A less compute-intensive codec is probably the way to go. You should be able to save as high-bitrate MPEG-1 or MJPEG or any of a bunch of other things with similar quality to MPEG4 -- but you have to trade off size for compute requirement. I was doing MJPEG captures on a 1.8GHz Celeron from a Matrox Rainbowrunner fairly cleanly for a while before I switched to DVB-T. Re: [Freevo-users] mpeg decoder card question
Well, I'm running media-box on Celeron 1.7GHz. I don't have any issues playing DVD's or any type of MPEG movies. They all work fine. My only problem is when I try and save TV shows, I lose frames and CPU usage is about 100%. I am just looking for alternative to expensive WinTV 250/350 cards. - Original Message - From: "Chris Griffiths" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Freevo-Users" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, June 24, 2004 10:50 PM Subject: Re: [Freevo-users] mpeg decoder card question > No, I know about the dxr3 - I'd been searching for xcard/linux drivers, > or something similar on google and found a reference to vdr supporting > it. > It wouldn't suprise me if the post was thinging about the dxr3 but hey, > damned shame. > > On Thu, 24 Jun 2004 10:37:03 -0500, "Charles Lavin" > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> said: > > Your thinking of the dxr3 aka RealMagic Hollywood Plus. Re: [Freevo-users] mpeg decoder card question
No, I know about the dxr3 - I'd been searching for xcard/linux drivers, or something similar on google and found a reference to vdr supporting it. It wouldn't suprise me if the post was thinging about the dxr3 but hey, damned shame. Re: [Freevo-users] mpeg decoder card question
I've heard some rumblings about it being supported by the VDR project - but I've not been able to find anything concrete. It's a shame, as it gives very good TV-out and would help out otherwise slow machines - for a reasonable price. - Chris On Thu, 24 Jun 2004 04:27:16 -0500, "Charles Lavin" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> said: > No Linux Drivers. Re: [Freevo-users] mpeg decoder card question
No Linux Drivers. Can't be used to convert files, only to display them. Don't buy this card because Sigma Designs violated the GPL by stealing code from the XVID project. I think they finally resolved the issue but it took quite a bit of pressure from the XVID project. [Freevo-users] mpeg decoder card question
I was checking out old Tomshardware review on site http://graphics.tomshardware.com/video/20020621/sigma-05.html#conclusion_convenient_mpeg4_playback_for_dated_computers A mpeg decoder card called Realmagic xcard is a hardware based decoder which will allow MPEG-2 and 4 decoding. I think this is mainly for lowering CPU usage for playback of MPEG-2 and 4 files. I'm trying to figure out if this can be used with tvcard to convert avi to mpeg4 for recording tv shows. Does anyone know if it can do this and if linux drivers are available? http://www.buy.com/retail/Product_jump.asp?sku=10322167&SearchEngine=Inktomi&Type=PI&Keyword=10322167&Category=Comp&dcaid=17282 Skeeter --- This SF.Net email sponsored by Black Hat Briefings & Training.
