Initialization failed

Another problem.
I have a backup Lombard (which is what the dead HD is in) but when I try to 
burn to CD in Toast, I 
keep getting initialization failed because the disk is locked. I've tried many 
blanks and they all do the 
same thing.

dead HD

My 60GB not very old HD started whirring this morning and, bottom line, the 
computer no longer 
recognizes it. TechTool doesn't see it, either. I've been trying everything, 
and once or twice it opened 
up on restart and I was able to drag some files to a Compact Flash card, but 
when I tried to burn files 
to CD, halfway through it started grinding and stopped burning.

Is there anything I can try? I had backed up crucial files a few days ago, but 
there's a lot of stuff on 
there I want.

Or can anyone recommend a retrieval company and how much does it cost?

VHS>DVD and TV tuner

Just when I was definitely sure I knew what I needed/wanted, I realized I didn't. I 
have a LombardG3 400 with a firewire2Go card and a 60GB HD. I do not have a DVD burner 
for the PB or in any other form yet.
What I would like, first of all, is to transfer VHS tapes to DVD. There are DVD 
recorders that can do it, as well as record TV shows. I also like the idea of 
recording TV shows into the PB, then burning them to CD (CVD?.)I almost went to 
BestBuy yesterday for a DVR machine with Tivo, but realized in time that it doesn't 
burn to DVD disc.
There's EyeTV, MyTV, lots of DVD recorders with inputs for VCR cables. Help!

Can someone guide me before I make a mistake I can't afford?

printing from USB (Lombard, OS 9.2.2) to serial (Canon

Not sure if this will help, but I needed to print from my Lombard to my Apple 
Laserwriter 4/600 (serial). I got an Asante unit on eBay and it works great through 
ethernet with a crossover cable. You have to make sure you get the correct Asante Talk 
(I'm not at home and can't tell you which it is). I got a wrong one first. I don't 
know about Canon printers, but if you have the driver and it's serial, I don't know 
why this wouldn't work. The ethernet cable goes from the Lombard to the Asante and a 
cable out of the Asante goes to the serial printer.

(OS9.2)and then to CD or DVD?

lombard display problems again

I didn't get any answers when I first put this up, so I'll try again.My Lombard 
display is going crazy when the top is at 90 degrees or more. In fact, it has to be 
tilted forward now in order for me to be able to read the screen. The display looks 
frazzled and sometimes as though it's rolling, the way televisions used to do when the 
hold needed to be adjusted.
I'm guessing it has to be the connecting cable, but maybe not. 
Any suggestions on what it might be and how to fix it?

taking apart Lombard revisited

What I have is a CD I bought from a Mac Users Group a couple of years ago, not an 
actual manual, but doesn't the user's manual have instructions for upgrading RAM, 
requiring removing the keyboard?

BTW, thanks for the help, everybody. I don't know why my instructions weren't for the 
Lombard. I successfully exchanged my 6GB HD for a 40GB. Unfortunately, I forgot to 
wipe the old drive before taking it out.

Someone wrote about a paste for the heat sink. I didn't have or use any. Is this a 
problem?

Lombard battery source?

I'm ready to install a larger hard drive in my Lombard 400. Any suggestions for 
sources? Is this a difficult install? I've done 3400s in the past, usually with 
success.

Orinoco

Anybody know anything about Orinoco wireless? I have zero experience with any 
wireless, but my neighbor has DSL with Orinoco software and wants me to buy a card 
from him and share the cost.
First, is this legal/ethical? Second, when I tried to install the software on my 
Lombard, it says it's missing an OT encrypt file.
