Re: airport question/assistance needed

2004-11-29 Thread Luis Sequeira
Quick question for the list
I am using the original graphite base station and original airport card
in this Pismo and my imac SE 400 (graphite)...Also hooked into the
system is my son's Dell w/a wireless card...All working perfectly...My
other son is now home with his Gateway and we can't seem to get the
system to allow the network to allow the gateway to transmit/receive the
signal...When it does see the network, it will not allow anything to be
connected..We had this same problem when adding the Dell but somehow got
it to work perfectly..My son asked about replacing the Airport w/ a
new PC base station and some other type of wireless card...OBviously I
would prefer to keep the current setup...Any odeas about what needs to
be done to get the Airport network to see/work with the Gateway???
Regards and TIA,
Mike K
Maybe you've set the network up in a way that restricts access based
on MAC address (that is a unique hardware MAChine address, that all
network devices, wired or wireless have)? If so, you'd have to use
the Airport Admin Utility to enter your son's wireless card's address
as a legitimate one - click on the Access control tab.

Re: Realtime processor speed tool?

2004-11-29 Thread Luis Sequeira
Could it be sysctl?
sysctl hw.cpufrequency (you have to divide the answer by 1 million) gives
you proc speed, but I don't know whether it's actually measuring or just
reporting the state of a variable.
TimH
I tried on my TiBook (1GHz) and it says 66700 (that would be 667MHz).
Both System Profiler and the Hardware preference pane (installed by
CHUD) report 1GHz.
In Energy Saver, processor performance is set to highest. What gives?

lombard 10.3

2004-11-29 Thread gladys pérez-almiroty
hi:
i am trying to upgrade my aunt's lombard. i installed 256 ram in the
lower slot and a 60gb 7200 rpm's hd. when i tried to install os 10.3
all went fine up to a point in which the screen turned into a series of
static big blue, black and white lines or a pattern of thin lines
jumping all over the screen. i tried 3 times with the same thing
happening about the same time. the first time i just let it run w/out
close attention.
i installed os 10.2 without a problem.
i remember reading recently about several listas who have installed
10.3 in a lombard. could you tell me what am i doing wrong? tried
searching, but so far nothing has turned up.

A lot of times I think these types of install issues have been traced
to 3rd party ram. Remove the extra 256 and try the installation again
and see what happens.

Wi-Fi, Pismo and Panasonic Cordless Phone

2004-11-29 Thread macnifico
Hi, Listers!
I have the following equipment:
NetGear M813 Wi-Fi Router
Internal AirPort Card inside a
Pismo 400 MHz with 512 Mb.
And a Panasonic Cordless 900 MHz Phone.
When I use the phone in the evenings and nights, there is a sound,
like a screech, that sometimes sounds loud and sometimes sounds soft.
At irregular intervals. It increases if I talk for a long time (more
than 10 minutes).
The PB usually is on connected to the Internet. Eudora is set to
check the mail every 15 minutes. Firefox is on but not searching,
just in the background.

Could the NetGear base be the culprit? I do not want to turn it off
and get of the Internet every time I get a call.
:-(

Pismo RAM

2004-11-29 Thread Dante McLean
Hello:
Need RAM for the Pismo. According to my manual, I am looking for
low-profile un-buffered PC100 3.3 Volt 144pin SODIMM. The question is,
Parity or Non-Parity, or does it matter? It specifies un-buffered,
which I take to mean Non-parity--is this correct?

Regards,
Dante.

Do you know in which frequency your NetGear router operates? I think the
Apple Base Stations are in the 2.4GHz range. If you have one of the newest
wireless phone that also operates in the 2.4GHz range, then you could have
interference. But if you have a Panasonic like yours that operates in the
900MHz range, I don't think it could create interferences since it's not in
the same range, but, hey, I'm certainly not a communication expert and could
well be wrong! But I think that if you could provide us with the operating
range of your Netgear router, that might help...

Not likely, since 802.11b and g operate at 2.4 GHz, more than likely
it's an internal problem with your phone. Have you tried switching
channels on the phone?

Sony CRX830E upgrade for Pismo

2004-11-29 Thread Kathryn Odell
I'm considering getting the Sony CRX830E CDR-DVD for my Pismo expansion
bay. I have found it at a few Mac parts sites, and it's pretty
pricey--around $180. However, when I google the part number, I find
lots of places that sell it for much less--like $70. Would there be a
difference in the drive between Mac and PC vendors? Is there anything I
should be wary of here?

Thanks for any advice,
Kate

memory between wallstreet and lombard

2004-11-29 Thread Rad Craig
OK, I bought that Lombard I was asking about a couple of days ago and also
looking at a Pismo, if I can get it for a good price, I'll sell the Lombard.

1.) Anyway, the Lombard only has 64MB of ram and my Wallstreet which I will
be selling has 512MB. Can I take some of this ram out of my Wallstreet and
use it in the Lombard?

2.) Are there any weird memory limits, like 384MB, like I heard about on
the Wallstreets? Or can I put 512MB in this Lombard without problems in
OSX?

3.) Also, my Lombard doesn't have a power cord, where can I get a working
one for cheap?
