Re: WMP won't play on 10.4

Upgrade install is the problem.
I've had some similar issues on my Powerbook with Tiger as well. I
did an Archive and Install and not an upgrade. I however have not
tried reinstalling Windows media yet.

Re: WMP won't play on 10.4

2005-05-15 Thread Andrew
Well, clean install is always a solution. Upgrades are always trouble,
always were, always will be. Doesn't matter if you are going from Windows
98 to Windows XP or from Panther to Tiger, taking a new OS and writing its
files directly on top of an older OS is just asking for trouble. Yeah, most
things will work, but it will always be a mess under the hood.

Sorry, that's just the way it is.

Are you saying that there is no solution other than an Archive
Install?

Regardless of what caused the problem, it makes no sense to me that
deleting the application and Preferences, followed by a reinstall
would do the trick. However, I'm not the only one reporting that this
doesn't fix it.

Every upgrade install is different, depending on what is on the computer
before you upgrade. That is one reason why upgrades are so unpredictable

SV: WARNING and Bounces

2005-05-15 Thread Aase Marit Waage
Hi Pat,

I also had this problem when I first joined the list. Finally I could
not send to the list at all. I had to contact my ISP, seems that they
were blacklisted, I had no idea why. They finally got it figured out,
but it was totally impossible to mail the list administrator, at the
address that was provided on the bounce messages, because mails to that
address would also bounce. Finally my ISP got it figured out somehow,
but in my case it took weeks.

Re: WARNING and Bounces

2005-05-15 Thread Amber
In response to the query about the warning/bounce messages, you do
not need to reply to these. I have received numerous such messages
myself, have never replied (just deleted them) and have never
experienced any problems accessing the list as a result.

Unfortunately, there is nothing the list nannies are able to do about
it at this time that I am aware of. The only thing I can suggest is
to set up a filter in your mail program and have them go directly to
trash.

If you have any further questions about these bounce messages or have
any other list admin concerns, please feel free to contact me off-list.

iBook firmware fix

2005-05-15 Thread Dean
Does anyone on the list know how to adjust the following firmware hack
so my
newly over-clocked Dual USB iBook will show the correct processor speed
in OS 10.3.9?

 / select-dev
5efc680 clock-frequency get-my-property 2drop !
 /cpus/PowerPC,[EMAIL PROTECTED] select-dev
239ea700 clock-frequency get-my-property 2drop !
5efc680 bus-frequency get-my-property 2drop !
17bf1a0 timebase-frequency get-my-property 2drop !
I got this from the web page at:
http://norum.homeunix.net/~carl/mods/overclock/index.html
I set up my iBook to run at 600MHz with a 100MHz bus. It ran great
until I tried to
install a new OS then it would hang. I was also having problems with
the firewire port.
I had entered the open firmware hack above and both OS 10.2.8, and OS
9.2
registered the correct processor info.
Because of the instability I was encountering, I decided to set the CPU
speed back to 500MHz with
a 100MHz bus. This by the way is a very nice improvement over the 66MHz
bus!
Everything is working perfectly now but the CPU speed still shows
600MHz in the newly installed
OS 10.3.9, and shows the correct speed of 500MHz in OS 9.2 wile the bus
in OS 10 shows 100MHz.
Should I worry about the discrepancy?
Will it effect the way any of the programs operate?
I've had no ill effects in about 5 hours of use. In-fact I'm typing
this message on it at the moment.

Thanks
Dean
