(.5-hearted ha ha) There's been some contention between AOL and the Gaim project for a long time. Initially, it was typically spelled GAIM (all caps), but that was too close to AIM for AOL's taste, so they only capitalized the first letter -- making it Gaim. Apparently, that wasn't good enough, either. Now it's Pidgin instead. I guess the only downside to the new name is that I can't make "I've got Gaim(game)!" jokes about it now. Well, I could, but they wouldn't make much sense. -- CCD CopyWrite Chad Perrin [ http://ccd.apotheon.org ] Marvin Minsky: "It's just incredible that a trillion-synapse computer could actually spend Saturday afternoon watching a football game." ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

Well the portforward has to be done on the router, and the clients need to know which ports they "own" on the inet ip. It's part of the file sending protocol (at least icq and irc work that way) So a portforward table which defines which ports are forwarded to which ip is imho the only option. -- Armin Pirkovitsch [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

Ports and Gaim
Hi all, I upgraded the ports tree and installed a few things, everything went ok untill I installed gaim. As soon as it went in, the menus in gnome went funny, ie the applications menu went to about 2 pixels wide, so I logged out to log back in again hoping that would fix it, unfortunately gdm no has no menus and I can't type anything into the username field etc. So I'm now locked out of gnome/gdm and can't log back in. The only dependancy that wasn't up to scratch for gaim was pango, so I updated that, now I assume it is this that has buggered gnome. What is the easiest resolution, upgrade gnome to 2.6? I don't fancy a reinstall of the os, I just compiled open office 1.1.2 from scratch and can't be bothered waiting for that again :o) Thanks in advance, Craig ___ [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

Things will be easier if you install (and use) sysutils/portupgrade It's best to use /etc/make.conf for world and kernel settings, and for general compiler settings; and use /usr/local/etc/pkgtools.conf for port settings. Anything in make.conf is seen by every build, but portupgrade reads per port settings from pkgtools.conf and passes them into make. On Saturday 07 August 2004 11:50, Joshua Banks wrote: > Oh boy... I ran "make fetch-recursive" in the "/usr/ports/security/gaim-encryption" dir yesterday. What I forgot to do was "make install clean". I've done this twice now with other "ports". I'm learning. Heh.. When I checked "/var/db/pkg" I didn't see "gaim-encryption" as one of the packages listed. I'm pretty certain that Gaim didn't build with NSS support but I don't see any errors when running "gaim -d". I don't see anything related to gaim-encryption or NSS being loaded either. So it appears that Gaim isn't being built with NSS support. So if I don't have an "/etc/make.conf" then how do I force Gaim to build with NSS support when it compiles? If you don't have WITHOUT_NSS set in /etc/make.conf or in your environment, then Gaim should be built with NSS support. You might try running gaim -d from the command line, and see if it throws an error trying to load the encryption plug-in. Joe > > Thanks, > Joshua Banks > > __ > Do You Yahoo!? > Tired of spam? Thats really weird that I don't have this file in place. I can figure out what needs to be done but what I find really weird is why don't they mention the "/etc/make.conf" file before or during Chapter 8 of the handbook (Configuring the FreeBSD Kernel). Gaim-Encryption
I've looked on Google and the mailing archives and don't really find anything were others are complaining about the same issue. So I'm assuming because I'm new to FreeBSD that I'm overlooking something. I made sure that my ports tree was synced with the most upto date ports. I went into the "/usr/ports/net/gaim" and did "make fetch-recursive" and then "make install clean". Among other things this compiled the newst version of Gaim V 0.80. No problems. This works great. But now I would like to use encyption so I goto "/usr/ports/security/gaim-encyption" and do "make fetch-recursive" and then "make install clean". This compiled fine. Gaim-Encryption v2.28. But when I open up Gaim to load the Encryption-Plugin it doesn't show up listed at all. I tried rebooting and still the same. I tried "deinstalling Gaim and the reinstalling. Still the same thing.. Does anyone have Gaim working with Gaim encryption? I've looked in the "MAKE" files but I'm unsure of what to do if anything. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Joshua Banks __ Do you Yahoo!? Y! Re: gaim error
> Fatal error 'Spinlock called when not threaded.' at line 83 in file > /mnt/s10/BSD/usr_src/lib/libpthread/thread/thr_spinlock.c (errno = 0) Hmm, as I thought, there's something wrong with your threads. Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with FreeBSD 5 (yet ;-), but the [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list will certainly assist you to fix it. Unless you find a different solution, I'd suggest that you ask you question there again (together with all the information you gave me). A good idea is also to build a debugging version of gaim and provide a backtrace: /etc/make.conf: CFLAGS=-O -pipe -g STRIP= The reinstall gaim, and once it crashes, either gather a backtrace with bugbuddy (it should be started automatically if it's installed), or with gdb: gdb gaim gaim.core (the enter 'bt' at the gdb prompt). > I haven't had time to look into Michael's suggestions, maybe I'll give it > a go tonight. I generally dislike the idea of manually building things that are in the ports collection, but don't feel discouraged to do same investigations ;-) - you lose the control about your installed software - if the problem is in the ports collection, others will have the same problem, so it's better to fix it globally Cheers, Simon signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Unpack it and then do a "./configure --with-gnutls-includes=PREFIX (Location of GNUTLS includes.) --with-gnutls-libs=PREFIX (Location of GNUTLS libraries.)" eg.. Mine looked like this: "./configure --disable-nls --disable-perl --with-gnutls-includes=/usr/local/lib/ --with-gnutls-libs=/usr/local/lib/" I only know English so, --disable-nls and for some reason I can't get perl to compile with it so, --disable-perl. Everything worked fine after that. Hope this helps you. gaim error
Hi all. I am trying to get the gaim port to work. If I build with: make WITHOUT_NSS=1 everything is fine, but I can't connect to msn. If I don't send any arguments to make, when I run gaim, I get: Fatal error 'Spinlock called when not threaded.' at line 83 in file /mnt/s10/BSD/usr_src/lib/libpthread/thread/thr_spinlock.c (errno = 0) zsh: abort gaim This has been happening for a couple of weeks, and I was hoping that it would be fixed. Now I'm wondering if my system is the problem. Here's my kernel config. Talk Filters and Gaim...
hello all, just wondering if any of you has had luck getting the talkfilters port integrated with gaim? i tried applying the patches included with the talkfilters port, but no dice. i suspect that this failure has much to do with the difference between the version of gaim for which the patches were written and the version of gaim i am running (0.74). excerpt of talkfilters gaim-patch README: This patch is provided for interested hackers only, not for end users. Familiarity with UNIX and C development is assumed. Please DO NOT email me if you need help appying this patch. This directory structure contains a skeleton of the gaim-0.59.8 source tree. well, i'm not familiar with UNIX or C development (and i'm definitely not e-mailing the author of talkfilters... heheh), so i turn to you, the other users. i would really appreciate it if one of you could point me in the right direction. thanks. cheers, epi ___ [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

