Looks like numpy is not correctly installed, this used to be called Numeric.

But this is just a guess.

Solved :D
I build it a lot of times, I'm using Gentoo. The problem was that gentoo
sets as stable numpy version 1.0.4, I've set the unstable flag and
installed numpy-1.2.1. Everything works fine now. Thanks.

I wonder if X is causing part of the problem?

 Duncan

I have the same problem as Omry Yadan, but in different way. My
FreevoBox is an AMD Athlon64 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I'm trying to play smoothly HDTV content, 720p avc-1. My screen, DVI
connection, has a resolution 1280x1024.
X and mplayer has the same niceness, 0. Freevo gets around 5-15% while
playing. I've never thought as Omry Yadan, but if you are wondering
whats wrong you should know that he is not the only one.
While playing, fast moves makes mplayer get a lot of CPU but X too, so
there are 2 problems, if X needs more CPu than available then the screen
starts to have small freezes and flickering, and when the mplayer needs
more CPU than available the movie a/v desyncs until fast moving stops,
then I see like reforward hehe. But when I try this by cli way, plays
perfect.

Now I have overclocked the CPU 5% and it seems to play better.
Then I understood that my system maybe is not enough for 720p content
and I thought that maybe stream 720p like server-live-decode to mpeg2
and freevobox plays, so all CPU usage is availabel for X.
A year ago, I had an AMD Athlon XP 2000@ and I have not see too much
difference.

I'm sorry about my english :P, I know it really sucks.

Usually the computer should go sleeping. This works fine when gdm is
  running and
freevo is started manually. When hitting the sleep button the computer
  falls
into sleep. When waked up Ubuntu and freevo come up again without any

  Thanks and regards, Markus

I think the problem is in the gnome-power-manager. Try to set-up ACPI
daemon to handle that kind of keyboard events.

Using ACPI was not successful but I found a better solution.
I still use automatic login with /etc/gdm/gdm.conf but I don't boot into
 freevo
directly. The file ~/.dmrc keeps unchanged to start gnome as usual.
 [Desktop]
 Session=gnome

In ~/.config/autostart/ you have to create a new file freevo.desktop.
 [Desktop Entry]
 Encoding=UTF-8
 Name=Freevo
 Comment=Freevo
 Icon=
 Exec=freevo
 Terminal=false
 Type=Application
 Categories=
 OnlyShowIn=GNOME;XFCE

If you would like to have freevo started for all users use the directory
'/etc/xdg/autostart/freevo.desktop' instead to store this file. You have to
 be root.

When you configure freevo to start in fullscreen mode everything is perfect.
freevo will start up after booting the computer. Advantages of this solution:
 - you can toggle fullscreen mode
 - you have a full featured gnome session
 - remote desktop is supported
 - using the sleep button of the keyboard works perfectly
 - many more

 Thanks and regards
 Markus

omg, how much memory do you use?
$ top | grep Mem
I think if yo set up acpi, it should work better.

Anyway, congratulatios.

AFAIK multiple cpu core won't help decoding HD-Video. A powerfull Core2

noise, so you can't overclock..or have a water-cooling system.

I was using a Terratec DMX Fire, I don't know about news Sound Blaster

Video Card should not be a problem. I don't know what pretends the
Freevo team with new releases but if they try to put a 3D-system in ours
Freevo menus, you should have the 3D acceleration enabled :P. nVidia
should be enough, as I said before, GeForce 6600+ enough.(LE/LP or GS =
LowProfile = Fanless). BTW, nobody knows if PureVideo is going to be
supported under Linux = fast CPU =).

[Freevo-users] Controlling audio, mplayer and Freevo

2008-02-15 Thread Ignacio Quezada
Hi!,

I've bought a new Microsoft's Remote MCE and I'm trying to control
volume. I'm using alsa and not oss, but the plugin desactives when I
open freevo. It says that /dev/mixer does not exist.

