Therein may be your problem. For some reason my Orinoco Gold Classic
Card is recognized as a WaveLan card in OS 9.1 on my Wallstreet.
But when I upgraded to 9.2.2, it was then recognized as an Airport
card. Even the desktop icon changed to that of an Airport card. Go
figure.

Another Kind of Dead Hard Drive

2005-02-13 Thread Jon Cunningham
All this talk of reviving dead hard drives inspired me
to make another attempt with my 60 gig FireWire
external, that quit on me a few months back.

Most of what was on it was backed up to CD's, but
there are few things that weren't. I would like to
find a way to recover them.

My drive has no problem spinning up, sounding like a
well-tuned jet turbine when it is running. When it's
time for it to kick in and start reading, however,
it just gives a few clicking noises and keeps on
spinning. The little green ready light LED does not
light up either.

I tried the freezer trick, and until it warmed up
again, it sounded like my old Ford pickup starting on
a below zero day. The clicks came, but it still
doesn't read, or show up on my desktop.

Does anyone have a home remedy for this?

Thanks,
Jon
