Re: Pismo sucess! (was Pismo disaster - please help!)

2004-11-17 Thread David Thrower
many thanks to Laurent, Nancy, Kyle, and Pauline for
their help in diagnosing my (daughter's Christmas
present) unresponsive Pismo 500mhz!

it was the RAM, as was suggested by you fine people,
though i wasn't sure if i had damaged the chip, or the
slot. since my son has a Pismo 400mhz (his Christmas
prezzie last year), i decided to get a 500mhz
processor WITH a 512Mb RAM chip bundled on eBay, as
either another faster processor, or another 512Mb chip
would come in handy... weirdly, while the old
daughtercard was not working with the old RAM, but the
new card/old RAM, and old card/new RAM combinations
both work, so i ended up in a good place. no, i have
no idea what the problem was!

all in all it was an extra, unwelcome, expense, but
now i've gone from 400 and 500 mhz machines with 512Mb
RAM each, to two 500 mhz machines with 768Mb RAM each
and a spare 400mhz processor for a rainy day...
always a good thing with two high-schoolers in a
demanding school. ;)

thanks again!

best regards,
David Thrower

Re: Default Application in OS X Panther

2004-11-17 Thread Aaron Willems
Select one of your .doc documents. Don't open it. Select get info from the
file menu. Under the option for Open with:, select Microsoft Word. Below
that you should see this option: Use this application to open all documents
like this. Right below that you should see a button called Change All. Click
that button and it will change Microsoft Word to the default application.

 Hello.

I have Microsoft Office 2004 and Nisus Express 2.1. Recently I upgraded my
Nisus to the newest version (very nice, by the way) but somehow my PowerBook
got confused and thinks that ALL .doc documents should open in Nisus. How
can I set the default back to Word?

 Andrew

I've just rediscovered some games and was wondering if someone knew

a good joystick to use with a Powerbook.

These are relatively simple old games and my interest in video games

fancy, but using the keyboard for games just isn't the same.

Bluetooth? USB? Firewire?
I will give you a USB Macally iStick joystick that works with OS8.5 to
9.? I can't find an OSX driver, and I don't use OS9 anymore on my
desktop.

For any USB input device that you can't find a driver for use USB
Overdrive.
There is a version for 8.5-9.x and one for X. It can be found at
versiontracker.com.

I'm not associated with the writer just a satisfied user.

Thanks I tried it and it works. The 20 dollar shareware is more than
the stick is worth but I don't mind the nag screen.
