Now I'm pretty sure this is right, off the top of my head, and would relieve
the headache a hard disk light in a freevo can cause.
The only problem is I can't rightly remember the method of determining the
values of R and c (my notes are long gone), I'll keep looking, and update as
necessary and of course post a wiki. The thing is, what would be a good
timing? Should we try and time it so our breathing comes in time with it as
we watch a movie?

mplayer? try the keys 0 and 9 instead. Seems that the freevo keymapping
doesn't get forwarded into mplayer correctly. Haven't found out yet why,
though.

Also try '/' and '*' on the keypad. I also found that freevo keymapping
never translated correctly to mplayer... Try changing the freevo

Re: [Freevo-users] Re: What happend to the Install Deps page?

2005-02-07 Thread Per Homer
The only solution I found was to downgrade to python2.3. Yes, I also found that
on MDK10.1 there was a much more extensive list of packages to install.

I stuck them all in a directory and plan to update the wiki later with this
list as the list there is Fedora Core 2 specific.

But generally, the install was *much* less painful this time than it was about
1-1/2 yrs ago when I last did it.

 I can start that, I have a just built current list application and
about every library that freevo uses from python, and perl. Had to add
about a perl modules to get xmltv to compile on Slackware. I also
discovered the issue with python 2.4 and xmlplus, looking for
saner/simpiler solution than downgrading to 2.3.

5. msgbox pops up saying "foo has been scheduled for recording"

[Freevo-users] xmltv_na stop on the 5th?

2004-04-04 Thread Per Homer
Yes, I have been getting this, too. I solved it by getting the lattest
version of XMLTV via CVS. Note that the script that was provided in an
earlier email did not work for me. I use the following to run xmltv (the
--pass option is deprecated already):

#!/bin/sh
todayis=`date +%Y%m%d`
/usr/bin/tv_grab_na_dd --output /home/freevo/xmltv/listings_$todayis.xml
--days 7 --tz_offset -0400
sed -ie 's/:/_/g' /home/freevo/xmltv/listings_$todayis.xml
rm -f /tmp/TV.xml
ln -s /home/freevo/xmltv/listings_$todayis.xml /tmp/TV.xml

And I used the following to extract a listing of channels, since the new
zap2it has all new codes for the channels. Note that you should replace
Rogers Cable with Comcast or Shaw or whereveer you live. Double check the
value in the listings file.

#!/usr/bin/perl
while () {
 chomp;
 if (/^\s+$/) {
 $last_id = $1;
 } elsif
(/^\s+(.+)\sRogers\sCable\sInc.</display-name>$/) {
 $last_name = $1;
 } elsif (/^\s+(.?)</display-name>$/) {
 $last_chan = $1;
 } elsif (/^\s+(.?.?)</display-name>$/) {
 $last_chan = $1;
 } elsif (/^\s+
$/) {
 print "('$last_id', '$last_name', '$last_chan'),
";
 }
}

[Freevo-users] no sound in recordings

2004-03-31 Thread Per Homer

OK ... here's an interesting one ...

I don't get sound when I record and I don't think it's because of my
line in (I hear sound in the background when it records). Here is my
command line:
aumix -l 50 -l R; /usr/local/bin/mencoder -tv
driver=v4l:input=0:norm=ntsc:channel=7:chanlist=us-cable:width=640:height=480:outfmt=yuy2:device=/dev/video0:adevice=/dev/dsp:audiorate=32000:forceaudio:forcechan=1:buffersize=128
-ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=2000:keyint=30 -oac mp3lame
-lameopts br=128:cbr:mode=3 -ffourcc divx -endpos 10 -o
/mnt/media/Movies/TV/output.avi tv://; aumix -l 90;

I'm still at a loss as to why recording worked perfectly in 1.4 and is
now completely broken in 1.5 (the above command line worked fine in
1.4).
--Joe

Yes, this is stupidly annoying. I am assuming here that you have a TV Card
with one of those little mini patch cords from the TV card to the line in on
you sound card.

Here are some troubleshooting things I would suggest you try:

1. Try running the same command from the command prompt. If this works,
then I am really confused. If not, continue on, but trying thisat the
command prompt.
2. Try removing forcechan=1, I have found that this kills the sound on my
ATI card
3. Try increasing the IGAin setting to 50 (ie aumix -l 50 -l R -i 50)
4. If you have a VIA motherboard with onboard sound, remove OSS and ALSA and
install VIA's native driver (www.viaarena.com)
5. Upgrade Mplayer

Let me know how this works... I spent a week working on mine until I found
that all I had to do was #4 above.

Thanks, Per.

Then I moved the runtime directory in the /whatever/freevo/ to ./freevo.bak

don't put '04', put '4'.

