pismo

2005-07-25 Thread victoria duggan

Hi All Quick Question

I have a pismo that is set up with air port card running 10.4.2 and
one that has the intel pro wireless card running system 9.2.2 what i
want to do is make both of them see the network printers i use via
wireless.

The pismo with 10.4.2 is fine no problems but the one running 9.2.2
has to print to a file on the other pismo's desktop then i have to
print from there. I know that changing the wireless card and putting
both pismos on 10.4.2 is the option but i have had to pay for the
drivers for the acrd via ioxperts when i was useing 9 and money is an
issue so i can not really afford to pay any more. is there a way that
i can make the 9 pismo see my printers cross platform,

TIA VICKI

Turn off Printer Sharing on the 10.4.2 Pismo, launch Classic (9),
turn on printer sharing in classic.
Set up printer on the OS 9 machine. You should now be able to print
from the OS 9 machine.

You can share printers in 9 or X but not between 9 and X.

calendar for syncing 2 or 3 schedules? not iCal...

2005-07-25 Thread Brian McEwen

Good to see the list back up. I assume queued messages got deleted,
'cos I do not see a big backlog coming through.

I have been asked what calendar options are working well under OS X,
to sync just 2 or 3 people (or more, but 2 or 3 is the immediate goal).

iCal is not wanted as it doesn't deal well (they say) with double-
booked time slots, which are common for this group. I've not played
with iCal at all, is this correct/ is there a workaround?

It's a campus group but they don't have Exchange server running
anywhere, else I'd suggest Outlook.

Anything else that could work well?

thanks,

Brian

Does anyone on this list have this scanner? Does it work with Mac
OS 10.3.9?

I don't have a problem with using it in OS 9.x but want to use it
with my Flat Panel iMac and my Powerbook. I download the OS 10
driver software from Canon's website and followed the instructions:

Double-click [Canon PI CS-U Installer] in the folder to start
installation.

After I do that I get a box that says Now finding install
locations. Wait This is followed by a box that is labeled Install
Location:: and it has 4 buttons at the bottom: Add Install
Location, Install Remove Install Location. and Quit The
first button and the last button are active, with the other two
grayed out. There are no more instructions.

So what do I put for the install location(s)?

On the disk image are folders labeled:

Into CMPrefs
Into Lib_CFMSupport
Into Plug-in
Into Pref_N065
Into Pref_N122
Into Users_Shared

While a search of my harddrive doesn't find any folders with those
names; I DO find a CFMSupport folder, several Plug-ins folders, and
some Shared folders, one of which is in the Users folder.

So should I add the following as install locations:
Users/Shared
Library/CFMSupport
Library/Plug-ins

And what do I do with the CMPrefs Pref_N122 items? The CMPrefs
folder has three files, only one of which seems to be for the N1220
and according to Get Info is an ICC Profile. The file in the
Pref_N122 is named n122u.dat and is called a Mac Wavelets WBIN
document.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a coworker that had the same problem with a 15 aluminum book,
last week; changing the channel that his base station used fixed it,
for some reason. He's pretty rural, no neighbors, and no new phones
or anything in his house that would cause interference.

Also IIRC the ti books are known for an antenna problem; perhaps hers
has jiggled and is no longer getting good reception. There are some
adjustments you can do yourself, but I'm not certain what they are
(just repositioning I think).

Well, that's hard to tell. Are you sure that the installer you use is a
native OS X installer, not something running under Classic? If it's a native
OS X installer, you should expect the installer to put all the relevant
pieces where they belong. I did install the drivers and extensions for the
CanoScan LiDE 80 scanner under Tiger and it installed fine and works fine.

Did you restart after the installation? I would imagine that there must be
some kind of background process that needs to run in order to catch the
button press on the scanner and launching the appropriate application.

the Orinoco drivers version 7.2?

Under OS 9 either will do.

2. Will this card only work in OS9, or are there drivers for OSX,

there are third party OS X drivers; Airport software won't work.

3. Is this the card that can be 'set to a higher enryption level'

several times?

Yes. You can upgrade it to 'Gold status that way, although getting it
in an iBook is a pain, an Airport Base station is easier.

4. Will this Orinoco card allow me to connect to an Airport base
station? (is there any difference in use for a Pismo between the
'graphite' and 'snow' base stations I see listed on the swap list?

Yes, 802.11b is 802.11b...the Silver card needs to use the 64n Bit
WEP key, not the 128 bit one.

5. If I have this card and buy an Airport Base station with the

connect to a dial in internet connection?

Thanks.

Nope, that's how I'm sending this right now, save I'm using a Airport

Can a WS recognize a DVD disk?

2005-07-25 Thread Gary Goldberg
I'd like to duplicate a DVD disk I made with my DVD-R/VCR player/recorder
on my WS but have only the internal CD-ROM drive and an external CD-R/W drive.

I have Toast Titanium 5, but so far nothing happens when I put a DVD
disk in the internal drive (I have some DVD-related extensions disabled,
such as the DVD decoder extension, but have the Apple CD/DVD extension
activated).

Hmmm, I'm not sure I understand, or maybe I'm missing something. You say you
made a DVD disk on your DVD-R/VCR player/recorder on your Wallstreet, but
you only have an internal CD-ROM drive and an external CD-R/W drive. You
lost or can't use your original DVD player/recorder?

If so, then it's not surprising that nothing happens when you put the disk
in any drive. You need a drive that can read DVD disks in order to duplicate
them. If you have only one drive, then you'll need to somehow make a disk
image and then burn that disk image onto a recordable DVD disk.

 http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/277

Tried download now link
(http://www.macupdate.com/download.php/277/Play-it-Cool-343.sit) and got a
connection error.

 http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/3480

Same thing here

Then after starting this reply I saw the file name in the link I posted.
Goggled that, tried to learn Italian, and eventually got an FTP link:

In case anyone else is looking for it. :)

I just got 7 hours of battery life out of my Powerbook!

I don't have a problem with using it in OS 9.x but want to use it
with my Flat Panel iMac and my Powerbook. I download the OS 10 driver
software from Canon's website and followed the instructions:

Double-click [Canon PI CS-U Installer] in the folder to start installation.

After I do that I get a box that says Now finding install locations.
Wait This is followed by a box that is labeled Install Location::
and it has 4 buttons at the bottom: Add Install Location, Install
Remove Install Location. and Quit The first button and the last
button are active, with the other two grayed out. There are no more
instructions.

The software install contains a good readme file. The software for
Cannon comes in two pieces. The first piece of software to install
is the CanoScan Toolbox, which is the supplied scanning application
and works with all the Cannon Scanners.. Then when you come back to
install the scanner plug that is specific to the scanner. Iit should
automatically find the Toolbox folder and install the needed
software there. Actually the installer installs a PhotoShop plug- in
and is looking for a place to put it and generally it will offer to
install into any folder that is named Plug- Ins.

Where do you get this software? All I have is the OS 8,6 - 9 .2.2
software (Toolbox 1.3.1) that came with the N1220U scanner. On
Canon's website, the only OS X software I can find for the N1220U is
what I downloaded? There are NO readme files with this software.
Should I try downloading the Toolbox Software listed under the LIDE
35 scanner?
