I looked NOAD, but didn't test it: i don't have vdr, in the current form
NOAD
relies on vdr. However If NOAD doesnot has a black frame detection, NOAD
would cut parts
of a show (in the Netherlands).

[Freevo-users] Commercial break detection

2004-07-09 Thread Fons van der Beek
Hi all,

I did some work on detection of commercial breaks:
i tried several methods:

- Black frame detection from Matthieu Weber, i tried this one on recordings
from dutch channels, it worked EXTREMELY well: on 6 hours of recorded shows
not one error, a smooth detection!, it takes some time, but
what the heck, that's why the "nice" command was invented.

-Logo detection, i created a program which detects a Logo transmitted by the
serviceprovider, some screenshots of detected logo's are available on
http://213.10.252.115/commercial.pdf .but as i watched
the shows, i noticed that even when te logo detection would be 100% error
free:
1) The service providers blend in logos seconds after the show starts! or
the service providers starts with an animated logo, after seconds it went
static
2) The service providers use logo's WITHIN commercials to promote their own
marchandise or show previews of upcoming shows.
The only time logo detection would be usefull is when it can be used to
"forecast" if a given period is a movie:
suppose the minimum commercial length = 3 minutes, take a shot each three
minutes, if on consequent shots there is a logo, then the timespan between
the shots is 99,9% for certain not a commercial. (Taking a screenshot every
3 minutes takes allmost no time (1 hour movie, 2-3 minutes)) black frame
detection takes more time (of course depending on cpu speed)

-Soundlevel, the simple method I used was not usable and i doubt if this
would ever work (a war scene might be detected as commercial. if a more
suffisticated method would work, i dont know. it's also more time/cpu
consuming as i thought.

As far as i can see it for now, black frame detection is stable and usable
for the Netherlands, how to deal with this in other countries, i don't know
and i can't evaluate. For the Netherlands I tested SBS6, Veronica, Net 5 and
RTL 4.

Integrating the usage of an edl file within freevo is a piece of cake.

my 2 cents

Very, very strange. My local_conf.py was ok, I didn't modify it, but I
looked in the recordserver log and because I found nothing more than I

Could this mean anything to you?

In respect to your remark about the wheel, it s possible, if the used logo

While searching on the web i stumbled over this article

It looks like mythtv has implemented such a filter.

Edit MPlayer-1.0pre4/libmpcodecs/Makefile, find a line starting with
VFILTER_SRCS and add "vf_bfdetect.c" somewhere inside this line, without
breaking the line (i.e. dont let your text editor insert a linebreak).

Edit MPlayer-1.0pre4/mplayer.c, find the place where there is

 int verbose=0;
 int identify=0;
 static int quiet=0;

and add "int frameno = 0;" on the line after the "static int quiet=0;"

I also noticed that this patch changes the position of the time counter
in mplayer's OSD, so that it fits inside my TV, sorry for putting this
feature into the patch :( You can revert this by replacing
MPlayer-1.0pre4/libvo/sub.c with MPlayer-1.0pre4/libvo/sub.c.orig.

tvtoday.de is _very_ slow, but it works.

2004-07-09 Thread Martin Miller
Hi guys,
first of all thanks for your answers.
I've tried both ways, deleting the kika channel from the listing and
removing tv_sort from the local_conf.
Didn't help... but I've notized that it stopped fetching the TVprogram
sometimes at a different station. So I came to the conclusion tht it
might be a timeout problem. after shutting down all programms that
consume a lot of bandwidth it came a lot further than before, still
won't grab the whole listing :-)
but it seems to be the right direction.

The question is now is the timeout set by the provider of my listing or
by the fetching script?

Thanks anyways

Martin

I use the packard bell remote in lirc and its works fine (lirc_serial
dirver).

Your other no-cost option is to go to your local electrical store and ask
them for an old dvd remote, make sure its not sony as the packard bell
reciever doesn't understand them...

[Freevo-users] Freevo / LIRC remote recommendation.

2004-07-09 Thread Jon Scheer
Hi all,
First off, I hope I'm posting this to the right list. Perhaps I should
be posting this to the LIRC list, but since I'm dealing with Freevo, I
thought I'd post here first. My apologies if this is the wrong list.

I'm in the final stages of putting together a Freevo/VDR box (under
Fedora Linux), and I'm looking for recommendations on IR remotes that
work well with LIRC. I currently have a Packard Bell remote (and
receiver), and it sort of works -- it doesn't seem to be nearly as
reliable with normal Linux LIRC as it is with WinLIRC (I also use a
Packard Bell remote/receiver with WinLIRC on my Windows 2000 box to
control WinAmp, and that works fine). Plus, the Packard Bell remote
doesn't have quite enough buttons -- I'd like the remote to be more
DVD-like and have chapter forward/backward, fast forward, rewind, etc.