Check Question 2 and 3.

[Freevo-users] CVS bugs

2003-10-23 Thread Per Homer
Can somebody help me with the following two bugs in CVS? I am a running a
fresh version of Mandrake 9.1. Python 2.2 is installed.

(1) line 92 of main.py causes crash:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "../src/main.py", line 92, in ?
 from xml.utils import qp_xml
ImportError: No module named utils
I can comment out line 92, but then I get the following.

(2) 2nd error:

raceback (most recent call last):
File "../src/main.py", line 95, in ?
 import config
File "../src/config.py", line 418, in ?
 execfile(os.environ['FREEVO_CONFIG'], globals(), locals())
File "../freevo_config.py", line 100, in ?
 import plugin
File "../src/plugin.py", line 63, in ?
 from event import Event
File "../src/event.py", line 450, in ?
 from pygame.locals import *
ImportError: No module named pygame.locals
I don't want games right now. Any suggestions?

Re: [Freevo-users] ATI All In Wonder Radeon

2003-10-06 Thread Per Homer
Hi Josh,

I too am having problems getting the capture working, but on an ATI TV
Wonder VE.

I have installed ati_remote and ati.2 drivers successfully, but can get
neither KM nor DRM nor avview to compile.

Xawtv -- I forced an install of this guy, but it keeps crashing with a
segmentation fault

Mplayer -- tried launching "mplayer -tv form=NTSC tv://" or variations
thereof and all I get are green screens.

BTTV -- doesn't like me. I get unresolved symbols errors

Josh -- can you send me your adjusted "KM" kernel thingy?

Also, can anyone help PLEASE? I am fairly close to pulling my hair out

Thanks, Per.

[Freevo-users] Re: Freevo-users digest, Vol 1 #752 - 12 msgs

2003-09-29 Thread Per Homer

if you can hear the sound but not see the picture that probably means that
you need to install a codec
I have ALWAYS found that this problem is due to one of two things:

(a) the user was using Windoze Media Player and not Mplayer or ZoomPlayer
(b) the user needed the latest codec.
Note that there was recently a new version of DIVX within the last 2 months.
Also, you should try to keep up-to-date on the XVID codec which is also
popular. Finally, if you are using M$ Windoze, you should install ffdshow
(see sourceforge.net)

[Freevo-users] Windows Media Palyer Replacement

2003-09-29 Thread Per Homer

I have encoded a bunch of TV programs that I burnt onto some cd's. I was
wondering if there is something special I have to do with Windows Media
Player to get them to play correctly. I hear the sound just don't see
the picture. Or maybe there is a better app I could use to view them.
MPLAYER available for windows?
Try ZoomPlayer It is highly configurable and a much nicer interface than
WMP9.0. Also, you can control many more functions with only a mouse

[Freevo-users] Commands / Headlines plugin

2003-09-25 Thread Per Homer
Are commands / headlines plugins enabled in 1.3.4 or is this a CVS only
thing?

If they are enabled, any tips? I activated the plugin and adjusted the skin,
but now it says the "Directory is empty"

Thanks, Per.

[Freevo-users] Setup GUI - I'm in

2003-09-25 Thread Per Homer
Paul,

1- I can contribute a few hours a week to the idea. I will fire you a
private email, but FYI, my preferred area of helping would be in the
"inside" freevo app, but whatever.

2 - Also, anybody have a good newbie guide on CVS?

Thanks,

Per.

Note the nifty setup GUI that is BUILT-IN to the app

it makes for tough reading for those of us who prefer a digest format
instead of 100 emails a day.

[Freevo-users] Re: Developing a GUI Config Tool

2003-09-24 Thread Per Homer
Thoughts:

(a) I love Freevo and I've been using it for four days...!
(b) While any settings that require typing would be hard to control using a
remote, it would be nice to have some simple settings that are either binary
or list based INSIDE freevo in a simple setup GUI. The rest, more
complicated setup variables could be either in a GUI that is run outside of
Freevo or that can be run inside of Freevo, but requires a Keyboard.
(c) It would be nice to program the underlying "config" file and the
interfce/parser in such manner that the GUI would change simply based on the
structure of the config file. That way any new options added would be
automatically added to the config GUI without having to re-program/adjust
the config GUI
(d) It would be therefore be easier to list the possible values in the
config file in some commented or otherwise manner. An idea is to make them
part of a vector/array (don't know what you call it in Python) and then have
the configurator GUI just set which item in the array you are using

All of that being said, this sounds like a lot of work (and some fun too). I
am mostly familiar with Micro$oft VB 6.0, but Python looks pretty
straight-forward (even if the lack of an "end if" really bugs me). I would
be keen to help out, but am a total newbie to the Open Source world. How do
I start?
