Re: Lombard freeze was: replaced HD no modem

2005-03-25 Thread Adrian Carter
Isn't there a reset button on the Lombard, I think its located with the
ports at the back (I've never used a Lombard, my WallStreet was similar
but it was a key combo to do a heavy reset). Hold the reset button in
for ten seconds and then see what happens.

Ideally I think the battery should be removed for this procedure, there
should be a catch under the front of the laptop (front left) which
slides forward, this should make the battery pop out (I'm basing this
again on my experience with a WallStreet model but I think the
principle is similar, if I'm wrong someone please step in and correct
me).

Re: Lombard freeze was: replaced HD no modem

2005-03-25 Thread Adrian Carter
Sometimes the power management settings get a little messed up, these
are to the best of my knowledge stored on a dedicated chip which looks
after things like battery life and so forth.

One of the consequences of the this happening can be a machine locking
in sleep mode.

In terms of removing the battery, flip the machine over so you are
looking at the underside, I think you should see a moulded flap that
you can move to pop the battery out if you need to do so.

Re: Receiving faxes-follow-up

OK . . . I have successfully received a few faxes. But: no
notification/alert sound, and no emails. Now, the modem is stuck in a
Disconnecting... loop and I can't seem to affect that. I've tried
Nework Preferences (and force-quitting that) and Internet Preferences,
to no avail. Loggin out doesn't do it. I seem to be in the unusual
position of having to restart the PowerBook. I haven't had to do that
much since using OS X.

Any ideas about this?

Any ISP providing WebDAV access will do. You can mount a WebDAV server
directly in the Finder. .Mac iDisk is WebDAV.

Of course, you can run your very own WebDAV server as well as it's an
HTTP extension.

Check Apache's mod_dav for example:

You would probably have to kill the AppleModem process. Sounds like it
didn't finish it's job. If that doesn't work maybe restart the SystemUI
service? I've personally never done that, and I'm not sure what
ramifications it would have on the rest of the window server processes.
Probably safest just to reboot. :-(

At last, a question I can answer.
Run your fingernail along the battery towards the front of the computer
(side nearest you).
As your fingernail goes around the corner you should lift out a lever
that will unseat the battery. The CD drive on the other side should come
out the same way.

Lombard not recognizing Wifi card

2005-03-25 Thread Dennis Wurster
Hello all,
I'm new to this list but I've been on the swap-list for years.
A client of mine has me investigating something strange on his Lombard,
333/512MB OS 9.2.2

Proxim Skyline 802.11b PC Card for Notebooks
I just did a re-format and re-install of 9.2.1 and updated to 9.2.2
Next, I installed the drivers at
http://www.proxim.com/support/all/orinoco/software/
dl2002_orinoco_client_r72_macos.html

but the setup utility can't find the card, nor does the 'wireless' LED
on the card light up.

I've tried zapping PRAM and resetting power manager, and going back to
8.6 with the stock CDs too.

I also tried the IOXperts generic wifi drivers (www.ioxperts.com) which
also didn't report seeing a card.

Lastly, I tried a NetGear 802.11b Wireless PC Card (MA 401), which also
wasn't recognized.

Anyone have any tips? Is there a way to 'reset' the PC Card slot? I
can't seem to find a way to make sure it's getting power.

Thanks,
-=Dennis=-

I also tried the IOXperts generic wifi drivers (www.ioxperts.com) which
also didn't report seeing a card.

Lastly, I tried a NetGear 802.11b Wireless PC Card (MA 401), which also
 wasn't recognized.

Anyone have any tips? Is there a way to 'reset' the PC Card slot? I
can't seem to find a way to make sure it's getting power.

If you use Apple System Profiler, is the card slot listed? Due to vibration
or a shock, it is possible that the card cage has been dislodged. I don't
know if the Lombard is similar to the Wallstreet, but when I replaced mine
on my previous Wallstreet, it had been a major undertaking, as I had to
completely disassemble the Wallstreet to get to the PC card cage...

bozotic /boh-zoh'tik/ or /boh-zo'tik/ adj.: [from the name of a TV clown
even more losing than Ronald McDonald] Resembling or having the quality of a
bozo; that is, clownish, ludicrously wrong, unintentionally humorous.
Compare wonky, demented. Note that the noun `bozo' occurs in slang, but the
mainstream adjectival form would be `bozo-like' or (in New England)
`bozoish'.
