You might be accidentally triggering command with the trackpad if it doesn't work properly without you knowing. I had a similar issue with mine and had to replace that top case. Fortunately, that part is not very expensive on eBay. I've got mine for $10. Unfortunately, to replace the top case, you have to completely disassemble the Pismo, which is not for the faint of heart... As for your power problem, the solder on the AC/sound board is probably loose and you would have to re-solder it. -Laurent. -- Laurent Daudelin AIM/iChat: LaurentDaudelinhttp://nemesys.dyndns.org Logiciels Nemesys Software mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] buzzword-compliant: [also `buzzword-enabled'] Used (disparagingly) of products that seem to have been specified to incorporate all of this month's trendy technologies. Brian, Download the freeware program called CCC which stand for Carbon Copy Cloner. This great utility will greatly decrease the amount of time it will take to move Panther and everything else to your new drive. You can this either via a firewire drive or through Target Disk Mode. CCC can be found here: http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html I was under the impression that you shouldn't use CCC to move a system BETWEEN machines - that at the deep and invisible level the OS is hooked into a specific machine after an install and to simply move it to another model (in this case an iMac 500 to a Pismo 400) things may basically work but that I would be asking for trouble in the long run. Hmmm, as far as I've seen, OS X installs everything to run the OS on any machine. For example, on my Pismo, I have all the kernel extensions for the nVidia video cards even though my Pismo only has an ATI Rage. I haven't read any report that the OS X installation on a machine was that machine specific. -Laurent. -- Laurent Daudelin AIM/iChat: LaurentDaudelinhttp://nemesys.dyndns.org Logiciels Nemesys Software mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Brooks's Law prov.: Adding manpower to a late software project makes it later -- a result of the fact that the expected advantage from splitting development work among N programmers is O(N) (that is, proportional to N), but the complexity and communications cost associated with coordinating and then merging their work is O(N^2) (that is, proportional to the square of N). PowerBook G3 Series and Closed Lid.
I remember someone told that the PowerBook G3 (Wallstreet and Lombard) can be started with the Display Closed from an external Keyboard. The PowerBook may boot but it will go to sleep. According to Apple: Article ID: 51194 Your PowerBook G3 Series goes to sleep when you close the display The PowerBook's display must be open when you use an external monitor. Unlike the PowerBook (FireWire) or PowerBook G4, you can't use a PowerBook G3 Series computer with the display closed. Disconnecting an external monitor 1. Make sure your computer is shut down or in sleep. 2. Make sure your monitor is switched off. 3. Disconnect the monitor cable (for a VGA-style monitor) or monitor adapter (for an Apple monitor) from the external monitor port on the computer's back panel. The actual LCD is a different part number. I have taken apart quite a few Lombards and Pismos and can say from actual experience rather than someone else's web page that the LCD probably won't work. The flat connector that is part of the LCD is in a different place, so your flex cable from the motherboard will not work correctly. While this is true, I have a bit of experience taking apart the display housings for this model of Powerbook. The LCD panel itself can be swapped, just not all the various parts around it, which makes it more difficult as the display housing is one of the more fragile and difficult pieces to dissect. powerbook settings
Basically, I lost all account settings, as well as desktop files, document files, photos in iphoto, the whole deal, and was wondering, on a powerbook g4 (12 inch DVI) what I can do to retreive it, I get errors when I try to use disk utility, and spent 80 bucks on disk warrior, only to have it come up with an error message as well when I try to repair the disk... weird thing is, I can still log on to the machine as administrator, but the files seemed to have dissapeared. this all occured after the system locked up (unusual in and of itself) any thoughts? -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
