Unfortunately, you can't. OS X supports only printers on AppleTalk that are
PostScript, or USB-based printers. I had to throw my Color StyleWriter 2400

For a quiter fan you would want to have a slower revolving prop and smaller
diameter. The faster a prop spins and
the larger the prop the louder it is. This is why propeller designers for
airplanes try to make their props shorter and reduce
their RPMs.

printing from USB (Lombard, OS 9.2.2) to serial (Canon

2003-06-24 Thread caribsea
Not sure if this will help, but I needed to print from my Lombard to my Apple
Laserwriter 4/600 (serial). I got an Asante unit on eBay and it works great through
ethernet with a crossover cable. You have to make sure you get the correct Asante Talk
(I'm not at home and can't tell you which it is). I got a wrong one first. I don't
know about Canon printers, but if you have the driver and it's serial, I don't know
why this wouldn't work. The ethernet cable goes from the Lombard to the Asante and a
cable out of the Asante goes to the serial printer.

I assume you tried running off the battery anyway?
I have a Pismo battery that acts the same way (i.e., only one LED blinking)
but gives me 2+ hours in OS 9.2.2. It does show up in the Apple battery
charging control strip module and in My Battery PPC, which both show it
charging and fully charged. Weird, but works.

It will be a long time. Did you see the size of the heat sinks? And how
about a big fan for each processor? Those babies are hot!

I dunno. The real question to me is, when do we get 2GHz
processor upgrades for the Pismo... ;-)

I heard that it was mentioned in the keynote that we should expect
them in 2 quarters. Is this true? I haven't been able to find any
other mention of it.
i don't recall hearing that in the keynote. i wasn't paying 100%
attention, though. the only time-frame I heard was "within 12 months"
for the G5 to hit 3GHz.

Display screen for Lombard 333 MHz

2003-06-24 Thread Herbert Goodfriend
Is the display screen for the Lombard 400MHz the same as the screen
for the 333MHz? It looks the same but the wires are a different color.

(I own a 333 and am considering the purchase of a screen pulled from a 400.)

printing from USB (Lombard, OS 9.2.2) to serial (CanonBJC4550)

2003-06-24 Thread Andrew King
Hello all
I'm just settling in with my new Lombard (400 Mhz, OS 9.2.2) and am
starting to think about printing.
Is there a USB to Serial converter that I can plug into the back?
Would such a converter cost more than a new USB printer?

I've also got a internal VST superdisk for floppy disks but have noticed
that the drive clicks and whirs when I start up the computer (with no
floppy inside). Is this normal?
Was there ever an Apple internal floppy or was the Wallstreet the last
powerbook to have that option?