Also, I tried to control MPlayer's volume, but something strange happen.
I'm using IEC958 and I can't control it with any mixer. I tried
alsamixer and I can't control the volume even with Master, just mute the
IEC958.

I'm lost. I'm trying to set softvol to mplayer and put a initial volume
but does not work fine. An initial volume around 50% of 100% without
external gain like softvol-max.

What did you if you are using alsa ?

Thanks

You need the alsa oss modules loaded to the oss mixer device to be
 created. these modules:
 snd_pcm_oss, snd_mixer_oss

If I used oss emulation, would be able to control the volume?

If you use pass-thru for digital output you may not be able to control
the volume at all. It is just passed to the stereo. I have the same
setup and can not control the auto with Freevo. Does alsamixer work
 for you?

Alsamixer does not work, only mute.
Now I'm using:
-softvol -softvol-max 200 -af volume=0.25

Maybe you can do some event cmdline to vol+/- if your alasmixer works.

IIRC some of the MCE remotes can be re-programmed so that certain
buttons can be programmed for different codes, failing that you can use
the irsend function of lirc to transmit IR commands to a device but the
sensors have to be really near ~3cm.

It make some sense that HDTV consumes more CPU that DVD, but 720p is
pretty normal, 720x576 progressive is just like TV but twice as fast,
 isn't it?

12% CPU for Python is wholly ridiculous it should be between 0.7 and
1.7% when freevo is idle, about 12% when one of Adam's python
screen-savers runs and 2-3% when mplayer runs. (The mplayer handler has
a lot of output to cope with). Even on a P3 (733MHz) freevo uses 3% when
idle and I have to many plug-ins installed on the test machine.

What CFLAGS have you set? Gentoo do have some good wiki pages, there is
one about hardware detection that is rather good, tells you how you can
determine the CFLAGS from the hardware. gentoo hardware detection I'm
feeling lucky should get you there.

 Duncan

I've been using Safe CFLAGS with -0s and -2s, athlon-xp. No experimental
flags. I'm using that box mounted on a root NFS system, hddless.

I 've get new video streams, now I'm able to play 720p streams with..
-vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts fast:skiploopfilter=all but 1080p .. as before,
I can play it smoothly but only if I open mplayer inside X without
Freevo, with -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=1:fast:skiploopfilter=all..
uhm.. I can't get it working if Freevo has around 2-3 % of CPU while
mplayer runs, it is not enough to play smoothly the video. I need that
3% :S. Any idea?

Maybe you are thinking, it's insane to play a 1080p video with those
filters, but even that is better than a DVD with pp/hqdn3d/...

It seems that tables on tv guide does not work or something, then I
thought to remove every channel except one, and try it with only the
same channel on channels.conf and xmltv-grab (TV.xml). Also, with one
channel in freevo, one in channels.conf and xmltv-grab removed. Same error.

Re: [Freevo-users] Soundcard for Linux

2006-12-19 Thread Ignacio -
All depends on your necessities. Actually, all NEW mainboards has a
onboard soundcard, and those are pretty good. It's important to know
which ports you need, stereo jack, SPDIF and some inputs. Aso it is
important to know in what conditions will be it playing because if you
have a slow pc it is better to buy a good soundcard because you will
unload some % of your CPU; but in standard conditions I don't think it
has too much importance. Just a soundcard with needed ports (holes)
will be ok. ah! I think it is better an internal card. (pci)

Ideally, you *have* to have spidf or optical out for sound as well.
All decent amp's have spidf or optical sound inputs. This also

Well going forward what you'd really want is hdmi output. Most decent
new amps and tvs have this and it'll carry your digital video and audio
signal for you in one cable. So the PS3 might be a good candidate for a
next gen platform for freevo v2. It's got hdmi and apparently you'll be
able to install linux on it. At €640 this doesn't look like a bad option
given you're getting at gaming console too but it remains to be seen how
well it works in real life.
Asus and MSI have some good candidates - boards with onboard Geforce

The asus comes with the tv-out bracket, the msi site says theirs is

the geforce6150 has enough xvmc oomph for mpeg2 ad HD resolutions. no
mpeg4 support in hardware, but that probably shouldn't be an issue. On
the other hand, I have no idea what it takes to decode h.264 at HD
resolutions - but at SD resolutions, my athlon-xp 1600 does just fine.

both support spdif out at 44.1 and 48khz, the msi board also does 96 and
  192khz and at 20 and 24 bits.

