Re: Next Powerbook after Lombard?

2005-01-29 Thread Mary Russell
I have a lombard 333 running 10.3.7. Memory is 128 on the bottom and
256 on the top.
Top was bought at OWC. It runs fine with no problems. When trying to
install updates
to OS10, don't use the combos. That's the info I got from the apple
store. Instead
of 10.2.8 combo, do the 10.2.6 and then the 10.2.8. I had 10.2.8
installed on a 4g drive.
I replaced it with a 10g. No problems with either one.

Hi,
I have a Lombard thats driving me crazy. I really love it but will
probably
end up getting rid of it because I have struggled way to many hours
trying to
get OSX on it with no success. I upgraded the battery, bought two new
"certified mac" chips 256 and 128 from OWC, a new shell, a 10 gig
drive, etc. I was
hoping to keep it alive. I even bought a 2.5 external enclosure and
installed
10.3 (Panther) on it from another computer and reinstalled it into the
Lombard. It starts to startup in 10 but then I get a blue screen and
mouse is
frozen or a kernal panic. Needless to say no success. Someone
suggested 10.2 but I
don't have
a copy of that and getting tired of investing $ into it.

Is there away to upgrade the cards inside? And what would I get?
Or should I get rid of it - and what would be the next step up? Would
need
it to handle most graphic programs like adobe, macromedia, office etc
in the
OSX operating system?
I can't afford a brand new one right now, what would be a step up from
the
Lombard?

I really love my Lombard and would hate to see it go - wish I could
find a
way to keep it.
TIA for all your suggestions/answers.

Re: 1 printer, 1 Mac, 2 accounts

2005-01-29 Thread Mary Russell
Scott, 1.Have you repaired permissions? That can sometimes help. At
least it does for me.
2. Go to printer utility; highlight the printer, what does it say under
location?
3. Click on add at the top of the box. Another box should come up.
Does it say auto select at the
bottom of that box? If not, highlight your printer and click add at the
bottom.
4. Click utility at the top of the box, pick test print.
All this should be done while in the 2nd account. You may have to
repair permissions again
after these changes. If these don't work, I don't know what to tell you.
One other thing. You're using OS 10, but are you working in classic at
the time.
I have 2 different drivers for mine.

Re: 1 printer, 1 Mac, 2 accounts
Hi Mary,
After setting up the second account, I tried simply printing first, the printer name shows and is selectable in the Page Setup and Print dialog menus, but the print jobs just hang. Then I did go to the Printer Setup utility and followed everything the Mac OS Help had to offer, but the printer does not show up in any Printer Utility windows no matter how many times I refresh.

Okay, I just tried printing again, this time in the Print dialog window there is an exclamation point by the HP printer name. This brings up the Printer Utility program. The printer is there, so I don't know what else to do at this point.

When I send the print job, everything goes as normal, I get an blue & white spraling progress bar and then the solid blue progress bar and it looks like normal, yet part-way it just stops and says Jobs Stopped. When I Start Jobs it just repeats the same over again.

This is the exact same behavior in both accounts. I no longer can print from
the original account.
I am currently at a loss, so any ideas are appreciated. Thank you.

1 printer, 1 Mac, 2 accounts

Hello all,

I have an issue that is eluding me at the moment. I have just put a second account on my iMac, since my PB is down for upgrades at the moment. First time I have done this in OS X (10.3.6), pretty nifty with the cube spin eye candy. After setting up the second account, I tried to print a test doc in that account, however that account (#2) is not recognizing the connected printer. The printer is an OfficeJet G85xi All-in-One type. I have tried the online Mac OS help, yet have not found a solution. Do I need to install the driver in both accounts, ala Windows style? Or am I just missing a step somewhere?

I appreciate any advice or help with this. Thanks.

That will save the web page whole, also a folder with all the parts.

First off, will the Orinoco card (Proxim - brand new)
work as an actual airport card, or should I start
hunting for drivers?
Second, the Lombard has a 20GB drive and 512MB of RAM,
what would be the best OS for this machine? My plan
is to just put Panther on it, but am worried about it
being too slow. Should I stick to OS 9? It will
mainly be used for doing elementary school research
(web) and writing in Word. I have Office 2001 and
Office 2004, so can go either OS 9 or OS X on this.
Finally, any tips for making a Lombard speedier (or at
least less slow) under Panther? Settings for video or
other things, rather than actual hardware upgrades
would be appreciated. I'm not looking at making this
thing into a speed demon, just want adequate web
browsing and good application performance for writing
and very light graphics (clip art and jpegs in word
docs). Knowing kids, it will probably also be used
for web-based game play (she's addicted to Neopets).
I paid $350 for the Lombard including the CD drive and
two supposedly good batteries.

Wouldn't you just copy the disc to a folder, then put in the blank, tell
your application
that you want to make a disc of the cd copy in the folder, or drag and
drop the saved copy

Can someone point me towards a simple procedure or write-up about how
to copy CDs using a Mac like this one with an internal CD writer and
