You can use the script attached to install Freevo from source in Ubuntu (it
is a remake from the script in the wiki). The lines that install
dependencies are commented out.

Thanks very much! You and John had identified the issue - I was running some
old versions of kaa from the Ubuntu repositories. This link

these...

Thanks for the replies, and thanks to the list,

Re: [Freevo-users] Freevo on Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10

2008-12-02 Thread Jon Morris
Thanks. I am hoping for an apt install to make things easier. I support 5
different Freevo setups, all needing to be rebuilt (Fedora 2 and Freevo 1.5
I think). If I can do the setup and maintenance from Apt, it makes things a
lot easier.

I will try apt tonight on 8.10 and if that doesn't work, try the wiki guide.
Maybe I can script it to get the systems up quicker.

I don't know about the apt version of freevo, but I am running freevo-1.8.3

working.

Hi.

What do you use to see the movie? Mplayer or xine? Is it a dvd or a file? Do
you use alsa or oss? You should give some more info. Meanwhile, you can see
in the logs how the movie is played. You will find it in /home/freevo/log,
or /var/log/freevo/ or something like that. First see the main-*.log file and
if needed, the logs of mplayer or xine. Run the same commands that freevo
runs and try to see what's happening.

[Freevo-users] An audio question....

2008-12-02 Thread Joe Hildreth
Hello all,

I switched to freevo from geexbox. I just like the next level of experience
that freevo has to offer. I have stumbled and had a few problems but I am
pretty happy thus far. I do have a question though.

When I start a movie, the audio studders and is behind the movie for several
seconds, then it catches up and plays fine. Is there a way to fix this problem?

Warm Regards,

Joe Hildreth

I've uploaded to sourceforge the corrected freevo_conf.py and here is

lastfm2 is a rewrite to use the current lastfm radio API (1.2). It also
uses the standard player GUI rather than it's own so allowing mplayervis
to be used.

Which version of lastfm?

There is a bug in mplayer that it cannot handle the lastfm urls
correctly and won't play the track.

In lastfm2 a workaround for this is to create a thread and download the
track when enough has been downloaded mplayer start playing the file.
STOP will stop mplayer but may not kill the thread.

THe important line is:
timeout: timed out

This means that freevo cannot connect to the apple trailers server.
Either it is down or the url is incorrect.

Which distribution are you using? In the wiki there is a page that explains
how to install Freevo on Ubuntu 8.04 from source (

about dependencies.

Also, you can enable a more detailed level of debug in local_conf.py:

DEBUG_CHILDAPP = 2

checked our internet settings they are appropriate;
if the same url is pasted in the web-browser the page is downloaded whereas
it fails to
download the same url through Freevo.

What could be the reason for this?

Any pointers in thsi regard will be of great help;

Thanking you
