or I'll need to collect at least three plausible reports from FreeBSD 11 systems that rawtherapee works there. ___ freebsd-ports@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ports To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-ports-unsubscr...@freebsd.org"

Re: graphics/rawtherapee: r342622 crashes on HEAD
Hi Rainer, this is more useful as a backtrace in itself, but I don't know how to make heads or tails of it; the interesting parts appear to be in frames #5 (meaning that you might need to reinstall glibmm WITH_DEBUG=yes) and #8/#9 (where the whole call chain starts). I can say that rawtherapee starts properly for me on 9.2-RELEASE and 10.0-RELEASE amd64 (the former has packages built from source, the latter uses binary packages installed with pkg upgrade), even with aggressive optimization. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to debug highly complex ports on any STABLE/UNSTABLE/HEAD tree. My ports work is limited to what I can do on -RELEASE. So I propose to 1. first trying the libc++.so mapping that Baptiste Daroussin has proposed, and if that does not help, 2. hack the Makefile to use only -O for optimization and then see in the frames #9/#8 if the string passed down is properly initialized, and in frame #5 what data arrives and why glibmm fails to convert it. Also make sure that all requisites of rawtherapee are up to date, there have been many changes to a few of the requisites lately. > Okay, here it comes. I have given up on compiling RawTherapee with clang++ for now, and use GCC 4.8 on all systems. Also, if you recompile rawtherapee without the highly aggressive compiler flags, does that help? I saw warnings about undefined behaviour in aggressive loop optimization, not sure if those are the culprit. If they are, we might need to tune down optimization a bit. Thanks. graphics/rawtherapee 4.0.10 issue
Hi, I have updated the port for rawtherapee 4.0.10, the new version is totally awesome.. There is one issue that I do not understand how to address in my port. Since rawtherapee uses OpenMP / libgomp it links to /usr/lib/libgomp.so which is from base gcc, and too old. even if gcc4.6 is specified in the port it seems to link to gomp in /usr/lib.. my current work-around is to update: /etc/libmap.conf libgcc_s.so.1 gcc46/libgcc_s.so.1 libgomp.so.1 gcc46/libgomp.so.1 libobjc.so.3 gcc46/libobjc.so.2 libssp.so.0 gcc46/libssp.so.0 libstdc++.so.6 gcc46/libstdc++.so.6 then after make install, rawtherapee is linked to the proper libstdc++ and libgomp. and runs perfectly.. yay. SO the question is, how do I address this issue in the port Makefile?? using USE_GCC=4.6 does not seem to get it to link to the gcc4.6 libraries for some reason, I'm missing something. Here is the port if you want to test it. (I would like to solve the libmap issue and then submit properly with PR) https://dx.burplex.com/rawtherapee-port.tar.gz Here are some notes about what is updated: Update Makefile rawtherapee to 4.0.10 Notes: removed files/patch-AboutThisBuild.cmake removed files/patch-CMakeLists.txt These changes are no longer required with updated cmake files in wrksrc added canberra-gtk3:${PORTSDIR}/audio/libcanberra-gtk3 to LIB_DEPENDS. This depency will pull in x11-toolkits/gtk30 which cannot be built by base gcc because of a duplicate typdef of PointerBarrier in XInput2.h, however gcc4.6+ (tested with gcc4.8) will build gtk30 (and possibly clang, untested) USE_GNOME= gtk30 added USE_GCC= 4.6 (needs newer libgomp.so in /usr/local/lib/gcc46, base libgomp doesn't work) added cmake:outsource to avoid CMake error about in-source build updated pkg-plist Thanks so much for any help/pointers. -- Waitman Gobble San Jose California USA +1.5108307875 ___ freebsd-ports@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ports To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-ports-unsubscr...@freebsd.org"
[CFT] graphics/rawtherapee 4.0.10
Hi. Here is the update: http://people.freebsd.org/~rm/rawtherapee4010.diff.txt builds fine on 8/9 with gcc46+ (build is broken with gcc 4.2.1). build is also broken on current (amd64 r247812) with this message: """ [ 6%] Building CXX object rtengine/CMakeFiles/rtengine.dir/flatcurves.cc.o In file included from /usr/include/sys/stat.h:99:0, from /usr/local/include/glib-2.0/glib/gstdio.h:26, from /home/rm/learn/free/004/graphics/rawtherapee/work/rawtherapee-4.0.10/rtengine/curves.cc:20: /usr/include/sys/time.h:134:17: error: 'sbintime_getsec' declared as an 'inline' variable /usr/include/sys/time.h:134:17: error: 'sbintime_t' was not declared in this scope /usr/include/sys/time.h:135:1: error: expected ',' or ';' before '{' token /usr/include/sys/time.h:140:17: error: 'sbintime_t' does not name a type """ but if I understand correctly it's not rawtherapee-specific. There were similar errors reported today for other ports. If anybody know how to fix that, feel free to patch. Side effect of switching to gcc46+ may be fixing ports/171079, there was report that rawtherapee works more stable with more fresh gcc versions. Please report any success/failures. graphics/rawtherapee
Hi, is it possible to push graphics/rawtherapee to version 4.0.9.50? On the last weekend I talked to a develoer of rawtherapee and he told me about some new noise reduction algorythyms... ...and he told me, the the developers often don't like it, to make a new major, so it is often a lot(!) new stuff in the change of some minor version steps.. so.. 4.0.9.1 is totaly diferent to 4.0.9.15, which is totaly different to 4.0.9.50, etc... It requires devel/mercurial to be installed. AFAICT it's a build dependency only, so you can remove it again after the rawtherapee build completes. You are right. But why not including a BUILD_DEPENDS= in the ports makefile, then? Two things. 1. It's probably best to include the maintainer on an initial report like this. Thanks for the hint. I mailed stas@ offlist yesterday but get no reaction until now. 2. Do you have files/patch-About-Linux.cmake? It was committed at 2011/08/07 21:27:31 and should be what drops the dependency on hg. It seems that the patch does not work as expected.