Asus warns that their DVI connector does not support the common dongles
that convert DVI to RGB for analog monitors, and that you cannot use the
VGA port and TV-Out ports simultaneously. This is odd, but probably not
an issue for htpc use. The MSI board probably has the same restrictions
  - I'm guessing it's a chipset thing.

athlon64 processors are as quiet as you make 'em. My 2-year-old 3500+
runs quite cool, so it should be possible to make a very quiet,
feature-rich system with either of these boards.

They both retail for about $90. The cheapest AM2 sempron is about $40
and may or may not be enough for HDTV. the cheapest full athlon64 is
about $85, and is certainly enough for HDTV. The cheapest dual-core
athlon64 is about $150 and probably massive overkill.

Other motherboard makers may have similar boards. Looks like good
  hardware to me.

turn off the hdd when it does not work, lot of noise :S. Thanks.

I had the same problem in freevo-1.5.4 and I was writting here to the
mailing list and no one could help me, it is like MAME does not
recognise any game or python does not use the correct path to tell to
MAME, something strange :S

If you get it work, write here how.

Re: [Freevo-users] Best Linux distro for Freevo?

2006-10-13 Thread Ignacio -
I think it depends on your system, you can use a freevo fitted to your
hardware and go, but if you get a mandriva or a fedora or an ubuntu,
for example, you will get an X11 environment and freevo working in it.
Gentoo or debian won't do that, just Xorg and freevo.

I recommend Gentoo.

Re: [Freevo-users] Using multiple inputs

2006-09-06 Thread Ignacio -
Im trying to understand you but..does the cable signal pluged in COMPOSITE?
I think...I mean, the cable receiver sends 1 channel to the pc, and
if you change channel in cable receiver, the channel will change, but
pc has nothing to do. Maybe connecting to RS-232 or something you will
get it.

On 9/6/06, Daniel Lawson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Hi all,

I'm trying to configure my freevo to use both the
analogue input (tuner, input 0) and the cable
(composite, input 1). I used this guide:

 http://www.xiaprojects.com/www/manuali/freevo/main.php

Which allows me to define channels on both inputs, and
to change to the correct input when changing channels.

The problem I have is that my analogue reception is
pretty poor, and so I will sometimes want to use the
cable box for over-the-air channels. But I don't have
a method of allowing freevo to change channels on the
cable box yet (I know I should get one, but I'm moving
soon and I'm hoping to get a different type of cable
box that is easier to control from linux...)

 Therefore, I either want to:
 a) duplicate channels - just have bbc1.bbc.co.uk in
twice, once for the cable and once for analogue. At
the moment only the second entry in TV_CHANNELS is
 being used...
 b) Be able to specify multiple inputs for the channels
and to have some way of specifying which to
 record/watch tv on.

I think duplicating channels should be the easiest way
 to go. e.g. I need:
 ('london.bbc1.bbc.co.uk', 'T-1','26'),
 ('london.bbc1.bbc.co.uk', 'Cable-1',
 'E25',0,1),

to allow both entries. Any ideas?

(BTW, if the two channels have different radiotimes
listing addresses, they will work, so for the BBC and
Channel 3, which have multiple regions, I can do it.
But that doesn't work for Channels 4 and 5 which only
 have 1 region. I'm in the UK,obviously!)

 Thanks in advance,

 Dan