I'm going to need several of these remotes, as the TV feeds are all home
runned to several modulators, one which is connected to my Freevo/VDR
box. I also have distributed IR throughout the house so I can control
my home entertainment devices from any TV in the house.

Basically I see my options as (1) buy a bunch of DVD remotes, or (2) buy
a bunch of programmable remotes and program the DVD button. Since our
house is loaded with remotes already, I'd prefer to have a small remote.
Also, many programmable remotes don't have all the DVD buttons. On
eBay, I've seen small DVD-like remotes (xBox remotes, etc), but I'm not
sure if/how well they are supported under LIRC (I looked in the LIRC
remote database, but wasn't sure I was looking at the right ones). And
there are lots of entries in the LIRC remote database, so I'm not sure
which remotes work better than others.

Can anyone recommend a reliable, inexpensive, DVD (or DVD-like) remote?
Thank you for your time.

Basicly it is saying that self.record_app is None. Before that line in
the code you should see:

self.record_app = plugin.getbyname('RECORD')
That is aparently returning None, so can you check your local_conf.py?
You should have something like:

plugin_record = plugin.activate('tv.ivtv_record')
After the 1.5 release I will be making a couple changes to the plugin
code you allow for proper plugins for helpers. This means we won't need
the "plugin_record = " part.

If your config looks ok please check the recordserver log where it

Hm... i think it would be wise to remove plugin game from the freevo
configuration if you are using dfbmga. I tried almoust everything and
was unable to make xmame.sdl to work on dfbmga.
There was a patch for 0.8x older version of xmame to workaround troubles

If there is someone outthere who made it work I and probably others
would appreciate some info on it.

libSDL with support for directfb. When you rebuild SDL it _should_
detect your installed directfb (make sure you run ldconfig beforehand)
but you may nee to explicitly tell it where its installed. Then you
will have to rebuild pygame and hopefully it will work ok.

If its still broken maybe you can try using:
export SDL_DIRECTFB_MGA_CRTC2=1
export SDL_DIRECTFB_MGA_STRETCH=1
Before starting Freevo.

Edit MPlayer-1.0pre4/libmpcodecs/Makefile, find a line starting with
VFILTER_SRCS and add "vf_bfdetect.c" somewhere inside this line, without
breaking the line (i.e. dont let your text editor insert a linebreak).

> MPlayer-1.0pre4/mplayer.c.rej

Edit MPlayer-1.0pre4/mplayer.c, find the place where there is

 int verbose=0;
 int identify=0;
 static int quiet=0;

and add "int frameno = 0;" on the line after the "static int quiet=0;"

I also noticed that this patch changes the position of the time counter
in mplayer's OSD, so that it fits inside my TV, sorry for putting this
feature into the patch :( You can revert this by replacing
MPlayer-1.0pre4/libvo/sub.c with MPlayer-1.0pre4/libvo/sub.c.orig.

How can I tell freevo to how to 'see' .ogg files in the movie menu.I
get a few movies in that format. Mplayer and Xine can both play

ogg is audio, ogm is video. But if you want to add ogg files and you
are using Freevo 1.5.0-rc3, just add

VIDEO_MPLAYER_SUFFIX.append('ogg')
in your local_conf.py

[Freevo-users] [ANNOUNCE]: vdr_xine 0.2 - A VDR (DVB) plugin for Freevo

2004-07-09 Thread Ove Risberg
Hi again,

It should be vdr_xine not xdr_xine... sorry...

I have found and fixed a problem with vdr_xine in Freevo-1.5.0-rc4.

There have been 43 downloads but I have received no bug reports...
Does this mean that it works for everyone who has downloaded it or that
no one has tested it yet. Any comments are welcome.

You can download the new version from:
http://freevo.sourceforge.net/addons

Notes:
To use this plugin make sure that vdr with vdr-xine plugin is
already working (See vdr and vdr-xine documentation).
Run "freevo setup vdr_xine-0.2.tgz" and activate the plugin with
  plugin.activate('vdr_xine', level=5) in your config.
vdr must be started with the "-P'xine -r'" option before freevo
  can use this plugin.

Example:
  vdr -P'xine -r' -P'osdteletext -r' -Pttxtsubs -d

The plugin is only tested with the following setup:
  freevo1.5.0-rc2, 1.5.0-rc4
  vdr 1.3.10, 1.3.11 (with vdr-xine 0.3.4 or 0.4.2 plugin)
  xine-lib 1-rc4a, 1-rc5(with vdr-xine 0.3.4 or 0.4.2 patch)
  xine-ui 0.99.1, 0.99.2 (with vdr-xine 0.3.4 or 0.4.2 patch)

This is my first freevo plugin and my first Python program so if you
find anything strange or bugs in the code please email me or the
freevo-devel maillist so I can correct the error and learn from my
mistakes ;-).

IIRC, in France, some channels use (used to use?) green, blue or grey
frames instead of black. A friend reported that Arte uses no special frame
at all.

At least in Finland, most shows don't have teletext subs (but all
foreign shows have normal subs inside the picture).

