What laptop is it?
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi Folks, Can anyone identify this laptop I please? Its a G3 PowerBook, one that looks like a Pismo, but its not, its much thicker than a Pismo. It has a black keyboard, and its specs are 233MHz, 2Gb HD, 32Mb RAM, although I have upgraded it to 256Mb. I am guessing its a Lombard, but I just want to check. I need to know as I am looking for a few parts for it. I need the two rubber stoppers at the top of the inside of the screen, a new outer LCD case and a CD-ROM or DVD drive - so if anyone has any spare in the UK, let me know! Power on problem with Pismo.
Hi Folks, I have a Apple PowerBook G3 Pismo. It has been upgraded with a PowerLogix BlueChip G3 900MHz CPU and 1Gb RAM. When powered on, the system works fine and I don't have any issues with it, however, over the last few weeks it has developed a problem when being powered off. When powering it back on, I can hear the hard disk spin up, but the screen stays black and I don't get the Macintosh chimes. I have to pull the power and then try again. Occasionally will get four high pitch beeps coming from the speakers - I presume this is some sort of debug code. Eventually the system will power on and boot an the whole thing is fine. The main battery is totally shot, and I think the PRAM battery might be gone because the time is wrong when I start up - but this gets corrected straight away via NTP. Can anyone suggest what the problem could be? Do you think replacing the PRAM battery will fix this? This isn't a *major* problem as I generally use it as a desktop machine, but recently my girlfriend wanted to take it to university to do a presentation on, and I had to say no as I couldn't trust it to boot! -- Thanks, Andrew McCall [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... How much for Pismo G3/900MHz 1Gb RAM?
Hi Folks, The DVD/CDRW drive on my G3 Pismo laptop broke over the weekend, and after thinking about it I have decided that I don't actually *need* a laptop, and it might be better for me to get a Mac mini, rather than get the drive fixed. I was thinking of selling the G3 Pismo and put the funds towards the Mac Mini, but before I put the thing on eBay, I was wondering how much I should expect for it. The machine itself is in great condition, with no scratches on the screen or the case, it has a BlueChip G3/900MHz upgrade CPU, 1Gb RAM, AirPort. The only things that are up with it are the battery doesn't hold a charge anymore, and the DVD/CDRW drive is broken. It has its original box and all the original wires and adaptors, and it comes with a nice new laptop bag, and a 4Gb external USB hard disk. What sort of money should I be expecting for this? I am in the UK, if that makes a difference! Thanks in advance! -- Thanks, Andrew McCall [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Upgraded PowerBook G3 Pismo as OS X Server?
Hi Folks, I have a heavily upgraded PowerBook G3 Pismo and was hoping to use this as a server once I buy myself a new Mac mini :) The Pismo has a PowerLogix BlueChip G3 900MHz, 1Gb RAM and an AirPort Extreme card, the hard disk is the original 30Gb one. I was going to install MacOS X 10.3 Server on it. My question is related to heat... I used to use my laptop on a desk and the internal fan never came on even during the most processor intensive operations. Recently I have started using it on the sofa and on my bed, when its on the bed or sofa the fan does occasinally come on. When using it as a server, I was hoping to run it with the screen closed. Can anyone tell me if its possible to tell the Pismo laptop not to go to sleep when you close the screen in OS X? Does anyone know if there is going to be a heat problem running the upgraded hardware with the screen closed? I still haven't had my order, but Wegner Media seems to be an OK company from most of the responses on this list - albeit a little slow with deliveries, mainly due to only a small number of staff that work there. In addition to this since 9/11 overseas deliveries have been particularly slow. There is only one more thing I ask - I have tried to phone the company, and the number on their web site doesn't work for me (or the international operator) - the number I have been trying to dial from the UK is: 00 57 803 808 4362 I was just getting a dead tone from my mobile (which now allows overseas calls), and a pay phone. The int. operator also said that the number either didn't exist or their was a fault on the line/network. Can anyone verify that I am dialing the correct number from the UK? If possible, can anyone nearer, or in Columbia SC actually test the number for me? Update on Wegner Media.
