Re: Wallstreet-more confusion
Is one with a 12 screen really the exact same size overall as those with 13.3 and 14.1 screens, and even Lombards? The display have the same amount of pixels in each model on a smaller area, but the machines themselves are exactly as big as is the display house, so there's only more plastics around the 12. I had a 13 and upgraded it to 14 as I couldn't stand the size. The 12in is lower res - 832 x 624 rather than the 1024 x 768 of the 13 14. -- Best wishes Malcolm Cornelius - The Powerbook Fanatic http://www.pbfanatic.co.uk -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: iBook repair
Work done by a service provider is supposed to carry a 90 day warranty. I would definately take them up on the issues you've encountered. --- Jeff Hubatka [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Well, I got my iBook back this week, dropped it off at a DHL pickup location Friday evening and it was back here Wednesday. Flextronics was the service provider and they replaced a few things by looking at the parts list: Bottom case, mobo, hard drive, keyboard, and CD-ROM. I guess that brings it back to original condition. Except they KEPT my combo drive, which had been installed last year! Now all I have is this incredibly noisy LG CD-ROM in there, it sounds like an outboard motor. Oh, and Airport won't work more than 20 feet away from my DLink router. iBook screen went black
Hi all, Now I really, really hope I can post to this list. There has been a problem with blacklisting of my ISP, which they promised to work out, but it would take some time. So I have been waiting... Earlier today, I was sitting with my iBook 12 1.2 Ghz which some of you probably remember that I bought just a few months ago. It was brand new medio November. Suddenly the screen went black. First I thought I somehow had managed to turn off the light, but nope. It is almost as if something like a backlight has gone dead, if that makes sense. If I put it up against the light, I can see something. But you won`t believe what happened next. I connected my Pismo, to use that as a crisis solution... It has just been sitting there, on and connected to the AC. When I opened the book, only 1/3 of the screen displays, the rest is purple and fuzzy. Not possible to use it for anything, so obviously that too needs repair. I have no idea what happened to it while it was sitting here... So off I went, for my #2 crisis solution, a Toshiba Portege, which I hate to use, but I have it for when I need to write a lot while out and about in my work... So it is that one I am using now, after setting it up for net use, which I have never done on a PC before. I got some problems with IE, but fixed that by installing Firefox instead... LOL... Better that than having to fiddle with things on a PC But anyway... Do anybody have an idea about what might have happened to my iBook screen? Is there some problem with these that others have experienced as well? Luckily it is under warranty, and I also have Apple Care for it, so I guess I will be making some phone calls tomorrow. I put the papers in a really safe place, stupid me, and now I can`t find them, so I guess I will have my evening set out for myself, searching for them. I have copies on the computer, but with no screen I can`t access them... One great thing though, the PC also has a Wi-Fi card, and the Airport Express base works super, no problems setting it up at all, it recognized the network as it should and everything... Thanks a lot in advance for any input I almost panicked when it happened, I can`t live without my iBook Aase :) -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Only the obvious that the desktop will be absolutely useless anywhere other than at a desk. Sounds to me like one of those trades that will be fun for a few days and that you will deeply regret later on. Specifically, I've never known anyone to say that they wished their laptop was less portable. SV: iBook screen went black
Hi, This is the G4 iBook, 1.2 Ghz, 12 - new November 2004. Thanks a lot for your input, but I was probably not clear enough, so I don't think your answer applies to this problem. Let me clarify... It is just the _screen_ itself that goes black or very dark, not the machine that isn't powering up. It is on, the light on the screen is just out. The book is on, and works correctly I think, only the light on the screen does not work. I can see what is on the screen vaguely if I hold it up against the light, just enough to see the cursor so I can manage to turn it off, re-start or something like that. It is not enough to read anything or use the computer though. It is as if you adjust the light on the screen down all the way until it goes completely dark. The first thing I did, was adjusting it to max. brightness, so it is not anything simple as that... I get a feeling that it is a hardware problem, but it would of course be wonderful if it wasn't... After it happened, I restarted it two times, and it boots up normally as far as I can see, but the light is out... So as I understand it, it can't have anything to do with it going to sleep, the battery or anything like that. I am sure that if I had it hooked up to an external monitor, I would be fine using it. Only I don't have a screen and don't know about anybody having an extra one either. All lights are on, the battery works for around 4 hours if I use it on battery only. After all, it is just a few months old. Is there something like a backlight that gives the screen light so that you can see what is on it? Is there some connection in there that can break, come off or something like that? Any input is really appreciated!!! Thanks a lot! First one was a video card recall, the second was the beast just not turning on. A totally black screen could be almost anything. The easy ones are: - You simply ran out of battery. When the battery gets low enough the Mac will sleep and won't wake until you give it some juice. Usually, however, this scenario occurs after getting messages stating the battery is dying. - Try hooking the iBook up to an external monitor. See if it boots normally and you can use the Mac. The more difficult ones are: - May need to reset the PMU. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449 - Try starting it up with just the power cord w/ the battery removed. Any lights on the Mac at all (flashing sleep light)? Any light around the power cord connector (colored ring)? Any startup chime? Any extra info you can give about this will be helpful. --- Aase Marit Waage [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi all, Now I really, really hope I can post to this list. One great thing though, the PC also has a Wi-Fi card, and the Airport Express base works super, no problems setting it up at all, it recognized the network as it should and