There could be an audio filter doing this in mplayer too, if someone
writes it. The results could then be merged with the results from the
black frame detection plugin.

No, but at least on some channels, it disappears before the ads start (a
couple of seconds), so it's not as accurate as black frames IMHO, but
they could complement eachother, though.

Unfortunatly i can't test matthieu's black frame detection, i can't compile
mplayer for this

mythTV uses a modified version of nubblevideo for their tv viewing and
commercial removal. as far as i know, they use logo detection.

Some thoughts regarding add removal:

-Because commercial detection is in every country different (several
approaches), the best way to go is an indexfile (as you did Matthieu), and
not removing or cutting in streams or avi, an SDL file is pretty standard
In respect to the gui, how about a skipforward(back) button in freevo
(chapters)

-Another "quick" and "dirty" way to approach the "commercials" problem: If a
program is subbed by teletekst, one could also quickscan the teletekst
stream. To my knowledge each channel has a "dedicated" teletekst page
for the hearing impaired, off course this is not accurate, but it could save
some cpu usage.

-Allthoug volume change's are forbidden in some countries during commercials
it's commonly used by marketing people (less dynamic sound, but a higher
average volume.(products for reducing this are commercialy available e.g.
http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?prodid=10038127&whse=&topnav=&cat=4277&hierPath=79*4277*

reconfigure tv_grab_tvtday and maybe remove KiKa (could not fetch
... aborting). It's a xmltv problem.

I hacked AleVT to use bigger fonts yesterday evening, and put it into
freevo as an external command (with the commands plugin). It doesn't
work with the remote control, only the keyboard, but that can be
arranged also. I'll try to make AleVT use DVB teletext someday too.

Yes, I know, I should have been working on the DVB issue, not the
Teletext :)

I've been thinking about this already. Unfortunately, GUI is one thing I
hate, so for now, I use my laptop as a terminal to my freevo box, and
adjust the EDL with a text editor.

It has been working correctly at 99% (probably even more) when
generating the EDL while recording, and even closer to 100% when
generating the EDL after the recording.

I'm not sure what you mean. What happened is, that when mencoder drops
frames (because I'm watching a DVD at the same time and the processor is
overloaded) the EDL was inaccurate by several frames. This should be
fixed in the dev version (haven't fully tested yet). But this never
happens if you run the filter once the recording is over (actually, for
safety, when I plan to really cut the video before archiving it to CD, I
always re-run the filter, manually, after the recording has ended).

Then, with recordings stored into AVIs, I use transcode's aviindex to
find the I frames closest to my EDL's values and adjust the EDL, and
then call transcode to actually cut the video. For non-AVI video (i.e.
DVB), I'm not sure how to proceed yet.

Here are the possibilities I see:
 - implement the EDL mechanism in mencoder also, in order to use
mencoder to convert to XviD using the EDL to cut the ads
 - implement a TS parser in transcode to use transcode's cut plugin,
 - remux the TS to a PS, re-run the filter (because of PTS changes
during the remux), and then transcode the PS/Mpeg to AVI/XviD using
transcode's cut plugin,
 - convert the raw TS/Mpeg to AVI/XviD with mencoder, then use the
filter, and then use transcode to cut the AVI.

Converting the TS to PS (and fixing the PTS at the same time so that
there is no PTS reset in the PS) while recording the DVB stream is an
option also. For some reason, it sounds more of a cheat than the
previous options, even though it would make my life much easier (we have
a PS already, the EDL can be made easily, and transcode can be used for
cutting while transcoding, and mplayer can use the EDL to jump the ads
while watching, after a tiny bit of tweaking in the seek function of the
PS demuxer, to make it more accurate).

If I want to keep the MPEG as is, I might try to hack into GOPchop to
make it a command-line tool, and use it to edit the MPEG without
transcoding. But GOPchop understands only PS, not TS, so remuxing the TS
would be needed too. Anyway, I don't have a DVD burner yet, so this is
for the future.

What is higher priority for me now is to get the filtering work while
recording with mencoder to AVI (that's mostly working) and work with DVB
recoring, also in real time. For the second part, I need the seek in
mplayer to work accurately for TS which contain a PTS reset. I'm working
on it, but slowly. Editing the video will come after that (I don't
archive very much of what I am recording, I usually record just so that
I can watch the show later, when I have time.

Actually, transcode does this quite well, just tell it where to cut. The
trick being to tell it where to cut to get clean results:) The one
slight drawback is that the sound must be decoded and recoded in order
to keep in sync when you cut (according to transcode's doc). It's not a
problem with my low sound quality recordings, but it might be annoying
with DVB audio.

File permission problem, I just fixed it. Sorry.

No, but at least on some channels, it disappears before the ads start (a
couple of seconds), so it's not as accurate as black frames IMHO, but
they could complement eachother, though.

BTW, MythTV also has an ad remover, it might be interesting to take a
look at it?