Hi People, Once again I apologise for keeping a thread open on this company, but I feel I need to keep the list updated so I am not being seen as slurring the company. I have finally managed to speak to Dave at Wegner Media, as Bruce Johnson pointed out, I had been given the international dialing code for Columbia the country, not Columbia the city in SC. Once I got through to Dave, he even rang me back so that I wasn't paying for the call - which I thought was very nice of him! Dave informed me that the reason for the delay was due to the way the DVD/CDRW Combo drives are assembled. They order the drives from one company, the interface to the Pismo from another, and the drive bezel from another. They are currently waiting for an order of the drive bezels so hey can complete, then ship my order. He offered to ship the items they had in stock, and said he would send out the drive bezel when it does come in stock, however I would prefer to have a no unit, rather than a half complete unit, so instead he agreed to ship out to me the Pismo 1Gb RAM kit and replacement rubber feet (hopefully before the end of today), and then he will ship the DVD/CDRW drive when its finally complete. He also stated that they should have an automated emailing system that informs me of any delays in my order, and that it looks like its not working. Basically, I feel a better about dealing with the company now that I have spoken to them, and I will wait for the deliveries and chase the DVD/CDRW drive up towards the end of the month. I have the impression that if I had purchased goods in stock, my experience of Wegner Media would have been quick and without troubles, however a combination of goods being out of stock, and a broken mail system gave me reason for concern. I would like to thank people on this list for the help and advice given to bring this closer to a conclusion. Thanks, Andrew McCall. ** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. Anyone (esp. in the UK) purchased goods from Wegener Media??
Hi, I was looking for a replacement CDRW/DVD-ROM Drive, some more memory and some replacement rubber feet for a Pismo laptop I bought from eBay. After searching the web and reading recommendations on this list I found everything I wanted could be bought at http://www.wegenermedia.com/ On the 20th May I ordered the parts and paid for the correct delivery to the UK and paid straight away via PayPal. The money has been debited from my credit card, by PayPal and I can see that in my PayPal account that its gone to wegnermedia.com. I received receipts via email and I was happy with the order. About 2 weeks ago I was starting to wonder where my delivery had got to, so I tried to contact them. I emailed [EMAIL PROTECTED] a detailed description of my order asking for an update. By Tuesday the 10th June I hadn't had a reply, so I sent another email that day. I still haven't had a reply, I am without the items I ordered and paid for. Has anyone here, or in the UK had any dealings with wegenermedia.com? Can anyone comment if this is usual? I have posted to a few newsgroups asking the same question, and the general reply is that the guy is a one man shop, and although he takes his time, he usually comes through, but one month on tomorrow, no reply to my emails and no goods gets me very concerned about the situation :( Thanks in advance, Andrew McCall. ** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. Re: Anyone (esp. in the UK) purchased goods from WegenerMedia??

Secondly, I just did some research on this through my 9 months of email (yes 9 months, about 7000 emails) for just this list and you are not the first to complain about WegenerMedia. Do any of the emails say how the problems ended up being resolved? I agree with Kurt: No one I have found that has paid them via PayPal has been successfully trouble-free with Wegener. Personally I have not purchased from them before nor do I ever intend to but that's my opinion and personal choice. I think the best bet for me would be to print out my order confirmation, my PayPal receipt and a very clear letter stating my issues, I will then fax it to them, and post them the hard copy. Hopefully if I will get the goods (I *really* need these parts!!!), but failing that, hopefully I will get my money back - otherwise I will have to seek legal advice :( Thanks, Andrew. ** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. You obviously don't know me personally ;-), but I've been using PayPal since the day it came out, initially for auctions only, but since a few months, I use it to accept payment for a shareware I wrote and I must say that I didn't have a single problem so far. I have never had a problem with PayPal so far, its just PayPal and this company :) I am trying to ring him right now, but my mobile has international barring on! Pah!
