[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16964] Mfg. Plant + electrical plant bonus does not match Help
Follow-up Comment #3, bug #16964 (project freeciv): For older versions of the game, it might be best to change the rules to match what the docs say - otherwise they'll probably stay wrong for lots of languages. For the new release though, go with the simplest rules IMO. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?16964 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Follow-up Comment #6, patch #2218 (project freeciv): And this is correct since you don't use spechash_hash_insert(). spechash_hash_replace() always set the data and the key in the hash table. As spechash_hash_insert() doesn't, on failure, we used to forget to free the key and the data. I got a load of warnings for server settings that the 2.2 RC file specifies numerically, as numeric values are no longer accepted for boolean/enumerated/etc settings. These settings are now at the (2.3.x) defaults. This is a shame, especially as some settings _are_ accepted; I guess it might lead to an unplayable default configuration which users will have to fix up manually when they first play (say, startpos not matching size). Could we accept numeric settings at least when reading old RC-files? Can 2.3.x even still understand what the old numbers mean (now that they're stored textually in files, the numbers are effectively internal and could have changed), and will it continue to in future? (I haven't investigated this.) Console: 2: Didn't find '.freeciv-client-rc-2.3' option file, loading from '.freeciv-client-rc-2.2' instead. [Freeciv-Dev] [bug #17122] Saving server settings on client after game start saves mapseed and gameseed
URL: http://gna.org/bugs/?17122 Summary: Saving server settings on client after game start saves mapseed and gameseed Project: Freeciv Submitted by: jtn Submitted on: Sunday 11/21/10 at 15:06 Category: client Severity: 3 - Normal Priority: 5 - Normal Status: None Assigned to: None Originator Email: Open/Closed: Open Release: 2.2.x,2.3.x Discussion Lock: Any Operating System: None Planned Release: ___ Details: A user can unwittingly get non-zero gameseed and mapseed settings into their ~/.freeciv-client-rc-X.X (or equivalent on other OSs, presumably), and thereafter they will always get the same map from new client-started games forever. This doesn't seem ideal. (I've reproduced this on both S2_2 and S2_3 svn as of today, but I think it's longstanding -- I believe I've run into it in the past.) Steps to reproduce (with Gtk client, but it probably affects others too): 0 Start a game from the client. 0 Open Game Options Remote Server 0 (optionally) change something 0 Press the Save button. 0 Result: a ~/.freeciv-client-rc-X.X is written out with the current value of gameseed and mapseed. I can imagine running into this if you start a single-player game, decide halfway through that you like a different setting for (say) revolen and want to change this for the current and all future games -- in fact I imagine that's how I first noticed this. Not sure what to do about it. Can we avoid having the server autonomously change any settings? If so, we'd need to provide another way to read the current gameseed/mapseed. Alternatively we could treat those options as special in the client, but that's ugly. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?17122 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #17123] Client's server options Save button unintuitive
URL: http://gna.org/bugs/?17123 Summary: Client's server options Save button unintuitive Project: Freeciv Submitted by: jtn Submitted on: Sunday 11/21/10 at 16:47 Category: client-gtk-2.0 Severity: 1 - Wish Priority: 1 - Later Status: None Assigned to: None Originator Email: Open/Closed: Open Release: S2_3 r18553 Discussion Lock: Any Operating System: None Planned Release: ___ Details: I just ran into a behaviour in the Gtk client's server options dialog which had me confused for a while. However, I don't have a good counter-proposal. In S2_2 (where the choices were Cancel/Apply/Save), when you hit Save, the client: 0 applied the settings currently in the dialog to the running server; 0 wrote a new .freeciv-client-rc-2.2 file containing those same settings; 0 closed the dialog. In S2_3 (where the choices are Cancel/Save/Refresh/Reset/Apply/OK), hitting Save: 0 doesn't apply the settings currently in the dialog to the running server; 0 writes a new rc file containing the settings *currently on the server* (not the ones in the dialog); 0 doesn't close the dialog. I find this a bit unintuitive -- I'd expect Apply, OK, and Save all to take the values from the dialog and put them somewhere. This means that if you want to change a setting for this game and all future games, you have to remember to hit all of Apply, Save, OK, in that order -- the more natural Save, OK sequence won't save it for future games. I think I'd prefer it if Save came with an implicit Apply. This would mean that Reset would stop working after hitting Save, but I think I could live with that. (It would perhaps be better for the button to explicitly say Save Apply, but (a) there's no GTK_STOCK_x for that, (b) the buttons take up enough room as it is, (c) string freeze.) Unfortunately, it's not trivial to implement this, as the loop is now closed on the server; in S2_3, when Apply is pressed, all that happens is that the client sends new settings to the server; it immediately doesn't update its own idea of the settings. I think that's correct, as the server may reject or defer settings (e.g., votes) (but S2_2 did do this, see settable_options_processing()). The client's idea of the options only gets updated once the server confirms the new setting, which could take some time. With this design, it's not really practical to implement a Save Apply button. Alternatively, the means of saving the server settings to the rc-file could be moved off the server options dialog. I'm not sure where to, unless it becomes implicit in the client Save Options Now / Save Options on Exit (bug #17122 would need fixing first). I think this came in with patch #1485; I don't see rationale there one way or the other. (The other clients don't seem to have ways of saving server settings.) ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?17123 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Follow-up Comment #1, bug #17124 (project freeciv): Guide to the screenshots attached: * file #11321: The opening screen. There's nothing wrong with this; I assume this is how it's intended to look. * file #11322: However, things start going wrong in the pregame. We have an ugly rectangle hugging the settings and greyness outside, and an uneven grey rectangle around the bitwise option; worse, hovering the mouse over certain widgets turns them a vivid dark blue, which in addition to being weird, makes their dark text unreadable. ** (file #11323: Unlike the others, this is S2_2. The ugly-rectangles problem is even worse in S2_2.) * file #11324: Once the game has started, certain server options are greyed out. Except that some widgets appear to have gone a bright cyan instead. What's that about? * file #11325: The menus are the worst interaction with the light-text-on-dark-background Ambiance theme. Active menu items are black-text-on-dark-background and almost unreadable; inactive (greyed-out) come out light-on-dark with an ugly drop shadow, and stand out much more, which is the wrong way round. * file #11326: Checkboxes on dark menus are light-brown-on-grey so it's almost impossible to see if they're checked. * file #11327: Tabs on the main window have more ugly text-hugging brown rectangles. * file #11328: More ugly rectangles show up in the city dialog, in various places. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?17124 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Follow-up Comment #5, bug #17110 (project freeciv): Why? Resize the array as needed. If you hardcode the size then you will always have either way to many entries or not enough. I can also think of having a lot more images than 4 (or actually 8 with city walls). For example risk of pollution can add a smoke cloud (0-4 none, 5-9 light, 10+ heavy) over the city and risk of plague a red cross (0-4 none, 5-9 small, 10+ large). Hi Gav, Did you manage to get approval from the individual authors to redistribute under a GNU GPL license? The last time I checked, the only licensing terms available was the Creative Commons Sampling Plus 1.0 license, which AFAICT disallows commercial redistribution and hence would not qualify as a FLOSS license. Many Linux distros would refuse to redistribute Freeciv under these terms... Regards, Daniel On Wed, Nov 17, 2010 at 4:44 AM, Gavin van Lelyveld mdc...@gmail.com wrote: Hi all.
