I gave up on the CVS version and got DirectFB 0.9.20 to work, but it was difficult. I had to a) replace the Debian-supplied headers in /usr/include/{linux,asm} with the ones from 2.4.24; and b) hide /usr/include/linux/wm97xx.h to prevent DirectFB from trying to compile WM97xx Touchscreen support (no configure option for this afaik). But then compiling it and MPlayer-1.0pre3 both works, and mplayer can now play with -vo dfbmga:bes. Sweet! Next question: in playing DVDs mplayer seems to take about 40% CPU (with no sound---haven't gotten that working yet), but sometimes gives me the "your system is too SLOW to play this" message. I'm running an Athlon XP 2200 which, while not lighting speed, is surely sufficient to play a DVD. Is this comparable to what you and others are getting? Not that I really know but I have a G450 and had alot of trouble setting the card up to work with my TV, untill I found SDL and then it all worked fine somehow :) Might wanna give it a shot I found it alot simpler to setup then DirectFB, but I have virtually zero linux/gfx experience. // MickeM Youri van Gorselen wrote: I think u have CONFIG_MATROX_MAVEN in your kernel compiled. [Freevo-users] RAM advice
Folks - I run Freevo on an Epia 800 with 2.4.23 and epia-specific patches. The machine currently has 128MB of RAM. I have difficulties recording live television, for obvious reasons. Does anyone else use this board for Freevo? If so, how much RAM do you have on board? I'm trying to get a good idea of need before I purchase. As is, I don't plan to watch live TV with the unit, just recording of live TV, and playback for recorded TV and other videos. The unit only runs freevo; doesn't get used for any other purpose. There are definitely weird interactions with the Debian provision of /usr/include/linux (from the linux-kernel-headers package) and DirectFB 0.9.20, but even if I manually point /usr/include/linux and /usr/include/asm to the kernel 2.4.24 directories, I get compile errors with 0.9.20. RE: [Freevo-users] [OT] Distro of choice
I use slackware for things like freevo. faster, tighter and compiling and installing something from the developer of a app or library doesn't blow up because the distro makers think they know better than the app maker and move where it install's to. Redhat and mandrake are horrible for moving things to where they dont belong, I've never used debian so I dont know if they do the same thing, but slackware always works, and is really easy to strip down for embedded use like a freevo or box. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of FStruck Sent: Friday, January 23, 2004 3:57 PM To: Freevo-users Subject: Re: [Freevo-users] [OT] Distro of choice Am Fr, den 23.01.2004 schrieb Chris Griffiths um 21:11: > When you're compiling stuff like cvs versions of SDL and DirectFB which > distro is giving you less hassles? > > I've been using debian for years, but a lot of stuff is having issues > where debian has modified the stock kernel, or moved libraries/include > files around. > > I'm thinking of using slackware again - as from what I remember it's > pretty much standard - a lot less of what goes in gets patched before > release. > > Any thoughts? Re: [Freevo-users] using lirc transmitter to change video source channels
Hi, Creating a script and / or just calling rc/irsend from your VCR_CMD is certainly an easy way to do this but using an 'external tuner' plugin allows full integration into Freevo. You can both watch tv and record from an external source, and even have only a partial amount of your channels on that source. I wrote two external tuner plugins, irsend_echostar (for echostar sat receivers since they do things a bit different) and irsend_generic (a wrapper around rc/irsend). So in your care you would have something like this in your local_conf.py: plugin_external_tuner = plugin.activate('tv.irsend_generic', args=('/usr/bin/rc SEND_ONCE sky', )) An example VIDEO_GROUPS entry is: VIDEO_GROUPS = [ VideoGroup(vdev='/dev/video0', adev=/dev/dsp1, input_type='composite', input_num=5, tuner_type='external', desc='Sky', recordable=True), ] Here you see that we want to record/view from /dev/video0, /dev/dsp1, composite input (which is enumerated as input 5 in the drivers for this example), and we want to use an external tuner. When Freevo changes the channel it checks the VideoGroup for that chan for the tuner_type, and if it is 'external' then uses plugin_external_tuner to change the channel. Here's another example, using a pvr-x50 / ivtv card, an dexternal tuner, and channel 4 passthrough on the coax/tuner input: VIDEO_GROUPS = [ VideoGroup(vdev='/dev/video0', adev=None, input_type='tuner', input_num=4, tuner_norm='NTSC', tuner_chan='4', tuner_type='external', desc='Bell ExpressVu', group_type='ivtv', recordable=True), ] Here we are using /dev/video0, no audio device (since we get a complete mpeg stream), using the tuner input which in my case is input_num=4, my norm is NTSC, and using an external tuner. It also makes sure my card's tuner is set to channel 4 so I can see what's comming from my sattelite box. Accepted VideoGroup properties are: vdev:The video device, such as /dev/video. adev:The audio device, such as /dev/dsp. input_type: tuner, composite, svideo, webcam input_num: The number of this input according to V4L tuner_type: internal (on a v4l device), or external (cable or sat box) tuner_norm: NTSC, PAL, SECAM tuner_chanlist: us-cable, tuner_chan: If using input_type=tuner and tuner_type=external set this to what channel it needs to be to get the signal, usually 3 or 4. recordable: True or False. Can you record from this VideoGroup. desc:A nice description for this VideoGroup. group_type: Special variable to identify devices like dvb or ivtv. This can be left as default, 'normal', or set to 'ivtv' or 'dvb'. If you only have one VideoGroup here then Freevo will assume ALL of your TV_CHANNELS belong to that group. If you use the tv.irsend_generic plugin you might have to mess around with it because I can't use irsend or rc with my transmitter and receiver. Basicly it breaks the channel command '123' up and calls irsend SEND_ONCE 1 2 3. I'm not sure if that will send 1, 2, then 3 so some slign modification to the setChannel method may be required. RE: [Freevo-users] tv_grab_uk
RTE in Ireland produce their Teletext Pages online (the service is known as Aertel). This includes listings for RTE1, Network 2, BBC, ITV, Channel 4, etc. It wouldn't be a huge job to grab them, and using a perl script, convert them to XLMTV format. Alternatively, try putting pressure on the Networks themselves to offer their listings in XMLTV format. RE: [Freevo-users] using lirc transmitter to change video source channels
Well, I spoke to rob about VIDEO_GROUPS, and looked briefly at trying to set those up. However, it seemed overkill for my needs. In the end I just wrote a 6 line perl script that was called with the channel number as part of VCR_CMD immediately prior to mencoder. I don't know if I should submit it (being perl instead of python), but if anyone is curious, this is it: #!/usr/bin/perl -W my $input = $ARGV[0]; my @chan = split(//,$input); foreach $integer (@chan) { $command = "/usr/bin/rc SEND_ONCE sky $integer"; `$command`; } Seems to work quite well at any rate. AW: [Freevo-users] Web Interface download problems...
Hi, I had a similar problem. I tracked it down and created a diff I have posted last week. I have copied my posting below. Kind regards, Thorsten Hi, I have just encountered some problems when trying to download files with the freevo webserver. When clicking on the download link, it did load about the first 64k, but not further. In the webserver log file (/tmp/freevo/webserver-1001.log) I found ...Warning! request.finish called twice and two lines down ...Failure: exceptions.RuntimeError: Producer was not unregistered for /library.rpy/mm/Videos/... I have changed some lines in /usr/share/freevo/htdocs/library.rpy as given below. It seems that the server needs the result of File().render to know that it has to keep the connection open. request.finish is called inside File().render, so you won't need to do it yourself.