Re: Can't install gaim on FreeBSD 4.x
This is more a question of curiosity rather than a solution since I'm an admitted newbie, so treat this as an inquiry to the masses. Would portupgrade help in this case to upgrade and/or install a newer version of the Gaim source/port for you to use? For example, I just ran cvsup on a clean new system (4.9R on a Dell laptop) to download the latest ports and source and the version of Gaim in my ports is now 0.73, the latest release. I know I'm scattershooting, but maybe I'm helping shed some light. In /usr/share/examples/cvsup there are sample supfiles that I just edit and use. The ports-supfile will download all current ports from the CVS tree to /usr/ports, and the standard-supfile will download all current source for your version (mine happens to be 4.9R) to /usr/src. Maybe try that and installing from the latest ports for your OS version and see what happens. pkg_add -vr cvsup-without-gui (to install the text only version of CVSup) ** -v is not required...I just like the verbose output to see what is actually happening.** logout/log back in...as root go to /usr/share/examples/cvsup edit the appropriate supfile as you see fit...remembering to edit the CHANGE_THIS.FreeBSD.org line to reflect which CVSup mirror you want to hitexample cvsup5.FreeBSD.org. save changes and exit file(s) cvsup -g -L 2 ports-supfile cvsup -g -L 2 standard-supfile Just a few of my thoughts. Works fine for me on two different systems. No one else has reported this yet. You said this is a new system, but did you migrate an old .gaimrc? What version of freetype2 do you have installed? Font selection problem with GAIM 0.70 port
When in a "conversation" window, clicking on the "Font Face" button causes gaim-0.70 to spew the following to stderr: ** (gaim:199): WARNING **: Couldn't load font "fixed Medium Semi-Condensed 0" falling back to "Sans Medium Semi-Condensed 0" ** (gaim:199): WARNING **: Couldn't load font "Sans Medium Semi-Condensed 0" falling back to "Sans 0" ** (gaim:199): WARNING **: All font failbacks failed ...at which point the program exits. Googling this error message points to an improperly configured freetype2 library or fontconfig configuration. However, as far as I can tell, there are no configuration problems on my system: fc-list spits out 30 a number of fonts, although none that start with "Sans" proper. This is a brand new system, so unfortunately I'm unsure if previous versions of GAIM have worked properly. System: FreeBSD 4.8-RELEASE + latest security patches XFree86 4.3.0 with all stock fonts Related ports: freetype-1.3.1_2 gettext-0.12.1 gtk-2.2.4_1 glib-2.2.3 pango-1.2.5 (from ports-current as of 10/1/2003) If anyone has any ideas, or can at least confirm that they are experiencing the same problem with this version of GAIM, I'd really appreciate it.
