Re: 12 inch seems crippled

2004-02-11 Thread João Loureiro
Meg,

In my opinion, the problem is simple: your HD is dieing.
A few months ago a client of mine started to have slow logins and the
computer (same model) would take ages till it start up. The machine
went to Apple because of the warranty and got a new HD.

restart as opposed to an hour. Lots of spinning beach balls. If I have
Activity Monitor running, I see that lots of things keep showing up as

It seemed to run fine from the install disk so I don't think it's

I haven't run the hardware disk yet, will do that tonight.

Have you tried booting from a 9.x CD as well?
Indeed, a boot from the 9.1 CD was done. But the same behaviour happen.
I really did check all connections more than twice.
The drive was sent back for replacement.
Thanks anyway.
When I get the other (new) drive I will tell news if the installation

Re: Hard Drive Upgrade Problem

2004-01-08 Thread João Loureiro
Hello,

I have a similiar situation in a Lombard.
Bought a 30GB Hitachi drive to replace the 6GB original IBM.
When I start from 10.2 CD, I run Disk Utility to initialize the drive,
but the program doesn't see the drive.
No sight of it.

If I put the old one back, the machine boots normally and the drive is
recognizable.

Any ideias?

- João

I bought a 30 gig Hitachi/IBM 2.5 mm HD to replace my loud, IBM 10 gig

The 10 gig came out fairly easily ... the 30 gig went in fairly
easily but when I put everything back together and go to install
Panther on it, it doesn't show up in the Destination volume pane.
It's as quiet as a cloud. It's as like it's not even in the Pismo.

Panicking, I put the 10 gig back in and smile when it boots normally.

I've tried this several times now, trying to match the 30 gig
installation precisely with the successful 10 gig but so far, no
satisfaction.
Glenn,

It seems that the 30 gig drive needs to be initialized. Boot from
your Panther install CD and run Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
Initialize the drive. If you want to make this drive readable from OS
9 make sure to install the OS 9 drivers.

Re: Wallstreet intermittent problem

Justin here is the link to a possible solution

http://discussions.info.apple.com/WebX?[EMAIL PROTECTED]@.3bbabae0/0

Maybe this works:
Go into OS 9 and delete the monitor preference
reboot into jaguar and reset your monitor preferences.
lock the preference file (get info) and this will stop happening.

Yes, you have a point. Why not upgrade the other machine.
Probably I will have to do that. I was just wondering if I could print
within this way.

Joe,

I did. And I read. Still have a doubt.
The mac that have the Printer is the one with system 9. So it's the
PowerBook with OS X.2 that is searching for the printer. The Doc of
Apple Support didn't say anything about this scenario, did she?

Maybe I only can use the printer that is connect with the mac with 9.2
